April 24 Announcement

  1. 8TH grade Science Club members are reminded your rafting payment is due to the front office today.

 

  1. Rising 7th & 8th graders interested in running for an SGA officer position should see one of the sponsors (Polizos/G7, Wood/B2/ Higginbotham/A17) for an application.  All applications are due by Thursday, April 30th.

 

  1. Deputy Florence’s instructional class today is for female students only.  The topic will focus on how girls can protect themselves from predators. Please report to 8th period for attendance before going to C-2.

 

  1. NJHS forms are due today to Ms. Grimes in D-5.  If you don’t have your forms complete today, you have until Wednesday, April 29, however, late applications must include a written letter explain why the application is late. Late applications MUST BE HAND DELIVERED to a NJHS advisor. No exceptions.

 

  1. 8th graders are reminded banquet money/permission form is due by May 1.

 

  1. Eagle Ambassador applications are due by 3 p.m. to day to Mrs. Gilmore, B-10.

 

  1. FBLA will NOT meet today.

 

  1. The Washington, D.C. student/parent meeting is Monday, 4/27, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.Cross-Country:

     

    Rising 7th and 8th graders:           Evaluations/try-outs will be on May 6th, 7th, and 8th.  Required forms may be picked up in the front office OR in Coach Turner’s room, A-10. The required paperwork MUST be turned in by May 1st.

     

    Rising 9th graders:             Tryouts for the 2015 OMHS Cross Country team will be Monday, August 3rd at 6 p.m. at Veteran’s Park on Valleydale Road. Forms can be picked up and MUST be returned to Coach Turner, A-10, by Friday, May 15th.

     

    Wrestling:

     

    • Rising 9th grade boys interested in OMHS wrestling should contact Coach Burrough to receive summer program information – mburrough@shelbyed.k12.al.us
    • Rising 7/8th grade boys interested in attending the OMHS summer wrestling camp should also contact Coach Burrough. The camp is Monday – Thursday, June 7-30 – $150.

April 23 Announcement

 

  1. Front office aides are reminded to report for 8th period attendance and then meet Mrs. Rucker in the media center for a brief meeting.

 

  1. Coach DeMasters reminds boys on the OMHS soccer team that uniforms are now due.

 

  1. Eagle ambassador applications are due tomorrow to Mrs. Gilmore, B-10.

 

  1. Deputy Florence will host a “females only” discussion tomorrow during 8th period. The discussion will focus on females protecting themselves against predators. Please report for attendance and then go to C-2.

 

  1. Interested in summer art classes? If so, pick up information in the front office.

 

  1. FBLA will meet at 8th period today.

 

  1. 7th graders going to DC are reminded of the mandatory student/parent meeting Monday, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Parents are encouraged to bring any medications and accompanying documentation.

 

  1. Mr. Walker reminds students/parents interested in the 2016 European trip to enroll by April 27 to receive the discount.

 

FOR 8TH GRADERS ONLY:

 

  • 8th grade students are invited to the high school’s Younglife tonight, 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Sinclair’s barn – 3108 Sunny Meadows Lane.

 

  • “High School 101” is Monday, April 27, 6 p.m. in the OMHS Performing Arts Center. Transitional topics will be discussed followed by a tour for parents/students.  The Virtual Locker Line will be open May 4, at noon.  You will need your INOW “S” number to register. Additional information is on the high school’s website.

 

  • Panoramic photo orders should be placed by this Saturday.

 

  • Any Science Club member going white water rafting MUST pay by tomorrow.  21 people have not yet paid.

 

SPORTS NEWS:

 

  • Due to Coach Noel’s absence, girls interested in either OMMS or OMHS basketball should see Coach Adams. Basketball try-outs will be in early May, so make sure you have a physical on file.

 

  • Rising 7/8th graders are reminded to turn in XC forms to Mrs. Turner by May 4. Evaluations are scheduled for May 6, 7, & 8.

 

  • Coach DeMasters reminds OMMS students who play OMHS soccer that your uniforms are now due!

 

  • FCA’s last meeting is April 30. Students who have previously attended should plan to attend this special meeting to welcome back all the speakers and enjoy breakfast biscuits provided by The Church at Brook Hills.

April 22 Announcement

  1. Please remember to pay the remaining balance if you reserved a yearbook on lay-away. Payments are due by May to insure receipt of your book on May 14 – distribution day!

April 21 Announcement

  1. Any 6th or 7th grader who is interested in running for an officer position in the Student Government Association, may pick up an application from an SGA sponsor (Higginbotham or C. Wood) starting this Friday, April 24th.

 

  1. Eagle Ambassador forms have been replenished in the front office…stop by to pick one up if interested in applying. The deadline to submit applications is this Friday.

 

  1. OMHS Drama department invites you to this weekend’s performances of Shrek, the Musical! Show times are Friday, 7 p.m., Saturday, 7 p.m., and Sunday, 3:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for students.

 

  1. Congratulations to our DI teams for their performances at the State competition: Our Improv Team placed 2nd, Creature Feature placed 3rd and Feary Tales placed 4th!  These are GREAT placements for teams who had never been to State before!

 

  1. The 8th grade panoramic photo will be taken during 8th period today. Please report to your 8th period teacher for attendance and then to the gym.

April 20 Announcement

  1. The End of the Year gala is Friday, May 1. Only OMMS students who exhibit appropriate school behavior can attend; no siblings or non-OMMS friends. Details will be forthcoming.

 

  1. 7th graders will receive information about the PRIDE survey during 8th period today. Please take this letter home to parents. Parents who choose for students not to participate must notify us by noon on Wednesday, 4/22.

 

  1. Mrs. Shipman’s after school group will not meet today.

 

  1. SGA students who are attending tonight’s Broomball social should remember to bring $9 for the free skate portion, plus money for concessions. Parents may drop off at 5 p.m. and should pick up promptly at 7:15 p.m. You MUST have a signed permission form to participate. See Mrs. Polizos if you still need a form.

 

  1. 8TH graders may return OMHS forms to the front office or the high school. Please be reminded that OMHS is hosting High School 101 on Monday, April 27, 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

  1. Students and family members interested in travelling to Dublin, Ireland, Paris, France, and London, England with 8th grade teacher, Anthony Walker, should plan to attend tonight’s informational meeting at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

 

 

SPORTS NEWS:

 

  • Good luck to our track team members as they head to the Metro Meet this afternoon. Participating members have permission to dismiss at 2 p.m. to change clothes and report to concession hall. The bus is leaving promptly at 2:30 p.m.!

 

  • You must have a current physical on file to try-out for any sport…upcoming try-outs include Cross-Country, girls’ and boys’ basketball.

April 16 Announcement

  1. The 2016 educational tour, hosted by Mr. Walker, has changed destinations and now includes Dublin, Ireland, London, England, and Paris, France in June, 2016. April 13 Announcement

 

  1. 8th grade Science Club meets today, 3-4:30 p.m.

 

  1. Congratulations to our Math teams for their placements at the Berry-Simmons Tournament this past Saturday: 6th grade and 7th grade teams each placed 4th and the 8th grade team placed 3rd.

 

  1. The front office is in possession of a black/white hound’s-tooth tote bag containing male clothing for either band/chorus. Please see Mrs. Rucker to claim.

 

  1. SGA members should remember to bring their broom ball permission forms to tomorrow’s meeting.

 

  1. Show Choir auditions are cancelled for this week. Additional details will be forthcoming.

 

 

SPORTS NEWS:

 

  • 8th graders who need physicals for OMHS should see Coach Tatum during P.E.

 

  • Attention 6/7th grade girls trying out for volleyball! Revised times are:

  • OMHS Freshman/Varsity boys’ soccer game is cancelled for today. Students have permission to check-out at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow for the Vestavia game.

 

  • Congratulations to our softball team on their performance this weekend in the Metro tournament. The Lady Eagles placed 4th overall and ended their season with an overall record of 21 wins and 11 losses.

 

  • Congratulations to OMMS track and field team did an excellent job at the Mountain Brook Invitational. Both the boys and girls teams finished in fifth place. Coach Jones did a fantastic job with the teams today in the absence of Coach Noel.

 

  • XC packets are now available for pick-up in the front office.
