Welcome to 7th & 8th Grade Social Studies!

I am honored to have the privilege of teaching at Oak Mountain Middle School! This is my fourth year at OMMS, however my tenth year teaching. I previously taught 6th – 11th grade history courses at a private school in Alabaster. Find out more in the About Mrs. Kennedy section.

This year, the 7th graders will take Civics 1st semester and Geography 2nd semester. They will learn about the United States government, economics, political parties, and much more. In Geography class, the students will analyze maps, the 5 themes of geography, physical features, research countries, world cultures, religions, traditions, etc. My goal is to make history engaging, fun, and relevant for all my students!

8th graders will study World History from the beginning of time to 1500.

Why do we learn Civics?

“A constitutional democracy is in serious trouble if its citizenry does not have a certain degree of education and civic virtue.”  Phillip E. Johnson

Why do we learn Geography?

“Geography is what helps us make sense of our world by showing the connections between people and places. Without geography, our young people are not ready to face the challenges of the increasingly interconnected and competitive world of the 21st century.”   John Fahey, National Geographic Society President and CEO

  1. Hi, I forget to write the words for the vocabulary and I couldn’t find any posts you put on for that. Could you maybe send the words?
