Monday 9/18

Reviewed roots before taking the second roots quiz #1-17 for 32 silver points. See the Roots Page at the top of the blog for details.

Got Miss Goebel’s approval for writing, which was more like a quick trouble shooting rather than a detailed evaluation…use her Randy RACE Example as a model.

Using the  Post Mortem Project Instruction/Grade sheet, we worked on the character bodies, drawn on the butcher paper that we provided in class.

Homework = Tomorrow is your last work day before the project is due/presented when you walk into class on Wednesday.

Tuesday 9/19

Got new roots #18-21. See the Roots Page at the top of the blog for details. FYI: Our third and last silver quiz is Thursday, September 28, and our final roots test (gold) is Thursday, October 5.

Had a brief check in with Miss Goebel to decide which partner would work on what part: who would color, who would write the final draft of RACE for each body part, etc.

Spent 45 minutes working in groups to complete the post mortem project, using  Post Mortem Project Instruction/Grade sheet and Miss Goebel’s Randy RACE Example as guides to success.

Homework = Your group’s post mortem project is due tomorrow when you walk into class Thursday when you walk into class.You’ll present/turn in your poster, turn in your Post Mortem Project Instruction/Grade sheet, and complete a group member evaluation.

Wednesday 9/20

Took Miss Goebel’s Post-test for Outsiders Project. Click on the correct link for your class period to take it: 2nd Period3rd Period4th Period5th Period, or 6th Period.

Thursday 9/21

With Miss Goebel, we turned in your poster and your Post Mortem Project Instruction/Grade sheet, in addition to presenting quickly to the class.

Introduced The Outsiders Essay: Writing about Thematic Ideas instruction/grade sheet. First, everyone picked one thematic idea that he/she knows pretty well in the novel. Then, everyone completed the brainstorming activity.

Homework = Completed brainstorming due tomorrow for a bronze grade. FYI: We’ll type our first draft tomorrow in class, revise it Monday in class, and turn it in Tuesday for a gold grade.

Friday 9/22

Worked on writing our essay about The Outsiders: The Outsiders Essay: Writing about Thematic Ideas instruction/grade sheet

  • Checked last night’s homework ( the brainstorming activity.) for a 10 point bronze effort grade.
  • Got an example essay as a model.
  • Using the brainstorming sheet + the example essay + Google Drive, we wrote our rough drafts of the essay. Share your Google doc with me (shutchings) ASAP.

Homework = Complete your rough draft on Google Drive or handwritten–just get it done! Use our example essay as a model. Rough draft is a bronze grade on Monday, when we will meet in B11 computer lab.

FYI about Upcoming Dates:

  • Tuesday 9/26 = GOLD essay due.
  • Wednesday 9/27 = Dress up like a Greaser or a Soc!
  • Thursday 9/28 = Silver roots quiz #1-21
  • Friday 9/29 = GOLD final exam
