Shelby County Students and Teachers Honored at Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Awards

Winners of the top four awards given at Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce 2016-2017 Student and Educator of the Year awards program were all won by students and teachers from the Shelby County School District.  The awards, which are sponsored by America’s First Federal Credit Union, were held April 26 at the Pelham Civic Complex.

This fourth year for the program, which honors elementary and secondary educators along with career-ready and college-ready students.  Nominees are accepted from every public and private school in Shelby County and then are judged by an independent panel of judges.

The top four awards were presented to Ben Jones, from the Shelby County College and Career Center, for Career-Ready Student; Armeen Barghi from Oak Mountain High School for College-Ready Student; Amy Miller from Oak Mountain Intermediate School for Elementary Educator; and Gary Griffith from the Shelby County College and Career Center for Secondary Educator.
