Plans for the week of 5/7-5/12

Posted by ddubose on May 5th, 2012

Great weekend.  Made the playoffs.  I am proud of everything that the girls have done.

This week, we have a slower week during the weekdays, but still a lot going on.  We have the boston butt pick up starting at 1:00 on Tuesday.  The delivery of the butts/hams to the school will be at 1:00.  If there are a few moms/dads that can be there to help put the butts into coolers, that would be great.  And speaking of coolers, we will also need everyone to either drop off their cooler by the dugout sometime during the day on Monday, or before 1:00 on Tuesday.  All butts/hams/sauces are coming on on Tuesday.  We did not sell as many as last time, so they can deliver them all on Tuesday.  Pickup is scheduled for 1:30-5:30 on Tuesday.  If you have a couple of extra coolers that we can use on Tuesday, that will be great also.  We have to have a place to store the meat as it comes in, so please get the coolers here in advance.

I have ordered a few extra, so if you need a couple more butts/hams, email Coach DuBose to see if there are any extras left.

Monday:  SHORT Practice – Done around 3:30.  Middle School players come until 4:00.

Tuesday:  Practice until 4:30.  Navy Shirts.  Also, Boston Butt/Ham pickups until 5:30.

Wednesday:  Practice until 4:30.  Red Shirts.

Thursday:  Practice until 4:00.

Friday:  Games at 9:30 and 12:30 at Liberty Park, unless a schedule change occurs.  We play Vestavia first.  Our second game will be against Gardendale or Northridge, depending on whether we are in the winner’s bracket or losers bracket.  Uniforms TBA.  We will leave for Liberty Park at 7:40 AM.  The players will be out of school all day.  We will obviously stay at the fields between games.

Saturday – If/When we advance to Saturday, the first game will be at 9:30 AM again.  The rest of the schedule is dependent on how the days goes.  Unifroms TBA.

GO EAGLES!!

Plans for the week of 4/29-5/5

Posted by ddubose on April 29th, 2012

Great Weekend for the Eagles.  Different players all stepping up at different times.  I am very proud of how we competed.    Let’s do that this week.  This is the big week.  We have #4 in 5A, Chelsea HS.  After that, we have our Area.  The toughest area in 6A, bar none.  Our team is ready for the challenge.  I believe it.  If we all pull together as players, coaches, and parents, I believe that we WILL get it done.  However, there cannot be a weak link in the chain.  Let’s do it.

Fundraiser – Flowers.  I still have 25 begonias that need a home.  I spent part of my afternoon watering them and putting them outside so that they will remain quality plants.  Please ask around and try to sell them.  If everyone would try to sell between 1 to 2 of them, they would be gone.  Please try and sell them.  I have mostly Pink, no pure red, but a few of the orange with red/pink on them.  Price is $17.

Fundraiser #2 – Boston Butts/Hams.  The details are below.  However, as a reminder, the deadline to order is short.  Butts are $30, Hams $40.  Each player sells 15.  The buyout for each one less than 15 is $10 per butt/ham.  Please sell these as well, as this is part of our original budget as discussed at the first parent meeting in September.  Orders are due by 8:00 AM on THIS THURSDAY MORNING, MAY 3rd.  The link to the forms are in the pages above and in the previous post.

Monday – Practice until 4:30 (ish)

Tuesday – Game at Chelsea HS at 4:00.  NOTE THE EARLY GAME TIME.  Leave time is listed as 2:10 from the High School.  As of tonight, I have 2 drivers, Reeve (4) and Langford(4), listed to drive 17 players.  I need drivers for 9 more.  Please go ahead and volunteer before Tuesday so that will be one less thing to be worried about on that day.  UNIFORM – Red Jersey, Navy Pants, Red Socks.

Wednesday – Practice until 4:30.

Thursday – AREA TOURNAMENT:  We are the #4 Seed, so we play host Pelham at 4:00 at Pelham High School.  We plan on leaving for Pelham HS 2:15.   I will get the girls out of class early to get ready for the game.  We will hit before we leave.  Uniforms will be TBA.  Definitely Navy pants, but the jersey will be the choice of the Seniors.  Ticket prices are set by the AHSAA at $6.00 per person, so please don’t blame the Pelham people.  They are only charging the amount that they are told to charge by the state.  Drivers listed as of today for Thursday:  Reeve(4).  Need rides for 13 more.

Friday – TBA – If we play at 4:00, we will follow a plan similar to Thursday.  If we play at 6:00, we will stay in class like a normal day, hit during 8th period, then go to Pelham around 4:15.  Same Admission price.  Drivers listed as of today for Friday:  Reeve(4), Kimble(4-5), Thomaston(4).  Need rides for 5-6 more.  Uniforms: TBA

Saturday – TBA – Loser’s bracket game is at 10:00 AM.  Players will arrive at 8:45 AM if we play that game.  Winner’s bracket game at 12:00, players will arrive at 10:45 AM if that is our first game.  The “if” game is scheduled for 2:00.  Uniform:  TBA

If weather becomes an issue, or even is predicted to become an issue, then we may have changes to the schedule.  Please be flexible if that happens.

Let’s have a great week!

Boston Butt and Ham Sale

Posted by ddubose on April 28th, 2012

I have just received our NEW dates for the Boston Butt Sale.  It is here NOW.  I need all orders in by Thursday Morning, May 3rd.  Morning meaning 8:00 AM at the latest.  I have to get her my order so she can place her order.  Delivery will be either May 8th or 9th.  I will assign dates, unless a certain date is specifically requested.  Everyone is asked to sell 15 each, or buyout for the $10 per butt/ham less than 15 sold.  This is a major part of our budget, so please sell.  We all know how good they are.  Just make sure to ask everyone around and let them know that these are the ones from Robertson’s Barbeque, the same place that we always get them.

A copy of the order form is here as well as listed in the pages portion of The DuBose Daily.

Remember, just because the season is over for some is no reason to not sell.  This fundraiser was listed as one of the major fundraisers to start the year.  Please sell as many as possible or get the buyout in to Coach DuBose as soon as possible.

Hoover Schedule

Posted by ddubose on April 26th, 2012

As of right now, we are scheduled to play at Hoover Central at 3:30 and 5:00 tomorrow.  I plan on leaving the school around 2:15 at the latest.  The players will need to get up the hill, get dressed and in the cars asap so that we an leave.  We are on field 5 vs Tuscaloosa County at 3:30 and Enterprise at 5:00.  A team has dropped out, so games are subject to change.  Hopefully, our game times will not be affected.  We need drivers for up to 17, and as of Thursday afternoon, we only have drivers for 8.

We are scheduled to play Sparkman Saturday morning at 8:30 AM on field 6.  I want the girls to arrive by 7:30 so that we can begin warm-ups at 7:45 AM.

After that it is Single Elimination starting at either 12:00 or 1:30  depending on our seed.  Our pool has 6 teams in it, so tie-breakers will be used to complete the seedings.  We may not know until 11:30 or so whether we play at 12:00 or 1:30, so we need to be prepared to stay at the park after our first game Saturday morning. Remember, no players are allowed to drive themselves or other players to the games.

I will update with changes if there are any.

Plans and Information for the week of 4/15-4/21

Posted by ddubose on April 15th, 2012

Flower Pickup Time/Day Change:  Flower Pickup has been moved to Monday instead of Tuesday.  The delivery will be there by 3:00, so anyone with Pre-orders can pick them up after Practice Monday.  We will put the flowers in the hitting facility for pick up.  If you have a small order and your daughter drives to school, then she may can bring them home.  Otherwise, someone will need to make arrangements to pick up by 6:00.  Contact Donna Gove if you have questions.  On that note, we have ordered up to 80 extra begonias and 20 ferns.  For those that did not sale, or forgot to turn in your orders, we can fill those orders through the extra one’s ordered.  We need to sell these to meet our needs.  Remember, Checks are made out to the OMHS Athletic Booster Club.  100% of this money benefits softball.

Physicals are Friday.  All players are supposed to be at Physical day.  I need the forms ASAP.  I asked them to turn them in by last Friday, but I only had a few turned in.  Please get the physical forms, filled out and signed on the front, with the travel permission form and check.  Players are supposed to be at OMHS around 8:00 AM on Friday morning to be ready to load the buses.  Our athletic trainers have put softball first in the day so we can get our physicals over with early and get ready for the rest of our day.  It makes it much easier for our trainers to make sure all 600+ athletic physicals are up to date if they ge them at the same time.  The players should let Coach DuBose know if and why you are unable to make it if you can’t attend.  I will send out any changes if they occur this week.  The Physicals will be good until the end of April 2013, so all tryouts, sports seasons, etc that occur before that time wil be covered by this physical.

I will post all gateworkers, scoreboard operators, and Varsity Drivers for the week on the blog by tomorrow afternoon.

Monday:  Practice until 5:00.  Plans may change due to the weather.  Be alert for a textblast from me and/or your daughters sending you any changes.  We will still deliver the flowers regardless of rain.

Tuesday:  JV PLAYS FIRST!!!  Game time is 4:30.  Uniform is Red Jersey, Gray Pants, and  red Socks.  JV will get dressed and get ready during 8th and start warm-ups at 3:20.  Varsity game is after the JV.  Red Jersey, Navy Pants, Red Socks.  Varsity is allowed to go home after school, but MUST be back at 4:30 to watch the beginning of the JV game.

Wednesday:  Practice until 5:30

Thursday:  Varsity AND JV at 5:00 at Hoover.  Yes, both games at 5:00.  We will need our drivers ready to leave at 3:30.  Uniforms will be gray jersey, Navy pants and socks.

Friday:  All Varsity and JV softball players will be at the school at 8:00 AM.  We will load the bus and go take our physicals immediately.  We should be done pretty quickly.  The JV girls will then be allowed to go home and be done.  The other girls can leave and be back in time to leave for Florence.  The plan is to leave for Florence at 10:30 AM.  We will stop in Cullman at Ruby Tuesdays for Lunch.  We will then go straight to the hotel to check-in.  We will leave to go to the fields by 2:30.  We play at 4:00 and 5:30.  The players and families will go out to eat and return to the hotel afterward.  More information as to exact times as Friday approaches.

Saturday:  Uniforms – Gray Jersey, Navy Pants/Socks.  Leave for Fields at 7:30 AM.  Last pool play game is at 9:00 AM.  If we seed #1 or #2 we play in Top Bracket, we see #3 or #4 in our pool, we will play out the consolation bracket.  We know what are goals are at this point.  Let’s try and continue the Florence tradition and play there all day/night.

Let’s have a great week!!

Plans for the week of 4/8-4/14

Posted by ddubose on April 7th, 2012

Don’t forget to sell the flowers.  The link to the order forms are at the top of the blog.  Send your daughters to school with the forms to ask their teachers as well.  If you have any questions about the flower fundraiser, please ask Mrs. Gove.  I’m asking everyone to sell as much a possible.  No buyout, no minimum, but no reason to not sell some.  We need to make money for OUR PROGRAM, and the only way to reach the needed amount is for each family to sell as much as possible.  Checks for the flowers should be made out to OMHS Athletic Boosters.

Please remember to pay any unpaid fees/buyouts as soon as possible.

Friday:  Varsity vs. Gardendale at 4:30, JV at 6:00.  Uniforms for both  Gray Jersey/navy pants/navy socks.  Varsity will begin warm-ups at 3:15.  JV will stay at school and begin warm-ups during the varsity game.  We will need gateworkers and scoreboard operators for both games, since these games were added late.

Thanks for everything that you are doing to help make the whole program be successful.
