  1. Scoliosis screening is this Wednesday during P.E. If your parent does not wish for you to be screened, a written note must be submitted by tomorrow to our nurse, Beth Stone.

September 19 Announcement

  1. Please be reminded that a request to ride home with a friend on another bus must be presented in writing by a parent to Mrs. Cruce 24 hours in advance! Parents are to include names of supervising parents, alternate bus number, the reason, and emergency telephone numbers.

September 18 Announcement

  1. Dance team members have permission to dismiss at 1:45 p.m. today for the pep rally. 8th grade cheer may dismiss at 1:50 p.m. and 7th cheer at 2 p.m.


  1. Please make sure parents know if you arrive to school at 7:50 a.m. or later, you must be accompanied into school by your parent for check-in.


  1. Tomorrow is gaming day at the North Shelby Library, 3:30-5:45 p.m. Please remember you must have a parent permission form on file to attend.

September 17Announcement

  1. Good luck to our 7th graders trying out for Scholars Bowl today with Mr. Wood in B-2.


Any 8th grader who did not try out for Scholars’ Bowl yesterday due to an absence, but would still like to, may come to Mr. Walker’s room at the BEGINNING of Advisory today or tomorrow. You will remain there the entire period.


  1. FBLA will host its first meeting today during 8th period in C-6. If you applied with Mrs. Graham, please report for 8th period attendance first and then C-6.


  1. We’re excited about tomorrow’s spirit week pep rally! Please remember we’ll be on an afternoon activity schedule. The dress for tomorrow’s “crazy fan” day is OM spirit wear or red, white, and blue!

7/8th grade boys are invited to try-out for OMHS soccer, October 20-24, 3:30-5 p.m. An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, September 25, 6 p.m. at the OMHS cafeteria.

September 16 Announcement

  1. Our spirit week pep rally is this Thursday and we will be on an afternoon activity schedule. Tomorrow’s dress up attire will be that of a “tacky tourist” as we get ready to “a-tack” the Bucs!


  1. Phase I applications are due tomorrow to Mrs. Nobles or Mr. Bullock.


  1. Students in “Battle of the Books” should stop by the media center as your books are in.


  1. Students who met with Mrs. Rucker during 8th period yesterday are reminded to bring their forms to the front office.

Sports News:


Students in grades 7 & 8 interested in in the OM Swim Team should sign up with Coach Tatum. In order to participate, you must have an updated physical on file and consent forms. Also, swimmers are required to have qualifying times set forth by AHSAA. This year there is a Sectional Swim Meet in order to qualify for the State Meet. 7/8th grade girls planning to try out for basketball, are reminded you must have your information sheet filled out by this Friday, September 19th. Physicals will be due to Coach Noel by October 3.

September 15 Announcement

  1. The spirit week celebration continues tomorrow with a “surfin’ safari” hunt to “bag the Bucs!” Camo gear, within dress code (no face paint or masks) will be the attire.

Sports News:


*              Congratulations to our XC team for their performance at the Spain Park Invitational. The boys placed 3rd; girls 6th. Individual recognition goes to Evie Bell who finished 3rd overall for girls. Many runners had a personal best making for a fantastic meet!


*              Congratulations to both 7th & 8th grade volleyball teams who finished 3rd at the weekend Simmons Tournament!


*              OM Girls Youth basketball registration is now open to girls in grades 2-6. Early registration continues through October 18. Please contact Coach McGowan for details –


*              McDonalds on Valleydale will donate 20% of sales between 5-8 p.m. tomorrow to the OMHS girls’ basketball program. Your support will be appreciated!


*              Congratulations to our 8th grade football team for the 14-0 win over Thompson. (Please recall the game was called and then cancelled due to weather, but the score was made official on Friday.)

September 12 Announcement

  1. Students will not be allowed to stay after school to attend the 4 p.m. football game. You must leave school as usual and return for the game. There is no admission charge today and the concession stands will not be open.


  1. “Soar” shirt orders/payment are due by 3 p.m. today to the front office.


  1. Morning car riders are reminded you must remain inside your parent’s car until the building opens at        7 a.m.

                Students who arrive after the 7:50 a.m. bell must be checked-in to school by an adult at the attendance window.


  1. Grade level Scholars Bowl try-outs are next week. Sixth graders should sign up with their math teacher, but 7/8th graders will just attend try-outs. 8th graders will meet on Tuesday, 3-3:45 p.m. with Mr. Walker; 7th graders with Mr. Wood on Tuesday, 3-4 p.m., and 6th graders with Mrs. Burdett on Tuesday, 3-4 p.m.


  1. 7/8th graders are reminded today is the deadline to join FBLA. Check in with Mrs. Graham, C-5, and check the FBLA blog.


  1. While Spirit Week is a fun experience, it is not an opportunity to abuse the dress code. Students may wear outfits suitable to recognize “the” day, but discretion is required. NO SWIM SUITS MAY BE WORN ON MONDAY as we prepare to “sink Simmons” and dress as “sea goers” – pirates, sailors, or tropical looking attire.

September 11 Announcement

  1. If you enjoy current events and academic challenges, plus are “quick to buzz,” please consider trying out for our Scholars Bowl teams. Try-outs will be as follows:

                8th – Tuesday, 9/16 – 3-3:45 p.m. in C-19 – Mr. Walker will sponsor

                7th – Wednesday, 9/17 – 3-3:45 p.m. in B-2 – Mr. Wood will sponsor

                6th – Sign up in your math class and be prepared to try-out next Tuesday, 9/16, 3-4 p.m.  

                Parents should pick up promptly in front of the school.

September 10 Announcement

  1. Please be reminded you must have a teacher’s pass to use the front office phone or ask for locker assistance. Always report to the teacher first so that you will not be marked absent, tardy, or skipping.


  1. Sixth graders and former Phase I members are invited to apply for Phase I, our community service organization sponsored by Mrs. Nobles and Mr. Bullock. If you enjoy helping others, have good leadership and people skills, pick up an application in the first office. Applications are due Wednesday, 9/17.


  1. Today is the deadline to purchase a grade level spirit shirt at lunch.


  1. Friday is the deadline to purchase a “Soar” shirt.


  1. 7/8th graders: Please check the recently updated FBLA blog for details about joining. The first meeting will be announced for a day next week at 8th period.



Sports News:

*              Good luck to our Lady Eagles volleyball teams as they head to Berry for games today!


*              Our Eagles football teams will play Thompson tomorrow at home – make your plans to attend!


*              Show your Eagle pride next week during Spirit Week as our football team prepared to play Simmons on 9/18. We’ll have dress-up days (within dress code) as follows:

Monday, 9/15 – “Make the Bucs walk the plank”     Wear your pirate gear, sailor or beach clothes

Tuesday, 9/16 -   “Surfin Safari” as we hunt down the Bucs – camo wear, but no face paint or masks

Wednesday, 9/17 – “Tacky Tourist” as we “attack” the Bucs wearing crazy clothes!

Thursday, 9/18 – Crazy OM Fan Day – wear your best OM spirit wear or red, white, and blue!


                We’ll also have a pep rally on Thursday!
