YWCA will host Prom Palooza on Saturday, March 17 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the YWCA Gym. The goal is to provide free prom dresses to economically disadvantaged high school girls and it is hosted by My Sister’s Closet. Interested students will have to be registered by Ms. Allen and should see her by March 15. The address is:

The Alabama Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program at UAB is for minority students planning to enroll at UAB and major in science, technology, engineering, or math. Eligible students should also have a minimum 3.0 GPA / 20 ACT. It is a 10-week program that helps facilitate the transition of students from high school to UAB and engage students early on. Participants will get 6 credit hours of paid tuition, fees, and books and will also be provided campus housing. A $900 stipend is also granted at the conclusion of the 10-week program. Applications are due by April 20. Pick up a copy on the “Scholarship Wall” in the Guidance Office.

The ASA Foundation is offering scholarships to graduating seniors with a minimum 3.2 GPA and a record of community service. The Psi Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is offering scholarships in the amount of $1000. For the standard scholarship, applicants must be African-American females planning to enroll in an accredited 4-year college or university. For the HBCU scholarship, applicants can be African-American males or females planning to enroll at a Historically Black College or University. Both scholarships require that applicants attend school in Shelby County Alabama and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Your application must also include a transcript, essay, and 2 letters of recommendation. Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union Scholarship – CPFCU will be awarding (16) $1000 scholarships to graduating high school members planning to enroll in college. The deadline is April 16. Applications are available on the “scholarship wall” or you can visit www.coosapinesfcu.org
Beta Mu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. – will award (3) $2000 scholarships to deserving young men planning to enroll in college this fall. Min. GPA is 2.5 – Application deadline is Feb. 23. See Ms. Allen for access to an electronic copy of the application.

The UM Upward Bound program is excited to offer a new math & science program designed to strengthen the math and science skills of participating students through mentoring, tutoring, and exposure to STEM careers. Upward Bound is offering a one-time fall enrollment for low-income or first-generation college students in grades 9-12 with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicants should also have an interest in pursuing a STEM career path. See Ms. Allen for an application. The deadline is Nov. 1.
