September 29 Announcements

1. Please be reminded that requests to ride home on another student’s bus must be for emergency related needs and not social. Written requests should be submitted to Mrs. Obert at least 24 hours in advance.

2. Cheer & dance members have permission to dismiss at 1:45 p.m. to prepare for today’s pep rally.

3. Mrs. Acton’s students will eat 5C today.

4. Congratulations to the 8th grade for winning spirit day again! Tomorrow is “Flashback Friday.”

5. Eagle Ambassadors will meet October 6, 7:15 a.m. in D-5.

6. Please support the community book drive for the YMCA by donating gently used books. The drop off box is in the library.

7. Assessments begin on Monday, October 3 with Social Studies.

8. If you’re missing a Wal-mart bag and sandals, please see Mrs. Rucker. Several lunch bags are also awaiting owners in the front office lost/found.

9. Have you noticed how most everyone wears the same type PE uniform? Please put your name in yours!

September 28 Announcements

. Congratulations to the 8th grade for winning Tuesday’s spirit day! Tomorrow is a chance to show your colors as we face off for “Eagle Spirit Color Wars!” 6th is to wear red; 7th should wear blue; and 8th grade should wear white! Due to the pep rally, we’ll be on an afternoon activity bell schedule. Parents coming to the pep rally should arrive by 2:15 p.m. and be prepared to show a photo ID.

2. If you left PE clothes in Mrs. Holt’s room, please see Mrs. Rucker.

3. Eagle Ambassadors should plan to meet October 6, 7:15 a.m. in D-5.

4. 8th graders are reminded High Flight fee is due Monday, October 3, to math teachers.

5. Math team try-outs today immediately after school – 6th will meet in A-3; 7th in C-4.

SPORTS NEWS:

Tomorrow is the deadline for 7/8th grade girls to turn in basketball physicals to Coach Noel.

Tennis team sign-up begins today at D-8 for interested 7/8th grade girls/boys.

Baseball tryouts are mid-October…physicals due to Coach Burdett, D-6.

September 27 Announcements

1. Congratulations to the 7th grade who won yesterday’s spirit wear count! Tomorrow is board game character/piece day.

2. We’re pleased to support an 8th grader’s community service project by bringing in gently used books to benefit the YMCA. Books in any genre, for kids through teen years, can be donated through October 20. You’ll find the donation box in the library.

3. Tonight’s Robotics Club meeting is cancelled.

4. Scholars Bowl practices today – 6th & 8th grade – 3-4:30 p.m.

Tennis: Girls: Tuesday, October 18, 4-5 p.m.
Boys: Wednesday, October 19 – 4-5 p.m. Sign up at Mr. Richardson’s door, D-8.

September 23 Announcements

1. First Priority invites all OMMS families to “See You at the Pole!” on Wednesday, September 28. The event begins at 7:15 a.m. on our football field. Parents should sign in at the front office. There will be positive support, refreshments and music..a great way to start the day!

2. It’s Game Day at the North Shelby Library, 3:30-5:45 p.m. Tuesday Tech – Makey Makey is September 27, 3-5 p.m. in the teen department.

3. NJHS members are reminded of Monday’s deadline to submit your signed letter/fee.

4. 6/7th graders interested in math team try-outs should plan ahead to stay after school on Wednesday, 9/28.

5. Phase I will meet Monday, 3-4:30 p.m. Parents should plan to attend a brief meeting, 4:15-4:30 p.m.

6. Spirit Week kicks off Monday with “Doctor Day.” Wear your medical garb suitable for school; no face paint or masks during spirit week.

7. The Peer Mediator Bake Sale will be today during 7th for interested 8th graders.

8. The nine-week assessment schedule is as follows:

September 22 Announcements

1. Attention 8th graders: High Flight payment will be due to your math teacher by October 3.

NJHS members are reminded your parent/member signed letter and $45 are due by Monday, September 26.

2. Attention 6/7th students! Math team try-outs are next Wednesday, 9/28, 3:05 – 4 p.m. 6th grade will meet in A-3 with Ms. Auer, and 7th in C-4 with Mrs. Jackson.
Parents should pick up promptly at the front of the school.

3. Sixth grade bake sale is today during 7th period. Teachers will dismiss according to the schedule.

4. First Priority invites you to “Eat at Newks” today, 4-9 p.m. The Inverness Corners location will donate 10% of proceeds to First Priority…thanks!

September 21 Announcements

1. 7TH graders who have brought money for the Peer Mediator Snack sale will be able to dismiss to D-9 with a teacher’s pass during advisory. The sixth grade sale is tomorrow.

2. It’s not too late to join the Chess Club! If interested, please pick up information in the front office.

3. FBLA members are reminded to report for 7th period attendance and then immediately to C-5 for today’s meeting.

4. Students selected for Drama Club membership are reminded to stay in your current 7th period advisory class until schedules are changed at the beginning of the next nine weeks. Official schedule changes are forthcoming.

5. Capture your OMMS memories by purchasing a yearbook! Please order online at www.balfour.com Yearbook ads to honor students, coaches, or mentors can also be ordered online through the Publications blog. If questions, please see Mrs. Graham in C-5.

6. Fast Math is back! Interested students can attend daily in B-11 at 7:15 a.m.

7. Phase I will meet Monday, September 26 immediately after school in Mrs. Nobles’ room, A-19. Parents are requested to come at 4:15 p.m. for a brief meeting. If a parent is not attending, please be prepared to pick up your student at 4:30 p.m. in front of the school.

September 20 E-news

1. NJHS members should report to 7th period for attendance and then immediately to the cafeteria. Please bring a writing utensil with you.

2. 7th graders who have brought money may attend the Peer Mediator Snack Sale during 7th period today in D-9 when dismissed by your teacher.

* Congratulations to the 8th grade team who won a hard fought match against Pizitz last night to improve their metro record to 6-2. The Lady Eagles will face Liberty Park and Mountain Brook in a tri-match on Wednesday! Come out and support!

* 7/8th grade girls planning to try-out for softball should report for 7th period attendance and then immediately meet with Coach Webb in the gym. Remember, you must have a current physical on file by tomorrow morning to try-out!

September 16 Announcements

1. Please be reminded that you must have a teacher’s pass to be out of the classroom for any reason.

2. The Sign Language Club will meet Monday, 7:15 a.m. in C-8.

3. Sixth grade math team try-outs will be Monday, 9/26, 3:05 – 4 p.m. in A-3. Parents should pick up promptly in front of the school.

4. The informational Winterguard meeting will be Monday, 9/19, 5:30 p.m. in G-8. Current members and at least one parent should plan to attend.
7. FBLA will meet Monday afternoon next week during advisory to elect officers. There will not be an after school meeting next week.

8. School photos are next Wednesday during PE. Students currently not in PE should report to the gym at the end of the period with a teacher’s pass to have their photo taken.

September 15 Announcements

1. Yearbook/Publications will meet today in C-20 at 7th period.

2. FBLA members who were unable to attend yesterday’s meeting should check the blog for updates. Permission forms, dues and campaign speeches are due tomorrow – no exceptions!

3. Bought your yearbook yet? If not, go to Balfour.com to purchase ads and yearbooks. They were NOT sold at registration this year. If you have trouble buying it online, you may send a payment to the front office – $38, payable to OMMS. Please include student’s full name on the memo line.

* Good luck to our football teams as they play away today at Thompson!

* FCA meets tomorrow morning, 7:15 a.m. in the sports building.

1. NJHS members should plan to meet next Tuesday, September 20, during 7th period in the cafeteria.

2. Students planning to stay for Scholars Bowl try-outs today will report to the media center immediately after dismissal. Parent pick up is at 3:30 p.m. in front of the school.

3. Publications students are reminded to report to the cafeteria at 11:30 a.m. today.

4. Mrs. Colley’s students are informed there is no homework tonight; you’ll work on questions tomorrow in class.
