OMIS follows the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) program for math. More information is available through the AMSTI website (www.amsti.org). Shelby County is also piloting a new Houghton Mifflin Harcourt program this year. Further, I have suggested other websites available for extra practice in my math links to the left. If your student needs more one-on-one help, I am usually at the school each weekday morning by 7:15 and can be available most of those (barring hall/bus duty, meetings, etc.) to help guide the student through specific questions. That few minutes before the first bell will be much better spent focused on the very point at which the student got stuck on a particular homework or review problem rather than a very broad, “I don’t get it.” No appointment is required certainly, but an email heads up does prevent me from planning to run copies that particular morning. Please note that I do not call in students for extra morning help; it is on them to take the initiative.
