I miss you all very much, but I hope that you are enjoying the break. See you in January!
We will be going on our second field trip Wednesday, December 12th. We will first go the the Birmingham Children’s Theatre to watch a performance of Peter Pan. Then we will visit the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Museum. It is sure to be an exciting day! Remember to dress your child in their field trip shirts.
With the all important Iron Bowl coming up, we thought it would be fun to gather some data! We each chose a team to cheer for and represented the total number of fans with a bar graph and a pictograph. Can we say roll tide???
We have been discussing Thanksgiving this week. We have learned about the first thanksgiving and thought about what we are thankful for. We prepared a piece of writing on what we are thankful for to share with our families and loved ones. These will be coming home in the next few days. We also decorated our classroom door with a thankful-tree, and we each got to name one thing that we are thankful for on a leaf. I am so happy to have 18 special little turkeys to be thankful for this year! Happy Thanksgiving!
“American Education Week—November 11-17, 2012—presents all Americans with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. The weeklong celebration features a special observance each day of the week.”
We celebrated American Education Week in second grade by comparing schools of the past to schools of the present. The students were quite amazed that students in the past only had one slate and a piece of chalk to do all of their school work on!
We also celebrated by creating an “American Education Rocks Apple Tree”. Each student was able to complete an apple for the tree by writing about their favorite teacher and school memory. We also invited parents to share their favorite school memory on their child’s apple.
As a Title 1 school, we are required to have at least one conference each semester. Our first semester is quickly coming to an end! I know that we all will have holiday activities on the brain soon, but if you have not had a conference yet, please contact me to schedule one. You can slip a note in your child’s green Daily Folder, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
We were so excited to have all of the grandparents visit our school and classroom! We hope that you enjoyed reading about yourselves in our first published writing pieces about grandparents. These will be on display in the hall through Open House. Thank you for taking time for your grandchildren. It was a special day for all of us!
I am so excited about our new school year! We are going to learn and grow so much. Yay Second Grade! 🙂
