dave k, finisher of the half-marathon, is honorary first for the week…

super proud that dave was four minutes ahead of me in the race today

“encountering truth” – by Pope Francis – as i understand it, he “preaches” three days a week – this was a collection from his first year – little reflections tied to passages – the title was a good one for the book – what do we do when we encounter truth? ignore it? dismiss it? accept it, and if so, how?

“slaying the dragon” by michael johnson – the only, i think, winner of olympic gold in the 200 and 400 meter races – in atlanta – it was a typical book from a jock trying to cash in on success at his peak moment – usain bolt has a book like this – michael phelps has a book like this – i still enjoyed it – it was still well worth the dollar at the thrift store – just a good piece from the 1996 games – and the mindset of an athlete – which is a mindset different from most of us

“billy martin” – martin was the yankees manager five times – and he was fired five times – the author makes a point early in the book to say that billy was more than the comical image he was in the 1980s – which was when i knew him following baseball – it is truly remarkable the jobs he did with the twins, rangers, A’s, and the yankees – so while the book was lengthy, a definite recommendation to my baseball crowd

  1. Won the first game by 4, but lost the second by 1. Jemison had a girl as tall as I am, no lie.

  2. Kaleb was a selfish jerk. Every one hated him because of his smart mouth. He needed to be taught a lesson. He needed to go to boot camp. But his parents denied my offer. So he’s still a big jerk. I hope this is worth it to you said Dave as kaleb lit off a fire work in someone’s yard. He replied that if its funny it’s north it. I kicked his but. Kaleb continued to terrorize his nabbers into submission and he tried to take over to world. So I kicked his butt. Then he tried to kill all humans. I had to explain to him that he is human to. He didn’t brlive but still didn’t kill all humans. So I’ve saved the world twice now and kaleb still is terrorizing the nabbers. I gave up. We all died.

  3. Book: Small steps
    line: “my pants are on”
commentary: The pants he’d worn the night before were on the floor of his room. “That’s one leg,” he said as he stepped into it. “Wait, now just hold on a second. I got something here that just might cool your jets.” X-Ray reached into his pocket and pulled out a wad of money.”Two hundred and ninety-eight dollars!”
    line:”What are you doing here?”
Commentary:He didn’t have to work Sundays and would have always slept late, but shortly after nine someone turned on his bedroom light. He shielded his eyes as X-Ray smiled down on him.
    line:” This is Theodore Johnson”
commentary: Armpit stopped digging as his boss and a woman approached. The woman wore blue jean and a loose-fitting white shirt. Her long silver hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Austin had a reputation for being a little weird, and the mayor fit right in.
    line: “How about that one”
commentary: She definitely considered it an honor for one of her lovies to get to go to high school with Theodore, and she carefully considered who was most deserving.
