Our annual scholarship contest aims to recognize and reward the academic achievements, creativity, and knowledge of high school students, while also honoring the richness of Black heritage and history that has shaped our many communities. 

Here are some key details about the Mu Psi Lambda Chapter’s Black History Scholarship Contest:

Scholarship Amount: The chapter is offering five (5) $500 one-time scholarships to deserving students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and a commitment to their school and community.

Eligibility: 
12th-grade students in the greater Birmingham and Jefferson County area

Essay Topic: Reflect on the profound impact of an influential figure or event in Black history and explain how their contributions have shaped the path toward racial equality. Discuss the relevance of this historical figure or event in today’s society and how it has influenced your personal aspirations and commitment to social justice.
Scholarship Criteria:  

  • High School Seniors in the Birmingham or Jefferson County area
  • Must submit a Completed applicationĀ that includes:Ā 
  • 400-500 word essay responding to the provided promptĀ 
  • Official high school transcript with an unweighted overall GPA of 2.5 or higher.Ā 
  • Two (2) letters of recommendationĀ from a teacher, counselor, or principal.
  • Resume highlighting community service and leadership experience
