March 27 Announcements

  1. 3rd period Symphonic Band students will meet in the bandroom at 8th period today.

 

  1. Spring photo orders will be due Tuesday, April 7.

 

  1. The ASPIRE testing schedule has been revised and will not begin until April 13. Please check with teachers for individual test dates. Students cannot check-in/out during testing, so plan ahead if making appointments.

 

  1. Please make sure there is no food or beverage left in a locker this afternoon.

 

  1. There is no DI practice today.

 

  1. Deputy Florence will NOT meet with students at 8th period today.

 

SPORTS NEWS:

 

  • 8th grade girls interested in OMHS volleyball should:

o    Sign-up on the list outside Coach Adams’ office.

o    Have a current physical on file prior to try-outs May 4-8. Try-outs are 3:30-6 p.m. in the main gym.

o    Physicals may be submitted to Coach Ferguson in B-18, or sent to Coach Connor, OMHS.

  • Shelby Starlets, a competitive baton twirling team, is hosting competition team tryout clinics weekly beginning Wednesday, April 8. The cost is $10 per night and a try-out packet will be available after the clinic. Times are:

Beginner/Intermediate – 5:30 6:30 p.m.   Junior – 6:30-7:30 p.m.     Senior – 7:30-8:30 p.m.

March 26 Announcements

 

  1. SGA reps and officers must pick up a Broomball permission form from one of the sponsors. These are due April 7.

 

  1. 8TH grade Science Club will meet Monday, April 13, 3-4:30 p.m. This will be the last meeting prior to the May 9 rafting trip.

 

  1. Peer helper applications are available in the front office, D-9, and C-16.

 

  1. FCCLA Easter cupcakes will be sold in halls during 8th period.  Please wait to be excused.

March 25 Announcement

  1. 6/7th graders should submit course selections today.

 

  1. 8th graders and at least one parent should plan to attend OMHS 101, an informational meeting about transitional topics such as attendance, dress code, academics, etc., on Monday, April 27, 6 p.m. in the OMHS Performing Arts Center. Tours of the high school will be available after the meeting.

 

  1. Students not planning to return to OMMS or transition to OMHS next year, should inform our registrar, Mrs. McGuire, as soon as possible.

 

  1. Students who have reserved a yearbook on layaway are reminded your final payment of $20 is due by the end of April.

 

  1. Current SGA reps & officers should see one of the sponsors for a permission form.

 

  1. OM Eagle sweatpants, in limited sizes, are still available for purchase for $15.

 

  1. DC bound students are reminded to sign up for roommates at B-18.

 

  1. 7th graders interested in being a 2015-16 Peer Helper should pick up an application from the front office, C-16, or D-9.

 

SPORTS NEWS:

 

  • Congratulations to our baseball and softball teams who won yesterday! Good luck to our softball team as they head to play Bumpus today. Team members may dismiss at 2:35 p.m.

 

Coach Noel & Jones send their thanks to the track team and parents for such a fantastic meet yesterday! Several personal bests were achieved at Heardmont!

March 24 Announcement

  1. 6TH & 7TH graders are reminded that 2015-16 course selection forms are due tomorrow.

 

  1. Peer Helper applications for current 7th graders are available in the front office, Ms. Turpen’s room (D9) and Mrs. McKinnon’s room (C16).  Completed applications are due no later than April 7th.  No applications will be accepted after this date regardless of reason.

 

  1. Thursday is Easter cupcake day! Bring your dollar to support FCCLA! Mrs. Gargiulo reminds students interested in 2015-16 FCCLA/Aide, that your application is due today.

 

  1. 7th graders going to DC can now sign-up for rooming at B-18.

 

  1. First Priority meets tomorrow, 7:20 a.m. in the choral room.

March 23 Announcement

  1. FCCLA will sell Easter cupcakes this Thursday. Please bring your dollars to help support the American Cancer Society and Shelby County Humane Society.

 

  1. FCCLA Aide applications are due to Mrs. Gargiulo by 3 p.m. tomorrow.

 

  1. Office Aide signed letters are due to Mrs. Rucker by 3 p.m. today.

 

  1. Tomorrow’s assembly is cancelled. We will be on a regular bell schedule, however, bells will be off again due to ACCESS testing.

 

  1. Wyldlife meets tonight, 7-8 p.m. at 3018 Sunny Meadows Lane (where Younglife meets). Please walk all the way down the driveway to the barn at the rear of the property.

 

  1. If “Thomas” is your first or last name and you’ve lost your lunchbox, please see Mrs. Rucker to claim.

 

  1. “Girls Can” is a one week camp sponsored by Alabama Power & the SC College & Career Center to introduce girls to the world of construction. The camp will be located at the Career Center in Columbiana, 8:30- a.m. – 3 p.m., June 15-19.  8th grade girls interested in attending should see Mrs. Butz for an application as soon as possible as space is limited and the deadline to register is April 30.

  1. Mrs. Shipman’s after school tutoring is cancelled for today.

  1. Students interested in improving reading skills or speed reading will find information about summer programs offered by the University of Alabama in the front office.

 

  1. Good luck to our math teams headed to the SC tournament on Monday. Participating team members should meet in C-16 by 7:45 a.m. Monday morning.

  1. Students interested in OM Idol auditions are reminded to sign up at Mr. Toole’s door. Auditions times are after school on March 24.

 

  1. All unclaimed items from the front office lost/found are being donated tomorrow. If you’ve lost a Nike bag with your OM XC clothes, please see Mrs. Rucker. If you left glasses behind in G-5, please see Mrs. Rucker.

 

  1. Deputy Florence will meet with his group tomorrow during advisory in C-2.

 

  1. DI meets tomorrow, 3-4 p.m. in the media center.

March 18 Announcement

  1. Students who have signed up for the Sports Physical Day on Friday are encouraged to look at the bus lists posted in the cafeteria. Eligible students will dismiss after first period on Friday, change clothes if necessary, and then report to the cafeteria for attendance and then board the appropriate bus. You’ll return in time to eat lunch and resume classes at 5th period.

 

  1. 7th grade Math team will meet today, 3-4:30 p.m. Please remember to bring your SC tournament form.

 

  1. The front office is overwhelmed again with lost clothing. Two bags with PE clothes and a pair of tennis shoes are among the items. Unclaimed items will be donated Friday.

 

  1. 6/7th graders are reminded you’ll return your course selections to your English teachers. If you misplace your form, please check your English teacher’s blog for another copy. Students interested in the all year aide positions and/or classes are reminded to see the appropriate sponsor for sign-up information. Today is the deadline to submit Publications’ packets to Mrs. Acton.

 

  1. The ACT Aspire test will be given over several dates in April. Please discuss this with your parents and plan accordingly when making appointments. Testing will typically be from 8:15-10 a.m. and you may not check-in/out during testing.  Please note the following cell phone/digital device policy: “If a device is in the possession of a student in the testing setting, testing for the student will cease, the device will be confiscated, the student will be dismissed from testing, and the student’s test will be invalidated. Additional disciplinary action may also be taken.”

 

  1. Battle of the Books’ members need to see Ms. Piper before 3 p.m. today.

March 16 Announcement

 

  1. The counselors will meet tomorrow with 7th graders regarding 2015-16 course selections during ELA classes.

 

  1. The North Shelby Library is hosting Minecraft at 3:30 p.m. today…bring your laptop if possible.

 

  1. Attention 7th graders:       If interested in being a media aide next year, please see Mrs. Howton in the library to sign up. Permission forms must be submitted by April 10.

 

  • Publications try-out packets are due March 18 to Mrs. Acton/G6 – no exceptions
  • Office aide permission letters are due March 20 to Mrs. Rucker – no exceptions
  • Broadcast packets will be delivered later today to those 6/7th graders who signed up
