August 23 Announcements

The following organizations are now looking for interested students:

> Drama Club – open to all grades – sign up at A-16 (Mrs. Bolt) to audition for this group. Auditions will be this Thursday, 7:20-7:40 a.m., Monday, 8/29 – 3:15-3:35 p.m., and Wednesday, 8/31 – 3:15-3:35 p.m. This group will explore theatre pursue acting skills and perform short skits!

> Phase I – community service organization open to previous members who are in 7/8th grade and new 6th graders – applications are in the front office, or outside A-19, or A-10. Applications will be due September 2.

> JUNA (Jr. United Nations) – open to 7th graders – meet in A-17 (Higginbotham) this Thursday, 7:20 a.m. to explore this geopolitical opportunity!

> First Priority Leadership team – open to all students – plan to meet Monday, 8/29, 7:15 a.m. in D-8. (Richardson)

> FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) – open to 7th & 8th graders – check the FBLA blog for details to join online or see Mrs. Graham in C-5 for details.

1. Students interested in the SGA class representative positions are reminded your application is due to Mrs. Polizos, Mrs. Higginbotham, or Mr. Wood by this 3 p.m. this Thursday. Due to our enrollment size, nine representatives per grade will be elected.

2. Yearbooks and yearbook ads are now being sold online at No yearbooks were sold at registration or last spring. Books are currently $38. Check or cash payment will only be accepted from those students who do not have online access. The deadline to purchase and complete yearbook ads is December 30. The $38 yearbook purchase due date will be
January 20, 2017.

Our Eagle spirit is being tested…we only have three remaining days to donate school supplies for students in Baton Rouge, and our donations are minimal….please consider making a donation of writing utensils, loose-leaf paper or spirals, glue sticks, tape, and binders!

August 22 Announcements

1. 7/8TH graders are reminded to remind parents of tonight’s open house. Be sure your parents know your first period teacher as that’s where the fun begins!

2. Please remember to support students in Baton Rouge affected by recent flooding. Your donation of the following school supplies will be appreciated:
6th – loose-leaf paper/binders
7th – writing utensils
8th – spiral notebooks, glue sticks, or tape TAKE SUPPLIES TO 7TH PERIOD TEACHER PLEASE!

3. If interested in Chess or the Jr. Civil Air Patrol, should pick up a flyer in the front office.

4. Lunch money is needed daily as the front office/cafeteria can no longer lend money. If financial assistance is needed, please pick up a form in the front office or print from the SCBOE website. Families must reapply annually for assistance.

5. Eagle Ambassadors helping this evening will meet in D-5 at 5:30 p.m.

August 19 Announcements

1. FCCLA and sixth grade teacher, Jerry Bullock, are teaming up with OMMS students to provide much needed school supplies to students impacted by the floods in Baton Rouge, La. Please consider bringing in one of these items to your 7th period teacher by Friday, August 26. Thank you!

6th – loose-leaf paper or binders
7th – writing utensils – pens, pencils, colored pencils or markers
8th – spiral notebooks, glue sticks, or highlighters

2. If you enjoy science, aeronautics, or are thinking about a military or pilot career, the Civil Air Patrol is recruiting students, ages 12+ for their cadet program. Information is in the front office and an informational meeting is scheduled for August 29, 6:30-9 p.m. at the Bessemer Airport, 700 Mitchell Field Road. Adult volunteers are also needed.

3. Please remember to sign up in the front office if interested in the Honor Guard. Mr. Haynes will host an informational meeting soon.

4. SGA applications for class reps are available in G-7 or A-17. Applications are due by next Thursday and no late applications will be accepted.

Today is the last day of the Spirit Week competition vs. Chelsea sponsored by the Greystone Chick-fil-a. Please stop by and be sure to share your Eagle spirit!

August 17 Announcements

1. Eagle Ambassadors will meet Friday, 7:20 a.m. in D-5.

2. Students interested in running for SGA class representative should attend tomorrow’s informational meeting, 7:20 a.m. in G-7.

3. P.E. clothes will be needed beginning tomorrow. You may purchase in PE ($10 for shirt, $15 for shorts), or wear a solid gray t-shirt and navy athletic (appropriate length) shorts.

4. If you are missing a large orange water bottle, please see Mrs. Rucker. Personal items such as purses, lunchboxes, and backpacks should be labeled with your name.

5. Applications for financial assistance from the Child Nutrition Program are now available from the front office. Families currently enrolled in the program will need to submit a new application for the new school year by September 16.


Our football teams will kick-off their season tomorrow with a jamboree at Chelsea High School! The 7th grade plays at 5 p.m. followed by 8th grade at 6:45 p.m. Go Eagles!!

The Barons Baseball team is hosting a special night, August 20, for persons with disabilities. In sponsorship with the Alabama Institute for the Deaf & Blind, a unique opportunity for the hearing impaired will be featured.

August 16 Announcements

1. Eagle Ambassadors will meet this Friday, 7:20 a.m. in D-5.

2. If you’re on the XC team and are missing an oversized water bottle, please see Mrs. Rucker.

3. PE uniforms are now being sold during classes. The cost is $10 for a shirt; $15 for shorts.

4. 7/8th graders are encouraged to invite parents to meet your teachers at open house next Monday, August 23, 6-7:30 p.m. We’ll start the night in first period and several important documents, including your I-now password, will be distributed to parents.
