1. All unclaimed clothing from the gym and front office is being donated TOMORROW morning.

Girls, grades 8th – 10th, who are interested in architectural design, carpentry, welding or electrical careers, are invited to the “Girls Can” camp, June 9-13 at the Shelby County College & Career Center in Columbiana. Only 15 spaces are available and you must apply before April 30. If interested, see Mrs. Rucker for an application.

3. The Crochet Club will meet after school tomorrow with Mrs. Golliver.

4. 8th grade Science Club members are reminded your rafting fee is due to Mr. Walker ASAP!

April 21 Daily Announcement

1. Our Robotics team appreciates your support of Friday’s ice cream sale. You can look forward to another sale this Friday with watermelon as the flavor of the week!

Please see Coach McGaughy when you sign up if you or your parent did not attend last week’s football parent/player interest meeting. Players may begin submitting paperwork this week, but please hold spirit pack orders until further notice.

April 18 Daily Announcement

1. Our Robotics team will appreciate your support of today’s ice cream sale during 8th period. Please listen carefully for dismissal instructions as to when it’s appropriate to be excused to C-1. The cost is $2.

2. 8th grade Science Club members going rafting should submit their forms to Mr. Walker before 8th period today.

3. Athletic Boosters has attached “Birdies for Charity” information to the Progress Reports going home today. Please make sure you share this with your parents as it is meaningful to athletics’ programs.

4. Band/choral students going on next week’s field trip are reminded that any medication needed must be brought in by a parent by Monday. Medicines must be age appropriate, unopened and unexpired, and accompanied by the appropriate form.

5. Final yearbook payments for those on lay-away are now due to Mrs. Graham, C-5.

6. All clothing in PE & front office lost/found will be donated next week…please look for your items, especially lunch bags in the front!

7. Attention Rising 9th graders: The Virtual Locker Line for rising 9th graders will open on April 28th at 12:40 p.m. The link will be located on the OMHS Homepage. If you missed the presentation for rising 9th graders last night, a power point presentation can be found on the OMHS website under COUNSELING.

Girls interested in attending next Wednesday’s volleyball clinic, 5-7 p.m. ($50), should see Coach Ferguson in B-18. 2014-15 volleyball evaluations begin May 5.

Cross-country packets are available in the front office. Evaluations begin May 5.

April 17 Daily Announcements

1. Get ready for ice cream! Our Robotics team will be selling Bruister’s ice cream for $2 beginning tomorrow during advisory & after school to raise funds for national competition in DC…stay tuned for details.

2. 8th graders and parents are reminded of the OMHS 101 meeting tonight, 6:30 p.m. in the high school’s performing arts center.

3. As we look forward to the ASPIRE and other tests in late April, early May, please be reminded that the possession of a digital device (including, but not limited to cell phones, MP3 players, cameras, or other telecommunication devices capable of capturing or relaying information), is strictly prohibited during a secure test. Students who violate this policy will have the device confiscated, the test declared invalid, and be subject to disciplinary action.

4. Congratulations to our Battle of the Books team who was awarded 2nd place at the county competition. Individual recognition goes to Akhila Maruvada, the OMMS high scorer!

5. Current and outgoing 8th grade dancers should check in with their advisory teachers and meet in the gym to change at 2pm.

April 15 Daily Announcement

1. Current dance team members should change immediately after school and report to B-1.

2. 6th & 7th graders interested in SGA officer positions for next year, but who did not attend this morning’s meeting, should pick up information in D-4 or G-7.

3. There are a few “Pray for Gregory” shirts available. See Mrs. Rucker.

4. We will have a spring sports recognition assembly on Thursday afternoon.

5. 8th graders and their parents are reminded of the OMHS 101 meeting this Thursday, 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. The Freshman Camp will be Friday, July 25.

6. Today is the final day to make a donation at lunch for the American Cancer Society and Relay 4 Life. If no one is on the stage, please send to Mrs. Graham in C-5. Checks can be made payable to OMMS with Relay 4 Life in the subject line.

April 14 Daily Announcement

1. FBLA continues to accept donations during lunch today & tomorrow to help our Honor Garden bloom! For just $1, you can plant a flower to give honor to someone who has experienced cancer.

2. 8th grade Science Club meets today. Please remember if you can’t attend, but plan to go rafting, you must see Mr. Walker before leaving school.

3. All NJHS members should make plans to attend a meeting Thursday morning at 7:20 a.m. in Ms. Grimes’ room. Additionally, members who have not turned in a minimum of 10 community service hours by this afternoon will not be allowed to participate in this year’s tapping and induction.

4. Our All-star dancers will appreciate your support of their Mister Car Wash fundraiser. See Mrs. Rucker or any dance team member to purchase for $12.

5. If you have lost a pair of glasses within the last week, or at Expo, please see Mrs. Rucker.

6. The mandatory 2014-15 football team player/parent meetings for rising 7th/8th grade boys is tonight, 6 p.m. in the media center. Parents should bring the student’s birth certificate, health insurance card and proof of automobile insurance.

7. The choir & band spring field trip meeting is tonight – choir – 6:30 p.m. in choral room; band – 6:45 p.m. in band room. Parents should bring any medication/forms needed for this trip.

April 10 Daily Announcement

1. Eagle Ambassador applications are due tomorrow.

2. Family Feud captains will be receiving details regarding team competition times tomorrow evening. The fun begins at 7 p.m. and we have 14 teams vying for $300 in prize money!

3. 8th graders are reminded to mail panoramic photo orders by this Saturday. Order forms are available in the front office.

4. Good luck to our track team today. Team members may dismiss at 2:50 p.m. to change and board buses.

5. The 8th grade Red team meeting for today is postponed until 8th period tomorrow.

6. Rising 7/8th grade boys interested in playing football are reminded of Monday’s mandatory player/parent meeting, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Please bring your birth certificate, auto & health insurance cards.

7. Choir/band students/parents are reminded of your spring trip meeting is Monday, April 14. Choir meets at 6:30 p.m. in the choral room, and band will meet at 6:45 p.m. in the band room. Any medication needed for these trips must be brought in by the parent at this time. Medicines, even over the counter, must be age appropriate and in an unopened and unexpired container.

April 8 Daily Announcement

1. Students who put a yearbook on layaway are reminded your $20 balance is due prior to April 30.

2. The 8th grade panoramic photo will be taken tomorrow during 8th period. Please do your best to be present as this photo will only be taken one time.

3. Our All-star dancers are selling Mister Car Wash passes for $12 each. See any dance team member or Mrs. Rucker in the front office to purchase. The passes never expire and are valid for a full service car wash or credit towards a higher priced service.

4. OMHS Choir will present “Though the Decades,” a dessert Cabaret this Friday evening, 7:30 p.m. in the OMHS cafeteria. Tickets must be purchased in advance and the deadline is tomorrow. The cost is $10 per adult, $5 for students. Please contact Mr. Zauchin, mzauchin@shelbyed.k12.al.us if interested.

5. 8th graders and their parents will have a chance to tour OMHS and have questions answered when they attend “OMHS 101,” Thursday, April 17, 6:30 p.m.

6. 6/7th graders interested in SGA positions next year should plan to attend an informational meeting at 7:20 a.m. on April 15 in G-7.

7. 6/7th graders interested in being an Eagle Ambassador should pick up an application from the front office or B-10. Applications are due this Friday and interviews will be April 17.

April 7 Daily Announcement

1. Wyldlife meets tonight, 7:31-8:30 p.m. at 2913 (Jonseof’s). All are welcome!

2. Students enrolled in the A+ Recovery class are reminded it begins today in D-7 at 3:05 p.m, in Hutchings, Gullion, and Shipman’s classrooms.

3. The front office is no longer accepting Family Feud team applications.

4. Expo Excitement 2014 OMMS Students Only session in this Thursday. Please make sure you know you can stay before 3 p.m.! Tickets will be sold at lunch on Wednesday & Thursdays as follows: Thursday afternoon session only – $15; OMMS Students Only Mega Pass for unlimited rides, Thursday – Sunday = $35.

Sports News:

The player/parent football meeting planned for tomorrow evening has been changed to next Monday, April 14, 6 p.m. in the media center. Current 6/7th graders who plan to play football should plan to attend with at least one parent. Please bring checkbook, health & auto insurance cards.

Baseball practice will end at 5 p.m. Fins will not be needed.

Boys’ basketball try-outs for the 2014-15 team will be at OMHS on May 19, 20, & 22. 8th graders will be evaluated between 4:30-5:45 p.m. and 7th graders from 6-7:15 p.m.

Girls’ volleyball evaluations for the 2014-15 team will be held May 5-9. If you are a rising 7th grade girl, see Coach Steffkova in B-8 for information. Rising 8th graders will pick up a try-out packet from Coach Ferguson in B-18. Forms must be returned to the respective coach by April 30.

Girls’ basketball evaluations for the 2014-15 team will be May 12-14, 16 & 19th. Please pick up forms from Coach Noel during P.E.

1. And, the survey says….what is a popular excuse kids use for not doing their homework? If you think you know the answer, sign up your Family Feud team by 3 p.m. today to the front office!

2. Please be reminded that the Pacer test is being administered in PE. Students who have asthma should have inhalers available either or person or in the healthroom.

3. 7th grade Blue team students should dismiss to the media center after 8th period attendance today.

4. The 8th grade panoramic photo will be taken Wed., 4/9, during 8th period. There is no make-up opportunity, so please try to be in attendance.

5. OMHS Choir will present “Through the Decades,” a dessert cabaret next Friday, 7:30 p.m. in the OMHS cafeteria. Dessert selections provided by Edgar’s and Cheesecake Factory. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for students.
