December 12-16

Hello families!
I hope you are all well, warm and enjoying the holiday season! We are so excited here to be celebrating! We have been listing to holiday music, typing our family recipes and “warming” ourselves by the “fire.” (a video of a crackling fire while we work)
There is just something about this time of year that bring so much joy and fun to our room! Maybe it’s the colorful lights surrounding our room, maybe it’s the tree and all the ornaments, or maybe it’s the extra wide smile all the kiddos wear! All of the above make it one of my favorite times of year!
Attached is the newsletter for this week dec-12 and the study guide for the math assessment unit-5-summative-assessment-review on Wednesday if you would like a blank one to work on with your child. We completed this together in class today. Students had the opportunity to answer the questions and then we discussed them together and talked about strategies to solve the problems. Students should have taken notes on how to correctly solve the problems so that they would have the correct information to study.
Your invitation to our Christmas Party came home today. It will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15th at 1:00pm. Please rsvp on the invitation and let me know whether or not you will be able to send in your child’s family tradition recipe/food item. If you could Rsvp tonight and return that tomorrow then I will send out a “menu”/list of the food items we have so that we can see where we have a need as far as dishes are concerned.
Grade papers will come home tomorrow. I apologize for the day delay in getting them to you. I am trying to get all of the grades entered so that you will have an up-to-date progress report.
Multiplication fact drills began today. Your child should have a letter explaining those and the first drill in his/her folder. Attached is the letter also. multiplication-family-letter
Hope you all have a wonderful evening and week! Looking forward to seeing you at our Christmas Feast on Thursday! Don’t forget to wear your tacky attire 🙂

Information about word study for next week:
Word Study: VC/CV – Our word study pattern for this week is vc/cv. In this pattern, words are divided into syllables between the two consonants. The first vowel is short, as it is part of a closed syllable (vowel followed by a consonant). The rest of the vowels in the word may be short or long, depending on whether their syllable is closed or open. Your child will bring home his/her own individual word list today in their folder based on the results of their pretest.

Here is the newsletter for this week 🙂 Aug 22

August 15

Hope you all had a wonderful first weekend after our fabulous first week here at school. We had so much fun learning about our new classmates and our teacher – who surprisingly hates coffee and was in Mr. Hyde’s 5th grade class many years ago. Here is a picture of us from one of the first days in third grade. We did an activity with yarn where we shared a little about ourselves and showed how we are all connected and have to work together to make our class successful.
