Battle of the Books!

Posted by Richard Scott on 15th April 2010

Who are we at CMS? I’ll tell you who are: we are the Shelby County Middle School Battle of the Books champs!!!!!

Ms. Blount, our wonderful library/media specialist, coached a group made entirely of sixth and seventh graders to the county championship, competing against eighth graders from all over the county!

These kids work very hard to read and study excellent works of fiction and they compete by answering questions about these books. It’s high pressure, much like Scholar’s Bowl or the game show Jeopardy. If you don’t know your stuff, it quickly become obvious. It’s even more obvious our BOB team members put a lot of time and effort into preparing for the competition.

Congratulations! We often made a big deal of sports victories, but our achievements in BOB, Scholar’s Bowl, band, FBLA, FCCLA, and every other area of competition should be celebrated as well! If kids work hard at it, it’s important!
