Policies and Procedures

The following is a list of policies and procedures in each third grade class. After reading this list, please sign on the bottom line and return to your child’s teacher. Signing this means that you have read and understand the policies. Thank you so much for your cooperation! We appreciate you!

  • Facebook – If you or your child requests to be my “friend” on Facebook or follow me on social media, please do not be surprised or offended if I ignore your request. As an employee of Shelby County Schools, the system’s guidelines discourage me from “friending” students or parents on personal social media pages.
  • Classroom Volunteers – When visiting our school, please be sure to check in through the front office and obtain a visitor’s sticker. Classroom volunteers will be arranged and scheduled by individual classroom teachers. This is to protect instructional time.
  • Lunch Visitors – If you are planning to join your child for lunch, please meet us in the front office foyer near the entrance to the lunchroom. Family tables have been designated for lunch visitors and their children. It is school policy that buddies are not allowed to eat lunch with adult visitors and their children. You can begin eating lunch with your child starting September 3rd. It is also a county policy that outside food and drink not be allowed in the lunchroom. Please do not bring restaurant food into the cafeteria.
  • Conference Schedule –Please contact your child’s teacher in advance if you would like to schedule a conference.
  • Birthday Parties/Celebrations – Your child is recognized in morning announcements on his/her birthday. If you send in treats, please be mindful of allergies. Check with your child’s teacher for allergies for your class. If invitations are sent to the classroom, please be sure that each child receives one or all boys/ all girls.
  • Scheduled Parties – We will have a “Winter” party and an “End of the Year” celebration in third grade. More information will come home about those at later dates from our Room Mom or your child’s teacher.
  • Transportation Changes – Transportation changes must be submitted in writing to your child’s teacher. Make sure the note is dated and signed with an explanation of how your child is to go home that day.
  • Grading Criteria – Your child’s grading criteria in all content areas will consist of tests, projects, and/or class work. You will see a letter grade on your child’s report card. You have the ability to access iNow and view your child’s grades at home. Ask your teacher for login information.
  • Emails-Shelby County policy prohibits responses to parent emails during instructional time. Your child’s teacher will respond/email at his/her earliest convenience.
