The Shelby County Education Assocation recently awarded scholarships in two categories – student and member. The student scholarships were awarded to graduating high school seniors who are children or grandchildren of SCEA members, and the member scholarship was awarded to an SCEA member who is furthering his or her education.

This year, SCEA presented two $1,000 scholarships to students and one $1,000 scholarship to a member.  The two student scholarships were awarded to Kansas Kirk, a senior at Shelby County High School, and Rebecca Thomas, a senior at Oak Mountain High School.  Krik plans to continue her education at Tulane University, while Thomas plans to attend the University of Montevallo.

The SCEA member scholarship was awarded to Alex Cox, a 6th & 7th Grade Gifted Reading Teacher at Helena Middle School.  Cox is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Gifted Education at Samford University.
