sakiWe read Saki’s short story  “The Interlopers” in class today. If you are at home sick, please read it either in your literature book or here.  If you are an auditory learner, listen to the short story here. Write short answers to the questions on page 85 1-8 please. That is your homework.  Also—do the two worksheets I gave you on vocabulary practice for “Scarlet Ibis” and “Interlopers”. Put in folder as numbers 6 and 7.

The Carpathian Mountains is the setting for the story. See photos of the place.

Since we have been talking about bullying, revenge, and characters who hold grudges against others, read the following poem:

“A Poison Tree”
William Blake

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I water’d it in fears,
Night and morning with my tears;
And I sunnéd it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright;
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine,

And into my garden stole,
When the night had veil’d the pole:
In the morning glad I see
My foe outstretch’d beneath the tree.
