MHS News 10/30/2015

*Student’s parking behind the restaurant located on the corner of Valley St., will not be able to park in that lot after next Friday Nov. 6. If you wish to park on campus you must purchase a permit for $20. Come by the main office for a packet. You will be subjected to have your auto towed by the new owner at your expense.
*This week is Red Ribbon Week and its theme “Respect Yourself.Be Drug Free.” Peer Helpers will be handing out red ribbons and will have an information table set up at lunch for students to make the pledge to be drug free and promote drug abuse awareness. Come by, pledge to be drug free, and get your red ribbon to spread the word!

*Attention Students and Teachers: Please join Peer Helpers @ Heardmont Park from 2:30-4:30 Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Out of Darkness Walk . See Ms. Allen or Mrs. Pastor if you are interested. You must register on-line.
*Attention 10th Grade Students: Shelby County College & Career Center permission forms are due back to Ms. Allen by Nov. 6 – No exceptions.
*Juniors and Seniors: You can now begin scheduling appointments with the Career Coach to plan your participation in the new Job Shadowing program. Appointment forms are located outside Ms. Allen’s office and should be given to her when completed. Remember, appointments will be held on Tuesdays between 12:30-3:00.
*Enter the Halloween Narrative Writing Contest before midnight October 31st! Points and prizes will be awarded.
*The narrative must contain “a kernel of truth,” characters, a bit of dialogue, and a plot that gives the reader chills! Double space your narrative and use Times New Roman 12 point font. Let your creativity flow! Submit your work via Google Classroom. See your English teacher for more details.
*National Art Honor Society members need to be at our club tent by 2:00pm Saturday. If you have any questions join the NAHS Remind account to message Mrs. Whitson.

*Students and Teachers: juniors and seniors will be called into the PAC 7th period to meet with the Shelby County Career Coach to get information on the new county-wide job shadowing program.
*Students who are involved with the Citizenship Leadership Group (this is the large group started by Dr. Hester last year) will be meeting in the PAC today during 7th period. This meeting is for all students who participated in the beginning of school year workshop on the first Saturday we were back as well as have been involved in previous Leader-ship Group meetings.

Congratulations to the MHS Lady Dawgs VB team who defeated Holy Family 3-0 last night. After losing 2 games to Oak Grove the ladies fought back and won the next 3 games to become our AREA CHAMPS!

They will play in the Super Regionals Friday afternoon.

LifeSouth would like to “Thank us ” for an amazing blood drive. We collected a total of 42 units. That’s 126 lives saved! LifeSouth held a raffle for free tickets to Warehouse31 compiled of all donators. We would like to congrat-ulate Brooke Douglas & Kaelyn Martin for winning the tickets. If these two will stop by the office for your ticket.

Do you need community service hours? The city is looking for volunteers for the upcoming Art Walk on October 31st. The event runs from 2-6, but they will have artists set up from probably 11:30-1:30 that may need help then. See Mrs. Glover for contact information.

POWER TO PLAY-Let the Voting Begin!

We are a finalist for the Power to Play grant that helps our athletic program.  In order for us to receive the grant, we need at least 250 votes so we need everyone’s help to make sure we reach that number.  Please take the time to follow the instructions to vote for MHS!

Congratulations! You have advanced to the next round of the Power To Play application process. You are one step closer to receiving $2,500 to support your athletic program through Power To Play.

Beginning today, your school will be featured among our finalists on the Power To Play website powertoplay.org. Voting will be open until Sunday, Nov. 15.

In order to cast a vote, your school’s supporters must complete a short online registration process. Once registered, supporters will be able to cast one vote per geographical division and school size category every day.

To be eligible to receive a grant, your application must receive at least 250 votes by the Nov. 15 deadline. Remember that your voters must be at least 13 years old.

Be sure to follow us on social media, and have your athletes, students and fans create their own posts in support of your grant application.
