January 19 Announcements

1. Yearbooks – tomorrow is the last day to purchase to avoid missing out when books are delivered in May!

2. SGA Dodgeball Tournament – SGA reps are responsible to pick up the packets from Mrs. Polizos. Reps will form teams, collect payment, and return packet to Mrs. Polizos by next Tuesday.
**Students who attend the dodgeball tournament will have free admission to the boys’ basketball game that follows.** Cheer on your friends and then our Eagles as they play Bumpus!!

3. FBLA members – check the blog to vote for your charity of choice and sign up to work concessions at the dodgeball tournament!

4. Phase I – meets next Monday, 1/23, 3-4:15 p.m. Please remember to wear your shirt!

5. 8th grade cheerleaders – report to Ms. Hall’s room after school today.

* Students planning to attend sports physical day on Friday, January 27, must turn in their parent signed physical to Coach Tatum by next Monday, 1/23, regardless of a pre-screening.

We are hopeful that all students will have a pre-screening here during P.E. However, if missed here, the pre-screening will be included at when you have your physical. Please remember your $20 payment will be your “ticket” to get on the bus next Friday.

* Good luck to our basketball teams as they prepare to play Berry today. Girls are home, boys away.

* Good luck to our wrestlers as they journey to Prattville for their meet this evening.

* Golf sign-up is underway at D-10 for interested girls/boys, 7/8th grade. Try-outs will be in February and you must have a current physical on file to participate.

* Good luck to all our students participating in tomorrow’s Special Olympics bowling tournament!

January 18 Announcements

1. SGA’s annual charity dodgeball tournament is next Thursday, January 26, immediately after school. If interested in forming a team, please see a grade level SGA rep. The entry fee is $5 per team member and a parental permission form is also required. There’s a limit of 16 teams – first come, first to play! There will be no admission fee to attend and the concession stand will be open.

2. FBLA members should report for 7th period attendance and then C-5 for your meeting/yearbook photos.

3. While the weather may be warm now, cooler temps are forecast! FBLA sweatpant sales continue through January 23 – forms in front office or visit http://podcasts.shelbyed.k12.al.us/omms-fbla/sweatpants-sale/ for orders.

4. Battle of the Books – today is the last day to visit the media center and take the test.

6. SC Literary Magazine is looking for creative writers and illustrators – see your ELA teacher for details to submit short stories, poems, essays or art. The deadline is January 31.

7. 7th grade Math team will meet today with Mrs. Jackson.


* Congratulations to both grade level girls’ and boys’ basketball teams for their wins over Thompson!

* Additional pre-screenings for the January 27 sports physicals will be held in P.E. Students in 5th and 1st PE will be screened tomorrow. Interested students should bring their physical completed and signed by the parent. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR $20 PAYMENT UNTIL JANUARY 27.

* Attention 8th graders interested in OMHS football – the rising 9th grade player/parent meeting is February 9, 6:30 p.m. at the OMHS Performing Arts Center.

* 7/8th graders interested in golf should sign up at D-10 by January 31. Try-outs will be in February and you must have a current physical on file to participate.

January 17 Announcements

1. FBLA members are reminded to wear your shirts for tomorrow’s meeting and photo during 7th period. Please check the blog for details.
FBLA reminds you that sweatpants are still available for purchase – $20. You may order online or pick up a form from the front office.

2. 7/8th grade combined State Scholars Bowl team will practice today, 3-4:30 p.m. with Mr. Walker. The remaining team members will practice with Ms. Meadows in B-8.

3. Meetings tomorrow: Chess Club – 7a .m. in D-2, First Priority – 7:15 a.m. in the choral room, and 7th grade math team after school with Mrs. Jackson.

4. 8th grade Science Club members are reminded of your “bone chilling” meeting planned for January 30!

5. Any last minute yearbook purchases? Please bring to the front office ASAP!

January 13 Announcements

1. Several groups will have yearbook photos made at 7th period today. Eligible students should report to 7th period for attendance and then proceed as follows:

> JUNA – A-17
> DI – Media Center
> Robotics – Cafeteria

2. Students who enjoy creative writing and/or illustration are encouraged to put their imagination on paper for the SC Literary magazine. For details, please see your ELA teacher or Mrs. Cline. Submissions are due by January 31.

3. Please bring any yearbook payment to the front office.

4. FBLA sweatpant order forms can be picked up in the front office or downloaded from the FBLA website. The cost is $20 and January 24 is the order deadline.

5. Good luck to our Show Choirs who will perform tomorrow at Vestavia Hills High School!

January 12 Announcements

1. Eligible students are reminded the Battle of the Books reading test will be available in the library tomorrow from 7:15 a.m. – 3 p.m.

2. There is no school Monday, January 16, due to the M L King, Jr. holiday. This day is also recognized as a community service volunteer day….find a way to share your time and talents with someone in need!

3. FBLA is now selling sweatpants. The cost is $20 and the deadline to purchase is January 24. Please pick up an order form from the front office or the FBLA website. FBLA members are reminded you’ll meet Wednesday, January 18 during advisory for a meeting and yearbook photo. Remember to wear your club shirt if purchased.

4. The yearbook deadline is tomorrow! No exceptions! Be sure to order so you won’t be left out when books arrive in May. The cost is $40 if paid in full; $20 down and $20 later if laying-away.
The deadline to purchase a yearbook ad is now January 16. Ads must be placed online at www.balfour.com

January 10 Announcements

1. Wednesday, January 11 activities:

* Chess Club – open to all, 7 a.m. in D-2 – applications in office
* First Priority – open to all, 7:15 a.m. in choral room
* Characters with Character – assembly – we’ll be on a morning activity schedule tomorrow

2. Good luck to our Scholars Bowl teams as they compete against Bumpus here today after school!

3. 7th grade math team WILL NOT meet tomorrow.

4. The front office is currently selling graph grids for $2.25 each and agendas for $6.

5. There is no school next Monday due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

6. Honor Guard members are reminded of today’s yearbook photo. Please report for 7th period attendance and then the cafeteria by 2:35 p.m.

7. Yearbook orders will be due by this Friday to the front office or C-5. The cost is now $40. You may pay in full or use the $20 now, $20 later lay-away plan.

8. The Battle of the Books TEST will be in the library from 7:15 a.m. until 3 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 11 through Friday, Jan. 13. Please talk to Mrs. Hutchings in G6 if you signed up, but are not going to take the test. The top 6 scorers will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 17. The first practice will be Thursday, Jan. 19, from 3-4 p.m. in G-6.


* Good luck to our basketball teams as they play Hewitt! Girls away, boys home. Girls have permission to dismiss to the gym at 2:55 p.m. Coach Bouldin reminds GOOM squad members to bring your dollars for the half-court shots at today’s game….you might just win a new basketball!

* 7/8th grade boys interested in OMHS soccer should contact Coach DeMasters regarding try-outs which are scheduled in two parts: running and soccer skills. The running portion is next Monday, January 16, 9 a.m. and the soccer portion is 3:30-5 p.m. on Monday, 23. Contact is ddemasters@shelbyed.org
