Information from Counselor

My name is Officer Joshua Lindsey. I am hoping you may be able to assist me with getting some information to your high school counselors. I am one of the advisors for our department’s Police Explorer Program. Every fall we do a big recruiting drive to find young men and women that are interested in a career in Law Enforcement. Our program (which is chartered through the Boy Scouts of America, Learning for Life Program) is open to young men and women ages 14-21. They will learn the in’s and outs of law enforcement, compete in team competitions, be active in community service efforts, and after a probationary period can “Ride Along” with on-duty police officers. This career education experience is second to none. We believe this program to be the best way for young people interested in a law enforcement career to “get their foot in the door”. Our program has graduated more explorers out to become law enforcement officers than any other in the state. Our police department currently employs 8 former explorers. There are also several more at other local departments.

We are having a “First Nighter” Open House at our explorer post on Monday, October 6, 2014, from 5:30pm to 7pm at our training facility on Cunningham Dr. (Directions available on Facebook or by calling the Police Department at 205-663-6499). There will be refreshments and demonstrations for anyone that may be interested in joining. We would greatly appreciate it if your counselors could pass the word to students they believe may be interested. If you would like to have them send it via the ListServ or other Parent Contact method, that would be great as well!

I greatly appreciate your time and consideration regarding this learning opportunity for our local teens! If can answer any questions or be of any other assistance, please feel free to contact me. Also, our Facebook page is www.facebook.com/Helena-Police-Explorers

If you, or anyone else, would like more information about the Exploring Program (which has MANY other career fields besides law enforcement), their website is www.learning-for-life.org.

Thank you,
