GRC6 – Summer Reading Project

For your project, you will be required to create a book jacket using 2 sheets of printer paper. (I will demonstrate how to assemble it in class.) On your cover, you will include an original drawing or illustration for your chosen novel. You will also include a blurb summarizing the novel without giving away too much, a thoughtful paragraph explaining how your novel displayed the theme of “risk-taking”, three important quotes from the novel and who said them, and 3-5 sentences on why you would recommend the book. This project will be due on August 23, 2017. Do not plagiarize. This will be a gold grade. The rubric can be found on the handout given out during class. The specific guidelines are as follows:

Book Cover:

  • will be an illustration or drawing.
  • will represent the novel’s main, a pivotal scene, or an important character, etc.
  • is colorful and neat with obvious thought.
  • fills the entire book front.
  • includes the title and author’s name.

Inside Left Flap:

  • will have a 5-7 sentence blurb summarizing the novel without giving away the ending or important plot twists.

Inside Right Flap:

  • will have three important quotes from the novel and who said them.
  • will include 3-5 complete sentences discussing why you would recommend the novel to others.

Back Cover:

  • will have a thoughtful, 5 sentence minimum, paragraph explaining the novel’s connection to the theme of “risk-taking”.
  • will have your name, class period, teacher’s name, and date in MLA format.

*All text can be neatly written or typed.

6th Grade Summer Reading

Hello, incoming 6th graders! I am so excited to meet you all. Over the summer, you will be required to read a novel of your choice (text only, no pictures) that is at least 100 pages long. Make sure you read closely as you will have an assignment associated with this novel when school begins. This novel must be brought to class on the first day of school. Please email me if you have any questions. Have a great summer!
