Independent Reading Project –A Book Jacket
Students will read 1 novel approved by the teacher. Books read prior to August 4th may not be used.
Novels should be at least 100 pages long and on a 5th grade reading level . You are encouraged to read challenging books. You will not grow as a reader unless you do!
Book Jacket Project : The jacket should excite other students to read the book.
Due no later than September 17 Early extra credit (10 points) due date September 10
The Front Cover of your original book jacket should list the title of the book, the author’s name and an original work of art depicting a scene, theme or character from the book. The art work should be enticing and hint at the book’s content so that viewers would want to read the book.
The inside left flap should contain interesting or important information about the author. The information should be about 20- 40 words in length and well written. Do not copy. An illustration or picture of the author is desirable, but not necessary.
The inside right flap should contain reviews by readers of the book. These readers can be imagined. Students may include themselves as a reader for reviews.
The back cover should contain a 100-150 word sequential summary of the entire plot. This should be in your own words. This is a sequential summary. Do not copy any part of your summary!! Do not include any questions or invitations to read the book!!!!!!!!!!
Detach here and paper clip to book jacket. Write your name and period at bottom right of front cover.
