Lesson Plans for Monday, February 16-Friday, February 20, 2015

English 11:

Monday, Feb. 16: Presidents’ Day! No School!

Tuesday, Feb. 17:

1. Bellringer

2. Review pages 1250-1255 in textbook– Reading for Information: “Analyzing Argumentative and Expository Texts”

Theatre/Film Review, Feature Article

Know the terms: review, feature article, fact and opinion

Put these questions on your new binder’s table of contents as #1 after you get credit for doing it (put it in the in box drawer).

Don’t do the TIMED WRITING after all (was on the board last Thursday and Friday). I don’t think anyone did this part, but if you did, we can use it for extra credit so it’s not “for nothing.”

3. Read as class: page 1256  WRITE A PERSUASIVE ESSAY

4. Topics you can use for your essay:

101 Persuasive Essay and Speech Topics

Your essay is due next week (see calendar) and it should be typed, font TNR 12, double spaced, no “I” or “me”

Using I or me is fine, but let’s not use contractions.  I do not need an outline or a rough draft for this essay.  (Time constraints.)

You need to quote three sources that strengthen your arguments. (One source quoted/cited in each body paragraph.)
You will need a Work Cited page that shows who these sources are.

Wednesday, Feb. 18: Computer Lab

(ABSENT–students worked on rough drafts in class, using devices to research.)

Meet in the upstairs computer lab to begin typing your persuasive essay.

Thursday, Feb. 19: Computer Lab

First day to type your persuasive essay.

Friday, Feb. 20:

All classes meet me in computer lab to finish typing your essay. Due on Tuesday, February 24 for a gold grade.
