Spring is in the air!

Happy Spring Break week!

The superheroes really did a wonderful job this week. I can tell they were working extra hard to get tallies and 4 students got 20 tallies! We are going to enjoy the break, but we want to give our best as we are in the last lap. We want to finish strong! We talked about making inferences from informational text. Inferences are made when we use what we know already, our background knowledge, and we use the text and the pictures to make an observation or inference. The students will be continuing to look for inferences as they read informational and fiction books. Ask your child if they can use the background knowledge, the text and pictures to make an inference while they read to you.

Also, we will be starting on the comprehension skill of finding the main idea and reasons that support the main idea from the text. For instance, students will be reading ebooks about animals. If the passage is talking about the habitat of the arctic wolf, can the student identify what a reason that supports that statement? Which one supports the statement: “Arctic wolves are made with thick fur to keep them warm in the artic weather,” or “Arctic wolves hunt of deer and oxen”? This is a website we will be using during reading to find the supporting reasons. Feel free to use it and discuss this at home!
