October 1 Announcement

1. The Peer Mediator Bake Sale is now over and they send “thanks” to all who supported this fundraiser!

2. Tomorrow is a school-wide casual day. You may wear sweatpants, but no PE or gym type shorts.

3. Sixth graders are reminded of today’s Math Team try-outs, 3:15-4:15 p.m. in A-7.

4. “Can you can? Of course you can!” The annual Phase I food drive to benefit Oak Mt. Missions and Manna Ministries is underway! Through your generous giving, families in need will benefit. Donations of unopened, unexpired, nonperishable canned or boxed items will be appreciated! A pizza party will be awarded to the most generous class per grade level!

5. Happenings at the North Shelby Library:
October 1 – 29 – “Supernatural” activities
October 2 – Game Day
October 3 – Volunteer day – Contact Kate if you need service hours

6. Attention 8th graders! If you enjoy science, Mr. Walker encourages you to get a Science Club letter from your science teacher starting tomorrow. The signed page of the letter must be returned to Mr. Walker by the first meeting on Monday, October 19 to be a member for this year. That signature page is your ticket to getting into the club this year.

September 29 Announcements

1. If you left a jacket behind in Mrs. Nobles’ class from Phase I, please see Mrs. Rucker.

2. Today’s bake sale is for 8th graders only. Teachers will dismiss by team at the appropriate times.

3. Meetings coming up: Today – Pre-Algebra Math Team try-outs, 3:15-4:15 p.m. in C-4
Thursday: Sign Language Club (no experience needed) 7:15 a.m. in C-8
FCA – 7:15 a.m. in the sports building
Sixth grade Math team try-outs, 3:15-4:15 p.m. in A-7

4. Please be reminded that students will be screened for Scoliosis during PE tomorrow. Students not currently in PE should be excused by the study hall teacher to be examined as well.

5. Our SGA reminds you that grade level shirt orders will be taken beginning next Monday during lunch. The cost is $15 and checks should be made payable to OMMS.

6. Nine-week assessments are next week as follows:

Thursday, October 8 Science & Electives
Friday, October 9 Make-up/First Nine Weeks Grading Period Ends
Please note there is no school Monday, October 12 due to teacher’s professional development.

7. The NS Library kicks off “Supernatural Drawing” tomorrow through October 29. Library staff will be drawing for a bag of Supernatural-related goodies including the 10th season of the popular TV show on DVD. Stop by the library and check out a young adult book to be eligible. One entry per book, 6th – 12th graders only.

September 28 Announcements

1. The Peer Mediator Bake resumes today during 7th period. Please remember you must have a teacher’s pass to attend.

2. Meetings after school today: Debate team in A-16
Phase I in A-19 – parents of club members will meet at 4:30 p.m.

3. Students will be receiving letters today in 7th period regarding Thursday’s Scoliosis screening. Please be sure to share with your parents. No parent action is required unless you will not participate.

2. SGA reminds you spirit shirts go on sale October 5th!

3. If you have a locker jam or need other assistance from the front office, please report to class first to avoid being marked absent or skipping. Students must always have a pass to be out of a class at any time.

September 24 Announcements

1. Debate team members will meet Monday, 9/28, 3-4:30 p.m., in A-16.

2. Eagle Ambassadors will meet tomorrow morning, 7:20 a.m. in B-10 to discuss fall projects.

3. If you would enjoy learning sign language, please plan to attend the informational meeting on Thursday, October 15, 7:15 a.m. in C-8.

4. Please be advised that a screening for scoliosis will take place on October 1 during P.E. Letters to parents will be distributed next Monday.

5. It’s fall Book Fair time! Please be sure to invite your parents! Students can shop during tomorrow’s preview day if accompanied by an adult. Check in with your teachers as you must have a parent note to be excused from class.

September 23 Announcements

1. The Peer Mediator bake sale continues today in D-9 at 7th period. All items are $1. You must have a teacher’s pass to attend.

2. The fall Book Fair opens Friday! Parents are welcome between 9/25 and 10/6. Our preview day is Friday and parents are welcome to come and shop…7:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.

3. Please note a change in Friday’s planned casual day….only the 8th grade will participate this Friday. However, all students will enjoy a casual day on Friday, October 2.

4. Congratulations to our 6th grade Scholars Bowl team who defeated Pizitz!

5. 7th graders are advised that try-outs for the Pre-algebra Math Team will be Wednesday, 9/30, 3:15-4:15 p.m. in C-4.

September 21 Announcements

1. Our Peer Mediators are hosting a bake sale during 7th period today in D-9. Teachers will dismiss students with money (all items $1) when appropriate.

2. Congratulations to the 8th grade for winning spirit week! Your enthusiasm has earned you a grade level casual day this Thursday.

3. First Priority will welcome all students to “See you at the Pole” this Wednesday, 9/23, 7:15 a.m. on the football field. Food, fun, music and inspiring messages will be shared.

4. It’s not too late to be a member of the chess club either to learn how to play or improve your skills. Please pick up an application from the front office. The club will meet Wednesday, 7:15 a.m. in D-2.

5. Former Debate team members are reminded to meet with Mrs. Colley in A-16 today after checking in for attendance with your 7th period teacher.

6. Mr. Walker is looking forward to sharing information regarding the summer trip to Dublin, London, and Paris. If interested, please bring at least one parent to the meeting tomorrow night, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

1. The First Priority Leadership team will meet Monday, September 21, 7:15 a.m. in D-8.

2. It’s Game day at the NS Library – 3-5:45 p.m.

3. Students 14 and over who are interested in volunteering for Boo at the Zoo or ZooLights Safari can pick up information in the front office or visit www.birminghamzoo.com

4. Please be reminded you must have a teacher’s pass to come to the office for the phone or locker jam. Always report to class first for attendance to avoid being marked skipping.

5. Members of last year’s Debate team are reminded to meet with Mrs. Colley on Monday during 7th period. ..check in for attendance first before going to A-16.

6. If you’d love to see Big Ben in London, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, or the Blarney Castle in Dublin, bring your parent to next Tuesday’s EF Tour travel meeting with Mr. Walker, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

7. If you are competing with the BEST Robotics Team, please see Mrs. Whitehead before the end of the day.

September 17 Announcements

1. If you lost an unusually shaped house key on a purple band, please see Mrs. Rucker. Mrs. Rucker also has several jewelry items recently found awaiting owners.

2. 2014-15 Debate team members should plan on meeting with Mrs. Colley, A-16, on Monday, September 21, during 7th period.

3. Students interested in participating in a ping pong tournament on November 13, should see Coach Adams while in P.E.

4. Tomorrow is Gaming Day at the NS Library for students who have permission slips on file. Contact nsyouth@shelbycounty-al.org for details.

5. We’ll wrap up spirit week with “Fratty Friday” tomorrow..wear your sorority/fraternity stylish look – dresses with pearls, collared shirts, loafers without socks, madras plaids, etc.

September 16 Announcement

4. First Priority leadership team will meet Monday, September 21, 7:15 a.m. in D-8. The annual First Priority “See you at the Pole” celebration will take place Wednesday, September 23, 7:15 a.m. on our football field. All students are welcome to join in for food, fun, fellowship, music and positive inspiration!

5. If you are participating on the BEST Robotics Team, there will be a meeting in Mrs. Whitehead’s room,
C-3, during advisory today.
