billy, learn to spell!!!

i had to start with the above title b/c billy apparently can’t spell Bibles – see previous blog comments from last week – so i figured maybe this would help lead him in the right direction if i used exclamation points

you can see from the below that i read a bit last week

“the dogma of cats for kids” by Snyder – wonderful small-ish book for kids about how to apply the learning of people to the learning of cats – good elem book – good one for my middle school when we work with special needs kids

“cat sense” by bradshaw – great read – I talked my sister to death on our run this morning about it – great for my middle school cat lovers – I wish i’d had this book at my students’ age – i’d have cared and understood my cats better – anyway, great practical book about cats – what makes them tick – what makes them unique from dogs (HINT: they’re not small dogs:)

“opera A to Z” by Lindsay – this should be on our required list for BOB next year – a book about the great operas of all-time – complete with a beginning to what the heck is opera in the first place and with an index in the back to help you go forward for more after reading it – from a non-opera person, I learned so much – my kids would too that I teach – great introductory book – really for all ages

“Birmingham then and now” – this was actually two books – a book on the shopping district and a book on the TV stations – read quickly – lots of photos – I enjoyed learning about the buildings I fly by for Mercedes

“Alabama legends” – mr scott’s book – interviews with Tide legends – i guess the takeaway i had from the book this time was that it really was an interview driven work – you could tell mr. scott didn’t spend his time in books for this book – he was on the phone talking to people – which is something i think most people wouldn’t have thought about his book

“Running Tide” – best named running book ever:) joan benoit samuelson was an elite marathoner in the 1980s – the book came out in 1987 – interestingly enough, she’s still elite at the 50-over female group – she could beat me in a marathon – so the fact that she’s remained so strong for so long, it made the book even better – from a teaching standpoint, she spent like a chapter on her junior high – which was funny – only biography I’ve read recently where someone did that

stay cool

  1. and so we’re back at the beginning – is this a misspell or does such a thing as dibles exist – and what exactly are they???

be sure to tell your dad happy father’s day – he’s got two good ones

  2. Dibles as in the stupid fake words that use “word blends” (at, ar) and read as much of this passage as you can before my little timer runs out

  3. then it’s dibels – right??? check with an elem person – but i’m pretty sure that’s the right spelling – so glad we’re making progress here:)

  4. so is misspelling:)

how about puig??? he’s doing a number for LA – too bad that the rest of the team is awful – did you read the article in sports illustrated on Cabrera and fielder??? that one was good

    hope you’re staying cool

  5. Ah i feel like i havent been here in forever. I just got back from the beach yesterday. Bailey and my other friend went with me, it was SO much fun!!! I think i give up, ive only read 3 books this summer so far, and they were all summer reading books. Im on like the 3rd chapter of Around The World In Eighty Days. Ugh….i just have too much on my plate. Haha classic summer middle school drama.

    Peace out my peasents ✌

  6. queen,
great to hear from you – glad you had beach fun – and thanks for being slow so far on the books – i’ll slow down myself (I still think you’re lying and you’ll come back with 3,000 books read – just to foil my evil plans… 🙂

  7. Mom is letting me go to the driving range (anmarie thats golf) all by myself crossed my fingers that ill get kidnapped 😉

  8. Here’s my creative

Finally sated, I set off for the library, to find some maps and hopefully find a way to reach the Squid Empire, my only means of defeating AnnMarie. Even though I had stolen the waffle, it would take a few days before the defenses began to fail, so AnnMarie had a head start on readying her troops to attack me. Great, the biggest and strongest empire in the world of Mafeld is out to get me.

The map was very helpful. After minutes of debating it, I stole it, to use as a reference later. I promised myself later that I would return it someday.

The streets were not as crowded when I left the library. I assumed it was because it was getting late, but it was only five o’clock according to the clock tower by the city hall. I then saw the law enforcement of the city coming right for me. Had I been found already?

I kept it cool, making sure the map was unnoticeable in my waistcoat; I leaned against the wall of the library and nodded at them when they passed. They took no attention to me, and I let out the breath I was holding.

  9. billy, is there a sport you aren’t good at??? i should bring my putter to school and we could play mini golf…

fred, still got the creative powers going in the heat – wonderful job

  10. Billy- the third time in history when i beat u at something

Today- sold 11 copies of my book this month, twelve overall

    You- 0

  11. I want to compete in a tourney in gadsen but i have to get better and beat cole on saturday

  12. I’ve decided to start reading the Harry Potter series again because I’m the biggest Harry Potter fan in the world, so this is what happened, and you all probably know anyway because to be in GT u have to read the series.

Ok so Mr. Dursley sees some weird things while going to and from work today. He sees a cat (McGonagall) reading a map, he sees men and women in cloaks, whispering about the Potters, and owls flying across the skies all day.

That night, Albus Dumbledore arrives in Privet Drive and sees McGonagall in the driveway, and she tells him that there are rumors flying around that Lily and James Potter are dead, and that Voldemort was not able to kill Harry. When Dumbledore tells her that both of those rumors are true, Hagrid arrives with Harry. Dumbledore puts Harry on the doorstep of the Dursleys and puts a letter in his blanket. Then they all leave, and the next morning Aunt Petunia finds him and screams. That’s all.

    Done blogging for the week!

  13. great work fred – I’ve actually thought about rereading the series myself – and you’d be surprised – i’d bet only 10 percent of my class has read that series all the way through – maybe even just 5 percent

  14. This is the sixth time through. I’ve read the series five times already, and every time i find more from the books.
