MHS News 11/30/2017

“The Montevallo Youth Holiday Showcase will be next Monday, December 4 at 6:30pm in the PAC. This concert will feature the MMS & MHS Choir and Band programs. Admission is free. Doors will open at 6pm and will include a free art show featuring the work of MMS and MHS art students! Come kick off this joyous season with a fun evening of your favorite holiday and Christmas music! We hope to see you there!”

The Winter Formal is this Saturday. Be sure to get your Winter Formal tickets during lunch today .

Attention Sophomores: If you are scheduled to take Driver’s Ed next semester, please be reminded that you must secure your driver’s permit before you will be allowed to fully participate in the course as a student driver.

Students and Faculty: Be sure to stop by Lucky’s Foodland this Saturday, Dec. 2 between 10:00-2:00 to support our AP students. They will be participating in a “Bag’em Up” event to raise money for their AP exam fees.

Yearbooks are now on sale for $50.00. See Mrs. Fricke or any yearbook staff to purchase. Attention Sophomores? Do you desire to strengthen your leadership skills and take part in an amazing service opportunity? If so, see Ms. Allen by Monday about being the MHS representative at the HOBY State Leadership Seminar.

Attention Seniors: Remember that some colleges, including UAB, require that your ACT score be sent directly from ACT via your online accounts. Be sure to get this done for colleges that have a Dec. 1 scholarship deadline. (TOMORROW)

Juniors and Seniors: A representative from Alabama A&M University will be on campus Tuesday, Dec. 5 during senior GPS in the library. Interested students can sign up in the guidance office.

All students who have gotten paperwork for Students Institute need to have it turned in to Mrs. Pastor TOMORROW! There will be an important SGA meeting in the morning at 7:15 in Mrs. Pastor’s room. All SGA members are expected to attend.

Model UN Workday TOMORROW in Mrs. Pastor’s room from 3-4:30pm. All members expected to attend; if scheduling conflict see Mrs. Pastor before TOMORROW.

Completed Applications & Essays are due no later than Thursday, Nov 30, and Members will be announced Friday. First Workshop will be Friday, December 8th.

Attention GRC Seniors: Now is the time to begin considering taking advantage of UM College Ahead and registering for your tuition-free course if you haven’t already. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and acceptable ACT score. See Ms. Allen for questions on how to register.

Attention Students: ASVAB sign-up sheet is outside Ms. Allen’s office and deadline is today.

Attention AP Students: If you signed up indicating your interest in participating in a fundraiser to offset your AP exam fees, please check your Google emails today for a message from Ms. Allen. It will contain a sign-up sheet for a potential fundraising activity. Your intent must be indicated by Nov. 27.

Please come out to support the MHS Choral Program by eating at Full Moon in Alabaster for dinner tonight and tomorrow from 5-9 PM and for lunch on Sunday from 11 AM to 3 PM.

The ASVAB is a great career assessment tool for any student, but is required for students wishing to enter the military. The sign-up sheet is outside Ms. Allen’s office and the test date is Dec. 6. The deadline is TOMORROW and space is limited.

National Art Honor Society dues. Are due TODAY to Mrs. Whitson .

The first Model UN workday will be TOMORROW in Mrs Pastor’s room from 3pm – 4:30pm

The National Honor Society is sponsoring the Winter Formal December 2, 2017, at Parnell Memorial Library’s Community Room in Montevallo. It will be from 7:30-10:30. The cost is $15 person or $25 per couple. The money raised will go to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The theme this year is “Let It Glow.”

Students please check the Lost & Found box in the office. Any items not claimed by Wed. will be donated.

Scoliosis screening for all 9th graders will be given on Nov. 9. Screenings are conducted by Jeff State Nursing students.

There will be a MANDATORY meeting for Model UN Team members (anyone who is seriously interested) in Mrs. Pastor’s room during 4th and 5th period GPS. During 4th period, the meeting will be at the second half of the period during 9th grade GPS- 10th graders should bring lunch to meet during 9th grade GPS time. During 5th period, the meeting will be at the first half of the period during 12th grade GPS- 11th graders should bring lunch to meet during 12th grade GPS time.
