IMPORTANT FACILITIES INFORMATION

Friday, February 28

Dear Parents and Friends of Chelsea Middle School

1. In the very near future, work will begin to replace a portion of our sewer pipes with six inch pipes. At this time, I don’t know the specific work schedule. Starting Monday, March 3, no one will be allowed to park past the canopy connecting grade 8 to Band. This includes the area adjacent to the cafeteria, the baseball field and the grassy area behind the concessions stand. We are coordinating with central office to assure that school will continue safely and end of quarter testing will be uninterrupted. No student will ever be at risk because of the replacement work.

While much of the work will be done while we are not in school, I am doing everything I can to protect instructional time from noise. I am working with Facilities and Maintenance to minimize potential noise schedule as much work as possible outside school sessions.

2. Also, I learned this week that the County will replace our gym bleachers and resurface the gym floor in the near future (no date has been set yet).

3. Mr. Ferguson will conduct Programming meetings to plan and schedule facilities improvements and changes related to both the current middle school building and the way in which the former elementary school and ChMS are integrated into “one” building. Architects are already planning changes related to connectivity of the buildings, appeal, accessibility, and functionality. I will keep you informed of relevant information that comes out of those meetings.

4> I met today with an architect to develop a plan to vastly improve our stadium concessions and field house building which houses the dressing room. After our meeting, I am optimistic that, together we will be able to make the kind of improvements that will create a high quality environment for our sports fans and guests.

Have a great weekend!
Bill
