Shelby County Board of Education Approves Key Positions

The Shelby County Board of Education approved several key positions during their meeting on June 5.  The positions included two new principals for Vincent Elementary and the Shelby County College and Career Center and a new assistant principal for Oak Mountain High School. Other positions included Professional Development Supervisor, Supervisor of Payroll, Supervisor of Finance and Accounting, and Transporation Coordinator.

Linda Campanotta2Dr. Linda Campanotta will be the new principal at Vincent Elementary School.  Dr. Campanotta has over 26 years in education and is currently the principal at Valley Elementary School.  She has Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and an Ed.S in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).  She also earned a Certificate in Educational Leadership from UAB and has recently finished a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Samford University.

Russ CofieldLawson “Russ” Cofield will be the new principal at the Shelby County College and Career Center.  Mr. Cofield has over 14 years experience in education.  He has taught at the secondary school level and is currently the assistant principal at Shades Valley Technical Academies. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education at Auburn University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Montevallo, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership at UAB.

Kendall JacksonKendall Jackson will be the new assistant principal at Oak Mountain High School.  Ms. Jacson has taught English at Thompson High School for the past nine years.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Samford University.  She earned a Master’s degree in Secondary Educaton and Education Leadership from the University of Montevallo.

 

Angela WalkerDr. Angela Walker will be the new Professional Development Supervisor.  Dr. Walker is a National Board Certified teacher with over 25 years of experience in education.  She is currently the principal at Mt Laurel Elementary School.  Dr. Walker received an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership certification, and Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from UAB.  She also earned a PhD in Early Childhood education with an emphasis in Educational Leadership from UAB.

John Gwin

John Gwin was approved as Supervisor of Finance and Accounting.  Mr. Gwin has served as the Financial Analyst for Shelby County Schools since 2012.  He previously served as an Accounting Assistant since 2006.  Mr. Gwin earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration wih a major in Accounting from the University of South Alabama.  He became a Certified Public Accountant in 2009.  He is a member of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Alabama Assocation of School Business Officials.

Rick VinesRick Vines will serve as Transportation Coordinator.  Mr. Vines has over 23 years of experience as an educator and is currently the Transportation Route Supervisor for Shelby County Schools.  He was previously an assistant principal at Oak Mountain High School.  He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from the University of Alabama and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
