Today students took their 4th Notebook Check Quiz of the year. Afterward, students answered study guide questions for chapters 16-23 of The Giver and we went over the answers together (The Giver – Ch. 16-23 Study Guide). Finally, students participated in a review game to prepare them for Thursday’s unit test.

Today students read chapters 20-23 of The Giver. After reading chapter 23, students completed the “Is Everybody Equal?” activity (The Giver – Memory & Is Everybody Equal).

Today students completed a cause and effect chart for chapter 16 of The Giver (Chapter 16 Cause & Effect Chart). We went over the answers together before reading chapters 17-19.

Today students completed a Collins Type 1 in which theyย describedย one of their favorite memories from their childhood and what their life would be like if they didn’t have that memory.ย I called on several students to share, and afterward, we read chapters 15 and 16 of The Giver. After chapter 15, students answered study guide questions for chapters 11-15 of the novel, and we went over the answers together (The Giver – Ch. 11-15 Study Guide).

To all my classes:

Today students answered several questions about adolescence, and we used these answers to fill-in a Venn diagram comparing our world to Jonas’s world (Adolescence Activity). Afterward, students completed the “Create Your Own Life Schedule” activity (Create Your Own Life Schedule) and we discussed our answers together.

During the second half of class, students read chapter 8 of The Giver and completed the “A Different World” activity (The Giver – A Different World).

To all my classes:

Today students read chapters three and four of The Giver. After chapter three, students completed an activity in which they categorized their routine daily activities into things they 1) Have no control over, 2) Have some control over, and 3) Have complete control over. Afterward, we discussed these events and answered several questions that connected our findings back to the novel.

After reading chapter four, students began working on the “Visualizing Jonas’s World” activity (Visualizing Jonas’s World). Students will finish this activity in class tomorrow.
