MHS News 11/22/2013

* FBLA TOY DRIVE: New toys may be dropped off in the in the toy box located in the foyer of the main building.
* MHS Bass Fishing Team meeting for students and parents has been changed to Monday, Nov. 25 @ 6 pm in the PAC. Please bring registration fees & captain fees. Anyone interested in joining please plan to attend.
* Next week begins our MHS Career Conference! We will have a 2 day conference instead of regular classes. Monday will focus on how to become a great employee, with fun interactive sessions and special speakers on various topics. Tuesday will be a half day Career Conference with a variety of speakers from different professions ranging from sculpt-ing to forensic science. Also, on Tuesday afternoon, there will be a special treat for all of our students before we all leave for the Thanksgiving holidays.
*Yummy Lix suckers will be sold my prom committee members during 7th period. Students will come to 7th period classes. Students should not come to purchase during the day.
*Peacemaker members will be collecting donations from MHS students and staff next Monday and Tuesday for their Fall Fundraiser.
* FTA Meeting 7th Period TODAY
* If you are reading for Battle of the Books, be sure to come by tomorrow to get books to read over the holidays. There may not be time to do it next week.

As you may already know, the AL State Dept. of Education has decided that you no longer have to pass the Alabama High School Graduation Exam in order to graduate. However, the test will still be offered for any senior who wishes to continue to test. Please let Ms. Allen know if you feel you need to continue to test.

* Jim Chomicz from Montevallo Presbyterian Church would like to thank Peacemakers Ariana Falkner, Cynthia Herrera and Kayla Snuggs for volunteering their time Saturday night at First Light, a women’s shelter in Birmingham. Peacemakers baked brownies and served dinner to 70 homeless and abused women.

Students: A representative from Auburn University Montgomery will be in the cafeteria this Thursday during the lunch waves to answer all of your questions. Stop by the table to hear what AUM has to offer.

All Students:
Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors: Your picture proofs and orders are due to Ms. Ham or Ms. Majors by November 12. Remember, you must turn in your proof even if you are not purchasing any pictures.
Soccer Try-Outs will begin next Tuesday. Girls will be on Tuesday November 12th and boys will be Wednesday the 13th and Thursday the 14th. All paperwork needs to completed and turned in to Mr. Galloway before you can try-out.

Students are reminded that you do not enter the building through the front entrance between class change. Doing so will subject you to disciplinary action. You must enter the side door. Also, any student caught opening the locked doors to allow students or visitors in will be subject to disciplinary action.
No student is allowed to park on Oak St. in front of the gym along the yellow curb. You will begin receiving parking tickets from the police dept.

A representative from Judson College will be on campus tomorrowduring 7th period in the library to meet with any interested
junior or senior girls. Any young ladies wanting to know more about Judson College should sign up in the Guidance
Office.
Sophomores:
The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program, better known as HOBY, is a national program that develops student leaders
over the course of a 3-day seminar. Montevallo High School can select one sophomore to represent us in this year’s HOBY State Leadership Seminar. Interested students should see Ms. Allen by tomorrow. The selection process will include an essay.

Dress Code Reminder:
1) Students are not allowed to wear leggings or jeggings without a skirt, dress, or pants/jeans over
them. Leggings or jeggings cannot be worn by themselves.
2) Sweatpants or other athletic pants are not allowed to be worn to school. Only during P.E. can students wear these type pants.
3) Caps, hats, or boggins are not to be worn inside at anytime during the day.
All SGA members need to meet in Mrs. Pastor’s room during 7th period today.
