Literary Magazine

Shelby County and CHMS Literary Magazine

It’s that time again…time for students to submit work to the literary arts magazine. Each year, we collect short stories, essays, poems, and art work to include in the literary arts magazine. When students submit their work, please make sure they understand they are submitting it to be evaluated for inclusion in the literary arts magazine. Just because they submit their work, it does not mean that it will be included. It will be considered.

When is it due?

February 17 is the deadline; however, feel free to submit work earlier. The earlier the better!

What type of work is accepted?

Short stories, essays, poems, and art work are accepted for consideration in the literary arts magazine.

How do students submit work?

See your ELA teacher or Mrs. Frye for an entry form and a media/web release form to attach to your work. Basically, the selection committee is looking for creative, interesting pieces that demonstrate a unique voice/style of writing.

When will students know if their work is selected?

They will find out in April if their pieces have been chosen for the literary arts magazine for Chelsea Middle School.

Will student work be selected for the Shelby County Literary Arts Magazine?
A committee also selects the top 10 pieces of writing to take to the Shelby County Literary Arts magazine selection committee. They will find out in May if their piece is chosen for the Shelby County Literary Arts Magazine. Each year, Chelsea Middle School has had many pieces chosen. The selection process is a blind selection process (no student names and no school names), so it is quite nice to know that we go in with a strong representation each year. Chelsea Middle usually has either the most pieces or the second most pieces chosen for middle school entries. So, thank you and great work!
