I have enjoyed reading the paragraphs my students planned and wrote in class about themselves. Each student chose 3 details they felt were important for people to know. Â The process of writing, including the pre-writing, rough drafts, self-editing, peer editing, and publishing, was done in class. The first 4 steps were done in their journals and the publishing was done on college-ruled loose leaf paper provided by me.
Some students chose to bring their paragraphs home to polish before publishing for me to read.  I believe the bonding between caregiver and child when working on writing and projects is an important part of a 6th grader’s life.  But please,  let your child do the work necessary to lay the foundations for the remainder of his or her secondary education. I know as a parent and grandparent that can be hard.  It is difficult to know how much help is too much.
I will be out on Wednesday for professional development. Students will need their novel and note cards in class.
