Updates from Mr. Gunn

We had a great first full week at Chelsea Middle School! Students, teachers, and staff have all adjusted well getting back into the routine of school.
• We were able to raise over twelve thousand dollars this summer through our technology initiative that many of you contributed to during registration. This money has already been used to purchase 2 smart boards for new teachers and will also be used to purchase two additional classroom sets of Chromebooks for our English Language Arts teachers. Within a few months, all English Language Arts teachers will have a classroom set of Chromebooks.
• To learn more about Chromebooks and Google Classroom see the links below:

• INOW home portal allows you to monitor your child’s progress as teachers enter grades into their gradebook. This service is now free to all parents at Chelsea Middle School. Look for login information to come home with your student this Friday.
• Many of you may have heard your child talking about the school’s new tardy policy. We spent the first two weeks of school allowing students to get used to the layout of the building and finding their way to their classes. Due to the construction and observations of traffic flow in the building, we have added an additional minute to the travel time students have between classes.
• When a student is late to class, they must get a tardy pass to enter the classroom. The front office will keep up with tardies throughout each 9 week grading period. If a student accumulates 6 tardies between 2nd and 6th period in a 9 weeks grading period, they will be assigned an after school detention. If you have any questions or concerns about this system, please contact school administration, and we would be happy to talk to you about it.
• Our first home football game is this Thursday against Riverchase Middle School. The Chelsea Middle School Athletic Boosters are having an after school tailgate activity for the 6th graders from 3 to 5 PM. Please see attached flyer for more information; the cost will be $10.
• We have been very pleased with the attitude and behavior of our student body to this point. You as parents largely deserve the credit for that and we thank you for your support!
• As always if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or the school, and we will do our best to work with you.
