Several students have still not returned the Student Information Sheet. These were due last Friday the 16th and they are a grade. I am including it below.
Thank you so much to those of you who have already sent in the class donation. Please note on the syllabi (above under each grade level tab) that different classes request different classroom donations – $15 for 6th grade, $25 for 7th grade, and $50 for 8th grade which may be broken into two $25/semester payments.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Is it just me or was summer five minutes long this year?
I hope everyone is well-rested and ready for an awesome school year! Please see links above for information and a syllabus for each class. For the first Thursday and Friday, we will be focusing on getting to know each other and what to expect in my class.
On Monday 8/12 we will review classroom policies and procedures, review the syllabus, and go over Classroom Safety Rules. Students are required by the state to take a Classroom Safety quiz for all Career Tech teachers (Bishop, Thomas, and Whitehead). We will review the rules together in class on Monday, students will be provided a copy of the rules, and I have posted a copy below. This quiz will be on Friday, 8/16. Multiple attempts will be permitted, but students must score 100% on this quiz. The score from the first attempt will be entered on inow.
We are one quarter of the way through the school year! Welcome to my new 6th graders this week. With PAL going on over the next three weeks, you may have questions about the work you will miss. I will be exempting students from any assignments that they miss while at PAL. Unfortunately, because I have all three teams at one time, it is just impossible for everyone to make up the different assignments because not everyone will miss the same things. We will be covering Personal Development, Friendship/Peer Pressure, and Career Exploration for the first three weeks in that order. On the fourth week, once everyone is back from PAL, we will begin covering Kitchen Safety and Sanitation.
Each student in Career and Technical Education programs is required to take a classroom safety test. This test will be given each Friday for the first two weeks to ensure that every team takes the test. Red and Blue will take it the first week and White will take it the second week. The safety rules are attached here:

In addition, each student will need to return the Student Information Form signed by both the student and the parent verifying that you have reviewed the information on the syllabus. The syllabus and the Student Information Form are attached here:

The Student Information Sheet is due on the first Friday that the student is in my class (Week one for Red and Blue, Week two for White).
As we are beginning our fourth week of school (hard to believe!), I wanted to update with what we will be learning for the next few weeks.
6th Graders are beginning the Kitchen Safety and Sanitation unit. The very important quiz will be on Friday, September 7. In the meantime, we will be learning about Kitchen Tools and Equipment, Reading a Recipe, and Kitchen Math and Measuring. Once we have completed our safety quiz, we will begin food labs with a very detailed lab planning day to go over lab policies and procedures. Our first lab will be smoothies on September 11.
7th and 8th Graders will be finishing our Personal Development units with projects focusing on Healthy Family relationships. 7th Graders will complete a Family Crest displaying symbols that reflect family hobbies and traditions as well as a family motto. 8th Graders will complete a Family Flower Pot activity that demonstrates the challenges and changes that occur in families and how to overcome for a strong family relationship. Other topics discussed in Families include the roles of family members, the various family structures, and the family life cycle.
