Chelsea Middle School Students Essays Submitted to Elks Club Competition

Sixth graders in Mrs. Caiola’s Social Studies classes at Chelsea Middle School submitted essays to the Cahaba Valley Elks Lodge #1738 on the topic: “What I Can Do to Promote Americanism and Love of Country.”  Jessica Holsombeck, Grier Reid, Olivia Morgan, Brennen Wilder and Jackson Wells were chosen as first place winners in their classes. They will be honored at the May Honors Day ceremony at CHMS with special commemorative coin sets and also invited to the Flag Day celebration on June 14th at the Pelham Civic Center to be recognized for their patriotism.

Brennen Wilder’s essay was the selected as the overall best essay at CHMS and will be sent to state competition. Brennen wrote, “Patriotism in America is like the heart is to the body. The people of the United States are the heart and soul of the country. Without the support of the people, the government would collapse.”

State, district and national levels of Elks Club judging will continue through April.
