OMMS Announcements

1. 8TH graders attending tonight’s banquet are informed that there will not be a professional photographer available.

2. Please remember to submit the white copy only of your Recognition notices by next Tuesday. Our recognition prize drawing will be Thursday afternoon and students must be in attendance to win and claim prizes!

3. Students desiring to purchase a yearbook are advised to arrive by 7:15 a.m. on Monday to the C-east hall to wait in line. Your payment of $40 will be your hall pass – please have check/cash in an envelope with your name on the outside. Books will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

4. Grade level awards ceremonies and field day activities begin Monday with sixth grade! We anticipate the awards ceremony to begin at 8 a.m. Parents are to check in at the front office.
Students are reminded you may wear hats & sunglasses (appropriate for school) during field day. Free water will be available, but if you wish to purchase Kona Ice, the cost ranges from $2-$5.

5. OMHS is hosting a youth volleyball camp for grades K – 8, July 15-19, 8 a.m. – noon. The cost is $100. For details, please contact: Jbillings@shelbyed.k12.al.us

6. Science Club members going rafting must see Mr. Walker today during Advisory. You must report to 8th period first for attendance and get the appropriate pass.

8. Students eligible for Mrs. Holmes’ pizza party at 8th period are reminded you must check in first with your advisory teacher for attendance.

2. Yearbooks will be distributed to eligible students during P.E. tomorrow. Yearbooks will be available for purchase on Monday, May 20. If you desire to purchase a yearbook, here’s what to do:

> Arrive to C-hall east by 7:15 a.m.
> Have $40 check made payable to OMMS as hall pass (or cash equivalent in envelope with your name on it)
> Wait patiently in line ~ books will be sold in the order of the line

DISGRACING A STUDENT’S YEARBOOK WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISCIPLINARY ACTION! PLESAE ACT RESPONSIBLY AND RESPECT THE PROPERTY OF OTHERS!

3. Our bands invite you to their spring concerts tonight as follows:

6:30 pm – Beginner Band
7:00 pm – Concert/Symphonic Band
7:30 pm – Jazz Band
8:00 pm – Advanced Symphonic Band

Students should arrive 15-20 minutes prior to performance time. Check the blog for appropriate attire.

4. In anticipation of field day, please remember:

> You must come to school in dress code due to morning awards’ assembly; you will change into PE clothes prior to going to the field
> Bring sunscreen if needed; sunglasses also acceptable
> Drink plenty of fluids – complimentary water will be available; Kona Ice will be sold and ranges in price from $2 – $5
> Hats, appropriate for school, and worn correctly, can be worn while on the field

1. Coach McGaughy invites all students to FCA tomorrow morning, 7:15 a.m. in the sports building.

2. The Robotics team will have a year-end celebration tomorrow afternoon, 3-4:30 p.m. in Mr. Salvant’s room. The Robotics team also reminds you to visit Tropical Smoothie Café at Inverness Corners tomorrow between 4 – 8 p.m. 15% of profit during this time will be donated to their team!

3. Science Club members (and family members) who are going rafting Saturday MUST print off the waiver from the Science Club blog IMMEDIATELY and return it to Mr. Walker. Even if you have paid, you will NOT be allowed to raft without that form and your parent’s signature. There can be no refund either as your place on the trip has already been paid.

4. Cheerleaders are reminded of today’s practice until 4:30 p.m. Please change clothes and report to B-5 by 3:15 p.m.

5. The media center will be closed Thursday. Please remember today is the deadline to return books and pay fines in order to receive a yearbook on Friday.

6. Recent OMHS graduate (and former OMMS student), Anna Kathryn Davis will be signing copies of her new book, The Gifted, at the North Shelby Library on Monday, May 20, 6 p.m. The cost is $15. This book is one of the required OMHS summer reading selections for 9th – 12th graders and features five teenagers with superhuman powers who are the only ones standing between the human race and an Infestation!

7. Benchmarks continue tomorrow with Reading & Math for sixth graders.

THE MEDIA CENTER WILL BE CLOSED THURSDAY. STUDENTS WHO HAVE OUTSTANDING FINES OR LIBRARY BOOKS TO RETURN MUST DO SO TOMORORW. AS YOU HAVE BEEN INFORMED, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR YEARBOOK ON FRIDAY UNLESS YOUR OBLIGATION TO THE LIBRARY IS SATISFIED.

2. Yearbooks will be distributed during P.E. on Friday to eligible students. No books will be sold on Friday. A limited number of books will be available for sale beginning Monday, May 20, 7:20 a.m. at C-5. Your $40 check (preferred payment) will be your hall pass. Form a line against the wall as books will be sold first come, first served.

Please be reminded that damaging or writing/drawing something offensive in someone’s yearbook will mean disciplinary consequences as well as paying to buy a replacement book at the cost of $40. If you can’t write something nice, don’t write anything at all!

4. Cheerleaders are to change clothes and report to Mrs. Jones’ room, B-5 by 3:15 p.m. Practice will end at 4:30 p.m. today.

5. Our award winning Robotics team invites you to dine at Tropical Smoothie Café at Inverness Corners this Thursday. 15% of profits between 4 – 8 p.m. will be donated to their team!

6. Join in with FCCLA & Fuel Up to Play 60 at lunch today by challenging your taste buds with a taste test of the new strawberry oatmeal bar being introduced by our CNP!

7. Benchmark testing begins tomorrow with Social Studies and English/Language Arts for all grades.

8. UAB Red Mountain Writing Project is an exciting camp for creative writers, grades 5 – 12. A variety of topics will be discussed and you’ll find details at this website: writingcamp@uab.edu

1. Our CNP invites you to be a part of a taste test tomorrow during lunch! Try the featured strawberry oatmeal bars and then rate your taste!

2. 8th graders will be receiving OMHS FANS camp information during 8th period today. Please remember to take home and return by May 23 with your payment.

3. If you still have a library book hiding at home or in your locker, it’s time to dig it out! All books must be returned and fines paid in order to receive your yearbook on Friday and participate in field day on Monday!

4. A set of keys on a spiral bracelet were found on B-east Friday afternoon. Please see Mrs. Rucker to claim. Mrs. Rucker also has other sets of keys in addition to unclaimed lunch bags. All unclaimed items in lost/found will be donated or discarded on Friday, May 24.

5. Students who have medication in the health room are reminded to remind parents that it has to be picked up by an adult prior to the end of school.

6. Basketball try-outs begin today! Girls try-out here from 3 – 5 p.m. while boys report to OMHS as follows:
Rising 7th – 4-5:30 p.m. Rising 8th – 5 – 6:30 p.m.

3. It’s Gaming Day at the North Shelby Library – free with snacks from 3:30 – 5:45 p.m. The Library also invites the community to their Yard Sale tomorrow, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the summer reading program.

4. 8th graders are reminded that your banquet permission form and payment are due today.

4. Cross Country evaluations continue today and the parent meeting follows, 4:40 p.m. in the GYM (NOTE, NEW LOCATION)

5. First Priority will meet with 3rd, 6th & 7th PE classes next Monday to present their special “Hope in Motion” presentation that was cancelled in April due to inclement weather.

8. Publications News: Students who are CURRENTLY in Publications that did not see Ms. Walker yesterday must see her today during 7th period.
The 2013-14 Publications staff will meet tomorrow morning, 7:20 a.m. in Mrs. Acton’s room (G-6). Remember to bring ideas for next year’s theme. See Mrs. Acton TODAY if you cannot attend.

9. It’s Anime Night at the North Shelby Library – 6 p.m. Audience choice, costumes welcome and snacks will be provided!

OMHS CC evaluations continue today for current 8 graders. Dress out and board the bus to Heardmont. Practice ends at 5:00 P.M. and parents are to pick up at the park.

6. 6/7th graders trying out for either girls’ or boys’ basketball are reminded all forms are due by Friday. Please be reminded that boys’ try-outs are at OMHS May 13-17. Rising 7th graders will be on the court from 4-5:30 p.m. followed by rising 8th graders from 5-6:30 p.m.

7. All current publications students should stop by Ms. Walker’s room during 7th period today.

1. All library books are due today. Due to the need to inventory books, no books can be checked out.

2. Yearbooks will be distributed Friday, May 17, during P.E. to students who have pre-purchased a book. Books will not be distributed to students who either owe money for a yearbook or who have an outstanding library book/fee/fine.

A limited supply of yearbooks will be sold, first come, first served, on Monday, May 20, 7:20 a.m. in Mrs. Graham’s room, C-5. Your payment of $40 payable to OMMS will be your hall pass. (Checks are preferred with student’s name on check or envelope.)

Students are responsible for their yearbooks. Any student, who chooses to write/draw anything inappropriate in one’s yearbook, will be issued disciplinary consequences and will be responsible to pay for a replacement book.

3. First Priority will meet tomorrow, 7:20 a.m. in the choral room – all are welcome!

4. FCA will meet this Friday, 7:15-7:45 a.m. in the sports building. The guest speaker will be announced. All students, especially athletes, are welcome to attend.

5. OMMS Cross Country News: No evaluations today! Evaluations will continue tomorrow and Thursday. The parent meeting is Thursday 4:30 PM in the football bleachers.

OMHS Cross Country try-outs are today and tomorrow. Students attending tryouts need to change clothes
here and load the bus for Heardmont outside of the gym. Parents will pick up at 5 p.m. at Heardmont.

6. 8th graders are reminded your banquet form/fee is due this Friday to your Science teacher.

Testing continues tomorrow with Reading Part II. The complimentary grape juice will also be available before school in the cafeteria. Studies have shown that consistently drinking 100% grape juice can help improve your ability to learn and maintain lists as well as improve greater spatial memory. Tomorrow’s breakfast is Cinnamon Rolls, Cheese Sticks, Oatmeal, and Fruit.

2. Cross Country evaluations begin today for eligible 6/7th graders. Please change clothes after dismissal and report to the track by 3:15 p.m. Parents will pick up at 5 p.m. by the gym doors. There will be no evaluation tomorrow; evaluations resume Wednesday & Thursday. The athlete/parent meeting is Thursday, May 9, 4:30 p.m. at the football bleachers.

3. OMHS Cross Country evaluations are Tuesday & Wednesday at Heardmont. OMMS will provide a bus for 8th graders, however, parents will pick up at 5 p.m. Eligible students are to change clothes immediately after dismissal and await bus boarding instructions on concession hall.

5. Coach Noel reminds 6/7th grade girls trying out for basketball that physicals are due Friday. Coach Tatum reminds 6/7th grade boys trying out for basketball that all forms/physicals are also due by Friday. If you went to Physical Day in March, your physical should already be on file with Coach Tatum.
