April 27 Announcements

1. It’s just about show time for our Drama Club members! Please show your support today as friends, but also as audience as they present their first full production, “We Open Tomorrow Night?!” a “comedy of errors” script that focuses on the zaniness of an opening night! The fun begins at 5 p.m. in the gym. Entry will be through door 4 off the bus canopy. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for students.

2. Now hear this! Tomorrow is the deadline for:

> Eagle Ambassador applications – submit to office or D-5
> Yearbook purchase – submit a $40 payment to office or C-5
> Pay yearbook lay-away balance – submit to office or C-5

3. The front office is in receipt of over 200 gallons worth of lost clothing from the gym; a record! Unclaimed items are being donated next Monday.

4. Attention 8th grade NJHS members! You are reminded to meet with Mrs. Gingras today after checking in for 7th period attendance. Please note this meeting is only for current 8th graders and not those 7th graders who received previous information.

8th grade NJHS members who are unable to attend this afternoon’s meeting should promptly check the NJHS blog.

April 26 Announcements

1. 8TH graders – please be reminded of your “High School 101” meeting next Monday, May 1, 6 p.m. at the OMHS Performing Arts Center. Please bring your registration/FANS camp info to the front office ASAP.

2. SGA’s Relay for Life participation is now cancelled.

3. Eagle Ambassador – rising 6/7th graders interested in this position should pick up an application in the front office and return it by this Friday to the front office or D-5.

4. DC Parent Meeting – Tuesday, May 2, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Parents should bring a copy of the student’s health insurance card (front/back) and any medication.

5. Current NJHS members – please plan to meet with Mrs. Gingras tomorrow right after 7th period attendance check-in.

6. Our cheerleaders regret that the Gigi’s cupcake sale is now cancelled. However, you can “Do Good & Eat Good” at their Zaxby’s fundraiser on May 2 at the Lee Branch location. Please note a time change – 4 – 8 p.m. 10% of proceeds will be donated to their program and the girls will be on hand to welcome you from 5:30-8 p.m.!

April 25 Announcements

1. Deadline approaches! Friday is the last day to reserve a yearbook! Please take the time to check the list of previously purchased books posted in the cafeteria. Please bring your $40 payment in check or cash to Mrs. Rucker or Mrs. Graham. Please print your name on the check’s memo line.

2. Our Drama Club will welcome your support of their first “official” production, “We Open Tomorrow Night?” this Thursday, 5 p.m. in our gym. The cost is $4 for adults, $3 for students.

3. As warmer weather approaches, please remember the dress code is in effect for 23 more days!

4. FBLA will meet tomorrow, 3-4:15 p.m. to wrap up car wash sales. Please bring any remaining coupons/money to the meeting. If you can’t stay, be sure to return to Mrs. Graham before leaving tomorrow.

5. Mandatory meeting – DC bound students will meet tomorrow morning for roommate selections – 7:15 a.m. – girls to B-2, boys to B-1. The parent/student meeting is next Tuesday, 5/2, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Please bring a copy of the front/back of the health insurance card and any needed medication along with the appropriate form. Over the counter medication must be age appropriate and in an unopened, unexpired manufacturer’s container.

6. If you’re interested in being official host/hostesses for OMMS, please pick up an Eagle Ambassador form from the front office. Returned applications will be due to Mrs. Gilmore this Friday. Interviews will be after school on May 4.

7. SGA – Due to unforeseen circumstances, SGA will not be helping with Relay for Life this weekend.

April 24 Announcements

1. Yearbooks – please take the time to check the posted list in the cafeteria. If you do not see your name, you have not purchased a yearbook. To reserve a copy, please bring your $40 payment to Mrs. Rucker by Friday. No additional books will be sold after Friday until all yearbooks are distributed in May; then, it’s first come, first served!

2. Phase I – meets today, 3-4:30 p.m.

3. Be sure to stop by our art exhibit to admire the talents of our “senior” students!

4. Drama Club – meets today, 3-5 p.m., Tuesday & Wednesday – 5:30-7 p.m., and call time for Thursday is 3 p.m.

9. Eagle Ambassador Interviews for upcoming 7th and 8th graders will be Thursday, May 4th after school. Please pick up a blue form from the front office or D-5. Forms are due back by this Friday April 28.

A Letter from Mr. Haynes – Registration 2017-18

Re: Registration for 2017-2018 School Year

As we prepare for the 2017-18 school year, we are excited about continuing our quest for academic excellence for all students. It is only through the generosity of parents that we can maintain our reputation as a leader in the educational community.

We are pleased to provide parents the convenience of pre-paying some or all expenses related to the 2017-18 school year. Not only can this assist with your family’s back-to-school budget, but it also gives OMMS the chance to better budget finances. Please note this opportunity is just part of your child’s registration process. The dates for student registration are as follows:

Tuesday, July 18 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, July 20 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Monday, July 24 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

I am happy to share that the Shelby County Schools will be using a program called SchoolMint for completing registration forms for next school year. On Monday, along with progress reports, each student will be bringing home a letter with instructions on how you can begin completing these new online forms. Each student has been assigned a unique code that you will need when setting up your SchoolMint Account. Please remember to ask your son or daughter for the letter. If it becomes lost, please contact Suzanne McGuire (682-5210), the OMMS registrar.

The new online registration procedure will streamline the entire registration process. Since the online forms will automatically submit to the school, parents will only need to come to the school to confirm residency status for enrollment, pick up student schedules, purchase school supplies, and pay any remaining expenses.

We thank you in advance for providing a donation in addition to getting involved in one of the OMMS Parent-Teacher organizations. Annual contributions made to OMMS are used to pay for student services support, clerical salaries, copier rental/maintenance, basic office supplies used by the school and cafeteria staff, and building janitorial supplies (paper towels, hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies, etc.). Our parent volunteer organizations (Academic Partners, Arts Council & Athletic Boosters) help us effectively manage our fundraising dollars to meet the needs of as many students and teachers as possible.

Your contribution to OMMS enhances our daily operation and may be tax deductible. Several companies participate in the matching funds program, so please check with your employer to see if this option, which can provide additional benefits, is available.

We are excited about the new school year as we continue to seek ways to better meet the instructional and developmental needs of our students. Thank you for your continuous support of our schools.

April 20 Announcements

1. Our PE coaches remind you that no toys, finger figits or gadgets, cubes, etc., may be brought to the gym.

2. A lunch with a sports logo on the front is awaiting its owner in the front office. Numerous empty lunch bags are in lost/found.

3. The OMMS Drama Club invites you to the production, “We Open Tomorrow Night?!” on April 27, 5 p.m. in the gym. Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for students.
**Mrs. Bolt is in the process of clearing items from the gym stage. Students who have left items there should claim immediately. Students are reminded you are no longer able to store items on the stage.**

4. 7th graders who have not submitted their NJHS application must do so by 3 p.m. today.

5. 8th grade boys practicing 9th grade football, are informed that you must be on the bus canopy by 2:31 p.m. to meet the bus on practice days.

April 19 Announcements

1. Students who are DC bound should plan to meet Wednesday, April 26, 7:15 a.m. for the roommate selection meeting. Girls will meet in B-2 with Mrs. Kennedy/Alaimo; boys will meet in B-1 with Mr. Wortham/Bouldin. Students who do not attend will be placed appropriately by OMMS teachers.

2. Rising 9th graders are reminded to turn in your OMHS registration information. The parent/student “High School 101” meeting is planned for Monday, May 1, 6 p.m. in the high school Performing Arts Center. After the meeting, parents & students can tour the building. 3. Belmont photo orders are due to the front office by the end of 5th period today!

April 18 Announcements

1. FBLA – please check in quickly for 7th period attendance and then report to C-5 by 2:32 p.m. Members will also meet tomorrow after school, 3-4:15 p.m. Snacks will be available and you are welcome to bring a drink.

2. Phase I – meets next Monday, April 24, 3-4:30 p.m.

3. Dance team practice is suspended for the remainder of this month.

4. There’s still time to bring in $40 to be put on the yearbook wait list. A limited supply of books will be available, first reserved, first served in May.

5. Progress reports will be distributed during 7th period on Friday.

6. After school tutoring continues today, 3:05 – 4:05 p.m. in B-2.


* Good luck to our golf team today!

* Congratulations to our track team for their performance at the SC Championship! For their efforts, girls earned 2nd place, boys 4th. Team members may dismiss at the end of sixth hour to prepare for today’s meet.

* Congratulations to our OM Mt. Bike riders who held their 6th place State ranking after competing in the “Space Race” competition in Huntsville. Three of the riders placed in the top twenty!

April 14 Announcements

1. Today is the deadline for 8th grade Science Club members to turn in rafting money to Mr. Walker.

2. Choral field trip to Orlando – parent meeting is Monday, April 17, 6 p.m. in the choral room.

3. Dress Code – still prevails for the remaining 29 days of school! Females are reminded that shirts must be mid-thigh/fingertip length when worn over leggings. Girls are reminded that all undergarments must be completely covered.

1. School photos – Belmont has extended the order deadline to April 18. Please bring orders to the front office or online – www.belmontstudios.com/order

2. 8th grade Science Club members – rafting fee due tomorrow to Mr. Walker.

3. 7/8th grade Band – Orlando field trip parent meeting is tonight – 6:30 p.m. in the band room. Parents should bring any needed medication and appropriate documentation.

4. NS Library – hosting Manga/Comic Book Club today, 4 p.m. Teen Leadership Council meets at 6 p.m., and “Learn how to make Sushi” begins at 6:30 p.m. (reservation required).

* Rising 7/8th grade volleyball try-outs are today, 3-5:15 p.m.
