November 30 Announcements

1. The deadline to reserve your space for a yearbook ad is Dec. 11th. For ad form and answers to frequently asked questions see the publications blog: December 11 is also the deadline for yearbook purchases ($38) or reserve on lay-away – ($20 now; $20 by April 29). Please check the posted list in cafeteria to verify pre-purchased books. The yearbook staff is still accepting student submitted photos. See publications blog for details on how to share!

2. The Christmas Gala is this Friday! Tickets will be sold at lunch Thursday/Friday for $7; $8 if purchased at door. Need to know:
> Dressy attire; coats/ties optional for boys – no jeans. Dresses must be within dress code.
> Music & dancing in gym; Cookie walk, ($1 per walk) Bingo, and games in cafeteria
> Sleigh photos – $5
> In addition to concessions, Icees ($3/$4) and Chick-fil-a nuggets ($3) will be sold
> Doors open at 6:30 p.m., event begins at 7 p.m., and pick up is 9 p.m. for 6th; 9:30 p.m. for 7th; and 10 p.m. for 8th. The typical gala pick-up traffic pattern will prevail. Carpooling encouraged.

3. Please make sure you have adequate funding in your cafeteria account for the remaining 15 days in this semester.

4. 8th grade Scholar’ Bowl will play Chelsea here tomorrow for ONE ROUND instead of the normal two. Parents should pick up at 3:45 p.m. instead of 4:30 p.m. The yearbook photo will be taken before the match tomorrow.

5. 6th grade only Robotics will meet today. Please check in for 7th period attendance before reporting to Mrs. Whitehead.

* Baseball players not playing basketball or wrestling will have workouts on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of this week immediately after school until 4:15 P.M. Players need to meet in Coach Burdett’s classroom, D6.
* Good luck to our basketball teams as they prepare to play Berry. Boys away, girls home. Girls and managers may dismiss at 2:50 p.m. to gym; 7th grade boys’ team to cafeteria at 2:50 p.m.
* Congratulations to our wrestlers for their wins over Thanksgiving..they are now 5-0 for the season!

November 20 Announcements

1. Our Eagle spirit is showing as we edge closer to our $20,000 TFT goal with a total of $16,700! We hope today’s contributions will let us soar! Many thanks to all who attend the volleyball game!

2. Remember to check the publications (yearbook) blog for information about ad purchases, order forms, yearbook purchases, and deadlines (Dec. 11th). The blog will also tell students how to submit photos for possible inclusion in the yearbook.
Students and teachers, remember to join the correct grade level “classroom” on Google Classroom to submit any photos you have from school related events. (Examples: selfies of you and your friends at the gala, a football or other game, on a field trip; anything school appropriate) Google classroom You’ll find the class code and details on the blog.

3. The Hour of Code is coming in December! OMMS will be participating school-wide. More details coming soon!

4. Items left from 6 Blue & White PAL field trips are being donated today.
* Our Eagle wrestlers invite you to witness non-stop action beginning at 5 p.m. today as they host their first-ever tournament and unveil a new mat! Two mats will be running, so there’s no break in the action! Your support will be appreciated to cheer our Eagles to victory!

* Good luck is wished to our sixth grade boys playing tomorrow in the JSYFL championship game! Game time is 7 p.m. at the former Berry High School location, 2700 Columbiana Road.

* Female students who would enjoy mountain biking are invited to meet Kim Cross, athlete and author of “What Stands in a Storm,” on Tuesday, December 1, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Greystone Y on 280. Ms. Storm, founder of “Magic City cycle Chix,” a women’s cycling group, will discuss the fun of riding regardless of experience…please note this is a “girls only” meeting.

* Students interested in lacrosse should register prior to November 30 to avoid a late fee…visit for details.

November 19 Announcements

1. Students attending today’s TFT volleyball game should listen carefully to dismissal instructions on afternoon announcements. Please note:
> You will leave personal belongings in the cafeteria.
> You will not be able to return to your locker after the game.
> You will pay your $2 admission while in the cafeteria and then be dismissed by tables to the gym.
> Let the fun begin!

2. Nominations for the Winter Queen/King/Princesses will close at 3 p.m. tomorrow. Check out the SGA blog for details and vote for students who have our Eagle spirit at heart!


* FCA will meet tomorrow morning, 7:15 a.m. in the sports building

* Good luck to our basketball teams as they prepare to play Liberty Park. Girls home, boys away. 7/8th grade girls’ team members and sixth grade managers should dismiss to the cafeteria immediately after dismissal for pre-game.

* Tennis try-outs will be December 2 for girls, December 3 for boys. Meet at Inverness Racquet Club, 4-6 p.m.

November 18 Announcements

Get ready to cheer loudly for your teachers tomorrow as they put forth their best efforts in the TFT faculty volleyball game! Please wear either Alabama, Auburn or Toys for Tots (red & green) spirit wear! The game will begin at 3:15 p.m. so have your $2 admission ready as you enter the gym! Pick up time is 4:15 p.m. If staying for the girls’ basketball game (included in admission), arrange a time with parents.

2. Congratulations to:
> Our Debate team whose oratory skills allowed them to win 3 out of 4 debates.
> All three Scholars Bowl teams won mightily over Helena!

3. Please remember nominations for the Winter King/Queen will be accepted until this Friday at 3 p.m. Nominees should be 8th graders who best represent our Eagle spirit. A princess will be named for 6/7th grades. Nominees must be present at the December 4 gala to receive their recognition.

4. The Sign Language Club meets tomorrow morning.

5. Peer Mediators should wear/bring their shirts for a yearbook photo tomorrow during 7th period.

> Tennis try-outs have been postponed: Girls, December 2; boys, December 3, both
4-6 p.m. at Inverness Racquet Club.

> Congratulations to our wrestlers as they won their inaugural match! The team won 48-36 over Bragg and 66-18 over Clay-Chalkville.

> Interested in Lacrosse? The Greater Birmingham Lacrosse Association has open registration for the spring 2016 season until November 30. Check out for details.

Share the joy of Christmas to help children in need…we’re only at 50% of our $20,000 Toys for Tots goal! Donations accepted through this Friday. 7th grade is leading the way followed by 8th, then 6th.

November 17 Announcements

1. We hope you’ve secured your plans to attend Thursday’s fun & fabulous faculty volleyball game as our teachers* show their Tide/Tiger spirit to play for TFT! Admission is $2 and allows you to stay for the girls’ basketball game to follow. Parents should pick up at 4:15 p.m. if just staying for the faculty game; 8th grade girls play at 4:30 p.m., followed by 7th. Be sure to wear your Toys for Tots shirt or favorite Alabama/Auburn spirit wear! Money for concessions will also be needed.

2. Good luck to our Debate team as they depart at 2:45 p.m. for competition at Samford!

3. Sixth grade band students are reminded you’ll practice from 3-4:30 p.m. today.

4. 7th grade Math team will practice tomorrow in C-4, 3-4:30 p.m. Please remember to bring your form/fee for the Vestavia tournament.

5. Our talented cafeteria staff is preparing Thanksgiving lunch tomorrow! Please enjoy traditional turkey, dressing and gravy, rolls, green beans, sweet potato casserole, chilled fruit and pumpkin spice cake. Corn dogs are also on the menu. Parents are welcome!

6. NJHS members are reminded to report for 7th period attendance today and then Ms. Grimes’ room for a meeting.

7. Mrs. Auer, Hudson, and Shipman’s after school groups will meet today.

8. Chess Club and First Priority will meet tomorrow morning.

9. The current sweatpant sale is ended. A second opportunity will occur next semester.

10. Good luck to our Scholars Bowl teams as they head to Helena. Please meet in the foyer at 2:45 p.m.

11. The Christmas/Winter gala is Friday, December 4. Only students who exhibit appropriate school behavior will be allowed to attend. Included in this festive event will be the crowning of the OMMS Winter King & Queen (8th graders), and princesses for 6th & 7th grades. Nominees can be submitted on the SGA blog (teacher will explain) by this Friday. Gala attendees will vote that night to see who best represents our OM Eagle spirit! The attire for this event is dressy Sunday.

> Congratulations to our 7th grade girls’ and 7th grade boys’ basketball teams for their wins over Pizitz!

November 16 Announcements

1. Sweatpant orders should be brought to the the office by the end of 5th period today.

2. 8th grade Science Club meets today 3-4:30 p.m. Parents will pick up at door #4.

3. Phase I meets today, 3-4:30 p.m. in Mrs. Nobles’ room.
4. Students are encouraged to submit candid, but school appropriate photos, for the yearbook. You may use your Google classroom and your school email to join a class upload. Go to to login to your school Gmail account. Then, go to your Google Classroom (you may have to search for it). Join the “class” appropriate for your grade. Choose your files and upload them. 5. Congratulations to: Our Robotics team for their first place awards and over Excellence award in the weekend competition. Our sixth grade team won in stem research, robot design and team work challenge. Our 8th grade team took 2nd place in the team work challenge!

We also congratulate our combined 7/8th grade Scholars Bowl team for their win over Mt. Brook!
* Congratulations to our OM community cheer squad for their fifth consecutive win at the UCA State competition. The squad will perform at halftime during the boys’ basketball game.
* Softball team players should check in for 7th period and then proceed to B-19 for a brief meeting. The player/parent meeting is Thursday, 7 a.m. in C-10.
* The baseball player/parent meeting is tonight, 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.
