Picture Sparked Memory: Autobiographical Writing Assignment
“A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away.” – Eudora Welty
Daniel’s Story is told through his memories sparked by photos
Project description: You will need to find a picture that captures a special, personal memory. This picture can be recent, or it can be of you when you were younger. (No baby pictures! You cannot remember anything from your infancy.) The picture needs to be a copy or a reprint. Please do not use the original. It does not necessarily have to be on photo paper. If you have a color printer at home and the picture is digital, by all means use your personal printer to print the picture.
The assignment: You will be required to write at least three paragraphs about this picture. There will be writing workshops in class to help you gather ideas and formulate at least three paragraphs. Materials needed for project:
A poster board (White or black poster board is fine to use, but please do not use neon
colored poster boards. The brightness of a neon colored poster board really hurts my
eyes, and it makes it difficult to grade. Thanks for understanding!
A copy or a reprint of the picture
If you type the final copy for grading in class, you will need to print off
TWO copies of your final autobiographical narrative. If you handwrite the writing assignment. I will need you to make a copy. Why? One copy will be glued on half of the poster board for display, and the other copy will be graded with my remarks, suggestions, and corrections. The copy that is graded by me will be put in your writing portfolio. If you have any problems getting to a copy machine, please let me know and I will be happy to make a copy for you. Your name needs to be clearly written in the upper right-hand corner of both copies.
DO NOT WRITE THIS ESSAY AT HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
