Welcome to MMS Yearbook and Newspaper!  I am so excited and blessed to have the opportunity to help create the school yearbook and newspaper with you this year.  The entire process takes teamwork, creativity, and dedication, so as we move through the year, let’s help each other stay organized so we can produce the best yearbook and newspaper!

Course Description:

The MMS Middle School Media Arts course is a course designed to create, publish and distribute the school’s yearbook and newspaper.  Students in this course are required to learn basic elements of design, layout and photography; become familiar with the yearbook website and various programs; create layouts, complete pages of the yearbook, and learn the appropriate terms and roles of a yearbook staff.  Outside class time is often required for members of the yearbook staff, and all staff members must recognize they represent MMS, the Yearbook Staff, and the Yearbook advisor.

Daily Required Materials:

  • Agenda
  • Notebook
  • Blue or Black Pen

Recommended Materials:

Digital Camera – NOT REQUIRED*

* Note – The school does have some digital cameras for staff use, but all staff must be responsible for handling, using, and turning in the camera on time without damage or loss.  Loss or damages may result in consequences.

Grading:

Yes, you will receive a grade in this class.  Although yearbook/newspaper is an elective, you will be responsible for completed assignments and possible assessments.  Grades will be based on the following criteria:

  • Daily Work – this can include completing layouts, writing articles, uploading pictures, and other daily assignments.
  • Homework – will mostly include attending school functions/events and taking photos for the yearbook and newspaper.  This is VERY important.
  • Participation – will consist of staying on task during class and lab times
