October 26 Announcements

1. Friday deadlines: Spirit sock orders (forms in front office)
Photo Orders or Remake Requests – if absent on 9/21, no note needed; if requesting a second “take”, please return original proof with parent note.

2. 8th grade Science Club will meet Monday, October 31, 3-4:30 p.m. Members are reminded you must return your signed letter to Mr. Walker prior to the meeting to be eligible.

3. FBLA is now taking orders for their OM/GOOM sweatpants. You’ll find the order form in the front office or online http://podcasts.shelbyed.k12.al.us/omms-fbla/sweatpants-sale/

The cost is $20 and orders are due November 18.

4. Congratulations to all Scholars Bowl teams for their impressive wins over Pizitz yesterday!

5. Boo-grams will be sold again at lunch today – $1. Boo-grams will be delivered on Halloween during 7th period. Please try to know the 7th period teacher of the recipient if possible.

6. Fall gala/Haunted House facts:
Tickets go on sale at lunch tomorrow – gala = $7; Haunted House – $5 per trip
Remember to wear your Haunted House shirt for your fast pass to the front of the line
Haunted House entry times: 6th – 7 p.m., 7th – 8 p.m., 8th – 9 p.m.
The gala is for OMMS students who have exhibited appropriate school behavior – no outside friends or siblings who are not enrolled at OMMS
Money will be needed for concessions, Zaxby’s chicken, Halloween doughnuts, and the Trick or Treat Walk. Music, dancing, and games are free!
Pick up times are: 6th – 9 p.m., 7th – 9:30 p.m., 8th – 10 p.m. Parents are to use the gala traffic pattern found at http://podcasts.shelbyed.k12.al.us/omms/

First gala?  

Wondering how much it costs, where to drop-off, and where to pick-up?

See below.


Tickets are sold during lunch on Thursday and Friday just prior to the gala.  Tickets are $7.00 if purchased at lunch and $8.00 if purchased at the door on Friday evening.  Students should have additional funds for concessions and other food items available at the gala.  (Food items vary from gala to gala and could include:  pizza, chicken tenders, candy, chips, sodas, bottled water, shaved ice, doughnuts, etc.)

Students are encouraged to put their name on their ticket in case they lose it.  Also, they should remember not to leave their ticket in their locker when they leave school Friday afternoon.

(October gala only)  Trips through the haunted house are $5.00 each.  Those tickets/wristbands can be bought in advance at lunch too.

Drop off:

Students may begin arriving as early as 6:30 but encouraged to wait until closer to 7:00 if possible.  Students will enter the building at the front entrance of the school.  Please pull all the way forward when dropping off your student(s) to minimize back-up on Hwy 119.

Pick-up times for different grades:

9:30 for 7th grade

10:00 for 8th grade

October 24 Announcements

1. Boo-grams go on sale tomorrow at lunch – $1 to send a Halloween happy to a friend, sibling, or teacher!

2. Eagle Ambassadors will now meet 7:15 a.m. Thursday morning, not tomorrow. However, Ambassadors may bring items for the Halloween baskets by D-5 at their convenience.

3. Phase I members appreciate your generosity towards this year’s “Can you Can?” food drive to benefit Manna Ministries and OM Missions. Each agency will receive over 1,000 items each to serve Shelby County families in need. Enjoying a pizza party will be students in Mrs. Nobles’, Cline, and Gargiulo’s 7th periods.
Phase I members should report to Mrs. Nobles’ room immediately after school.

4. Haunted House t-shirts and 1 Haunted House fast pass will be delivered at 7th period today. Gala tickets ($7) and Haunted House wristbands ($5 per trip) will be sold at lunch on Thursday and Friday. The schedule for the Haunted House during Friday night’s gala is:
6th graders – 7 -8 p.m. 7th graders – 8 – 9 p.m. 8th graders – 9 – 10 p.m.
Please remember no masks or costumes are allowed. In addition to concessions, these food items will be sold: Domino’s Pizza – $2 per slice, Zaxby’s – $3 per order, Halloween Daylight Doughnuts – $2, and the Trick or Treat walk – 2 walks for a dollar!

5. The OMMS Mock Election is tomorrow…stay tuned for voting directions. Voting is a self expression of what you care about…be sure to “express” your opinion through your vote!

October 21 Announcements

1. 8TH grade Blue team will enjoy High Flight on Monday. Be sure to check the weather for appropriate clothing. Parents are to pick up promptly in the west lot at 5:30 p.m.

2. Many thanks to students and teachers who are supporting “Can you Can?” Donations greatly picked up yesterday! Grade level leaders today: 8th – Mr. Kennedy, 7th – Mrs. Gilmore, 6th – Mrs. Nobles. We’re now at 1,958 cans; 400+ from 2015!! Way to go Eagle spirit!

3. The forecast for the October 28 fall gala and Haunted House is nothing but fun! In addition to music, dancing, games, and the Haunted House ($5 per trip), there will be “trick or treat” walk – $1 per walk. Tickets will be sold at lunch next Thursday/Friday – $7; $8 if purchased at the door.

4. Please note the perimeter car rider line is scheduled for paving this weekend. The front parking lot is scheduled for Monday/Tuesday, Oct. 24/25. Students are strongly encouraged to ride the bus on these days to help avoid traffic situations that might occur on Hwy. 119 as we anticipate a delay in the car rider lines.

5. First Priority Events: Tailgate tonight at Heardmont for OMHS/Spain Park game – 5-6:45 p.m.
Sunday – 1:15 p.m. – Lee Branch for “I am Not Ashamed” movie…all are welcome!
Boo-grams – on sale during lunches next Tuesday – Thursday, $1 each!

1. Many thanks to our students who are positively responding to our “Can you Can?” campaign! Donations picked up yesterday and our grade leaders to date are:

8th – Richardson – 37 Tomorrow is the last day to contribute and we’ve just barely reached
7th – Gilmore – 127 1,000 items to be shared between OM Missions & Manna Ministries…
6th – Nobles – 196 Please consider at least one jar of peanut butter and/or jelly as these
Items are included with each bag of groceries provided by OM Missions…thank you!

2. The front office is overwhelmed with lost lunch bags! Please come and look for yours if lost!

3. If you ride bus 07-22 and lost an item of importance, please see Mrs. Rucker.

4. Attention 6 Blue PAL students….if you left your pillow and/or towel behind last Friday, please see Mrs. Rucker. Unclaimed items will be discarded tomorrow.

5. 8th graders are reminded to return Science Club letters/fee to Mr. Walker prior to the October 31 meeting.

6. First Priority invites you to a community tailgate event during the OMHS/Spain Park game tomorrow, 5-6:45 p.m. at Heardmont! Additionally, First Priority members are meeting Sunday to view the movie, “I am Not Ashamed”, 1:15 p.m. at Lee Branch…all are welcome!

7. Send a Halloween happy or BOO-gram to a friend, teacher, even your sister or brother! First Priority will be selling these message treats next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during lunch for just $1. BOO-grams will be delivered on October 31.


* Wrestling practice begins October 25 for 7/8th grade boys who have a physical on file. Athletes should plan to be dressed and ready by 3:15 p.m. in the upstairs area of the sports building. The parent/wrestler meeting is October 27, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

* OMHS Mt. Bike team is looking for interested riders….please see Mrs. Graham in C-5 for details about this fun opportunity!

October 19 Announcements

1. FBLA members should report to 7th period for attendance and then immediately to the G-10 lab for a meeting.

2. 7th grade Math team will meet from 3:10-4:30 p.m. today in C-4.

3. Only one-third of the student body has purchased a yearbook! As you know, these were not sold at registration this summer. Therefore, to order visit www.balfour.com to purchase. If technical difficulty, bring your $38 payment to the front office with name/grade on memo line. Orders are due by November 30. Extra copies, if available, will be sold for $40 in the spring.

4. Congratulations to all our Scholars Bowl teams for their mighty wins over Chelsea!

5. 6th grade Red team students going to PAL are reminded any medication needed must be brought in by a parent and it’s due Friday to Nurse Stone.

6. We hope you’re making plans to attend the fun and freaky fall gala and hilariously haunted house on Friday, October 28! Tickets will be sold October 27/28 during lunch – $7. In addition to our concession items, these products will be offered:
Zaxby’s chicken tenders – 3 piece, $3; YV’s Daylight Doughnuts – Halloween themed – $2 per doughnut; Pizza – $1 per slice, cheese/pepperoni
Haunted House tickets are $5 per trip…remember, no face paint or costumes. We’ll also have a cake walk….take your chance, trick or treat!

October 17 Announcements

1. The student/parent Washington, D.C. informational meeting is tonight, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria for interested 7th graders. The trip is planned for May 18-22, 2017.

2. Eagle Ambassadors helping tomorrow morning should report to the front office by 7:40 a.m. Please have your Halloween basket items ready for filling next Tuesday, 10/25, 7:15 a.m. in D-5.

3. Phase I members should stop by A-19 to sign up for the pick-up schedule.

4. Haunted House t-shirt orders are due to Mrs. Rucker by the end of 5th period today. Orders are being placed today and no late orders will be accepted.

5. Dance team members should see Mrs. Howton either today or tomorrow during 7th period.

6. Honor Guard members should plan to meet with Mr. Haynes this Thursday, 7:25 a.m. in B-17.

7. Photo proofs will be distributed today during 7th period. If you wish to have a remake on October 31, please submit the original proof with a written parental request. If you were absent on the original date, September 21, no parent note is needed.

October 14 Announcements

1. The 7th grade DC student/parent DC informational meeting is Monday, 10/17, 6 p.m. in our cafeteria.

2. Today is the last day to order a Haunted House t-shirt at lunch. The cost is $15.

3. Think ahead and don’t miss out on ordering a yearbook! Visit www.balfour.com Only a small percentage of students have placed online orders….write it in your agenda and be sure to inform parents as the deadline is now November 30!

4. Coach Lawrence of the Chess Club invites any student interested in learning to play to attend next Wednesday’s meeting to observe and become familiar with the game with no obligations…7 a.m. in D-2.

5. Flu vaccine injections will be administered to students who returned forms on Tuesday, October 18. 6 White students going to PAL will be the first to be called at 9:45 a.m.

6. Books for the YMCA book drive are being accepted until October 20. Please take to the media center.

7. The front office is prepared to donate 2 pairs of shoes, ten lunch bags/boxes and unclaimed clothing include PE clothes…act responsibly to come and look for your items!

1. 7TH graders interested in the DC trip next semester are reminded to attend the informational meeting on Monday, 10/17, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. At least one parent should also attend.

2. Halloween gala shirts continue to be sold at lunch – $15. Students who purchase a shirt will receive a “fast pass” to the front of the line at the Haunted House!

3. The Arts Council has a limited supply of 2016-17 Coupons for Classroom books available for purchase – $5 in the front office.

4. Show your Eagle spirit with a car decal! Three styles are available and the cost is $5.

5. “Can you can?” Of course you can! If each of our 1,116 students brought in at least one nonperishable food item, Manna Ministries and OM Missions could assist numerous families in need of groceries. This community service campaign runs October 21 and items should be delivered to your 7th period class.

6. NJHS members should report for 7th period attendance and then immediately to the cafeteria for your meeting. Make sure you bring a writing utensil!


* Baseball try-outs will be at OMHS and parents must provide transportation as there is no bus service.

* 7/8th grade boys interested in wrestling are reminded to sign up during P.E.

* Good luck to our football teams as they travel to Homewood today. Please note the game will be played at the Waldrop field located on Snow Drive. 7th grade kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by the 8th at 6:45 p.m.
