December 5 Announcements

We’re excited about today’s Toys for Tots assembly! While the assembly will be quite festive, students are expected to exhibit their best Eagle behavior!

2. Our first semester recognition drawing for major prizes will be during the holiday assembly on December 16. Please submit the white copy only to the front office by Thursday, Dec. 15. You must be present to win!
4. The sixth grade OM Ducks baseball team invites you to their Cooperstown fundraiser this Thursday evening, 5-9 p.m., at the Chipotle on 280. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will help send the team to the prestigious Baseball Hall of Fame!

5. 7th graders interested in the May, 2017 DC field trip should see Mrs. Kennedy regarding remaining slots. A $300 deposit is due by December 12.

6. Regarding Friday’s Christmas Gala:
> Tickets will be sold Thursday & Friday during lunch for $7; $8 at the door – please put your name on the ticket! Parents who are not volunteering, but plan to attend for the SGA lead-out must also buy a ticket – $5 each and they will also be sold at lunch or at the door. Extra money will be needed for special food items and the concession stand.

> The attire is dressy Sunday – dress pants/shirt for guys – coats & tie optional – no jeans; girls may wear dressy dresses/pants within dress code.

> Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; event begins at 7 p.m. The SGA lead-out is planned for 8 p.m.

> The gala traffic pattern (found online at the school’s website) will prevail. Carpooling is encouraged!

> Baked items (homemade or store purchased) are needed for the cake walk. Please avoid any item with nuts. Items may be delivered to the front office between 7 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Thursday/Friday. Please package items securely in half dozen/dozen batches…the kids like to “win big!” The cake walk is $1 per trip!

> Santa Sleigh photos will be available for $5 each.

November 30 Daily Announcements

1. Yearbook order/payment should be brought to the front office before 2 p.m. today. Today is the deadline for online orders – www.balfour.com

2. SOZO International, a nonprofit that supports Ugandan orphanages, and has a support group at OMHS, is requesting donations of personal toiletry items for children/teens. Please bring to the front office by December 7. Thank you!

3. The Christmas Gala/SGA Lead-out is Friday, December 9, 7 – 10 p.m. Tickets will be sold at lunch next week. The dress code for this event is “dressy Sunday.” More details will be forthcoming.

4. Congratulations to our stellar 7/8th Scholars Bowl teams for their wins over Liberty Park!

5. FBLA members should report for 7th period attendance and then C-5 for today’s meeting. FBLA also reminds you sweatpant orders are due today!

6. Winter guard members should report for 7th period attendance and then G-8 for today’s meeting.

7. The NS Library “game days” will be Fridays, December 2, 9, & 16 – 3:30 -5:45 p.m.

8. Please be reminded that morning car riders must remain within cars with parent(s) until 7 a.m. Student entry is allowed once an administrator opens the door and comes out for traffic supervision.

SPORTS NEWS

* Good luck to our girls’ basketball teams as they play Thompson today. 7th grade will play their last quarter from Monday beginning at 4:30 p.m. 8th grade game will follow. Please note there is no admission fee for today’s games. The concession stand will be open.

* Good luck to our wrestling team as they prepare to meet Hewitt Trussville. The meet begins at 6 p.m. at OMHS.

* If you ordered spirit wear from OM Boosters, please be prepared to pick it up this Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Additional t-shirts will be available for purchase. Please note today is the deadline to order items for the pre-holiday December 15 pick-up. For items, please visit:

November 29 Announcements

1. Good luck to our 7th & 8th grade Scholars Bowl teams as they compete at Liberty Park today. Team members have permission to dismiss to Meadows/Walker after checking in for 7th period attendance.

2. Meetings tomorrow: Chess Club – 7 a.m. in D-2, First Priority – 7:15 a.m. in the choral room, 7th grade Math team – 3-4:30 p.m. in C-4.

3. The yearbook deadline is tomorrow! You may order online at www.balfour.com or bring a check to the front office. If paying in full, the cost is $38; if using lay-away, the cost is $20 now, and $20 in the spring. Please check the list posted outside the cafeteria to see if you’ve purchased one. Please note that yearbooks were not offered for sale during summer registration! This is your only chance as we will not have extra books in May.

4. FBLA reminds you that tomorrow is the last day to purchase sweatpants. You’ll find an order form online or in the front office.

November 28 Announcements

1. Congratulations to our Robotics team who excelled at their competition over the break receiving these awards that propelled them to State competition in March, 2017:

Team 10740H (7th grade )- STEM Research Award
Team 10740G (7th grade) – Excellence Award (top award), Teamwork Challenge, & Robot Skills
Team 10740J (OMIS Team in Training) – Elementary Excellence (top award for an elementary team) and Design Award.

2. November 30 deadlines: FBLA Sweatpants – order online or pick up form in front office. There is no after school meeting this week, but members are encouraged to check the blog regarding agenda.

Yearbooks – www.balfour.com – complete payment or lay-away….if you prefer, checks may be presented to the front office. Remember, no additional books will be available in May…order yours today!

3. We’re still shy of our $20,000 goal for Toys for Tots. Let’s make one last effort prior to the November 30 deadline to make Christmas dreams become a reality for area children in need.

4. Save the Date! The Christmas gala is Friday, December 9. This event is for OMMS students only who have exhibited appropriate school behavior. The dress code for this particular holiday gala is dressy Sunday – dress pants/shirts for guys (ties/coat optional) and dressy Sunday outfits for females – no cocktail or evening wear. More details to come.

5. NJHS members should report for 7th period attendance and then the cafeteria for a meeting today.

November 18 Announcements

1. OMMS students are THE BEST! Many thanks to each of you for supporting Toys for Tots! After yesterday’s Iron Bowl game (congratulations to the Auburn Tigers) and Casual for a Cause, we’ve raised just over $16,000! This amount, while generous, is still shy of our $20,000 goal. Therefore, we’re going to extend our opportunity for donations until November 30.

So, when you’re passing the turkey this Thanksgiving, and sharing family blessings, please consider “passing the collection plate!” Please remember students are encouraged to earn their donations rather than just ask for money…with all the extra chores needed around the house at Thanksgiving, we’re sure you’ll get creative!

2. Please remember to clean out any food/beverage items from lockers prior to leaving this afternoon.

4. FBLA has extended their sweatpant sale until November 30. Order forms can be found online or in the front office.

5. Not sure if you purchased a yearbook? Check the list posted outside the cafeteria. The deadline is just days away…November 30. Here’s how to order:

November 17 Announcements

1. We’re excited about today’s TFT Iron Bowl game! Playing for Alabama will be: Wood, Hall, Webb, Gargiulo, D. Kennedy, Wortham, Pierce, Toole & Buckner! Cheering for Alabama will be Nalls, Higginbotham and Turpen! Playing for Auburn will be Ferguson, Hutchings, C. Burdett, Neeley, Bouldin, Cecil and Tatum. Cheering for Auburn will be Howton & Meadows! Several students will also be joining in…make sure you bring your money to first period. In addition to regular concession items, cookies will be sold – 3 for $1!

Tomorrow is our “Casual for a Cause” to benefit Toys for Tots! In order to be attired in sweatpants, (no joggers or windsuits or PE shorts), you must have your $2 donation. Otherwise, you should be dressed in typical school clothes.

3. Thanksgiving holidays are Monday – Friday, November 21-25. We hope all our families have a safe and memorable holiday experience.

4. “Murder in the Library” takes place tonight, 6:30 p.m. at the NS Library. Please note the library will be closed November 23-25 for Thanksgiving holidays.

November 14 Announcements

1. Phase I members are reminded to report to Mrs. Nobles’ room after dismissal for today’s meeting.

2. 8th grade Science Club will meet from 3-4:30 p.m. today. Parents should pick up at door #4.

3. If you misplaced a green tote bag, “Go Green” with an item from Social Studies, please see
Mrs. Rucker.

4. First Priority members are reminded you’ll meet from 3-4:15 p.m. this Thursday for your in-school service project.

5. It’s Anime night at the NS Library teen department, 6 p.m.; audience choice with snacks. Tomorrow is Tech Tuesday, 3-5 p.m.

6. “Wowzers,” as Mrs. Gingras says…but, it’s a negative “wowzers” today as we’ve only reached 15% of our Toys for Tots goal. While bake sales help fulfill this need, additional donations are appreciated…look for creative ways to receive a donation to benefit children in need.

November 9 Announcement

1. Meeting today after school: FBLA & 7th grade math team, 3-4:30 p.m.

2. Meeting tomorrow will be 8th grade Scholars Bowl team, 3-4:30 p.m.

3. Progress reports will be distributed during 7th period tomorrow.

4. There is no school Friday as we salute our veterans. The largest and longest running Veteran’s Day parade in the country is in Birmingham and begins at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The parade starts at 18th Street and 9th Avenue, north. This year’s parade will feature the famous Budweiser Clydesdales!

5. If you are a female who attended the fall choral concert and lost your purse, please see Mrs. Rucker. If you are a female who lost bracelets in the D-hall restroom, see Mrs. Rucker to claim.

6. Unclaimed clothing, pillows, pillowcase, belts, shoes, caps, costume, etc. from the front office are being donated after school tomorrow.
