catching up on book reading…

“thunder and lightning” – got it for the classroom – available on special request – great science book – about the weather that we have – and are going to have – i love forecasting – the challenge of it – and hearing about the power of weather – so this was a great book – plus, the author can draw

“undefeated: jim thorpe” – great YA read – from the BOB title “bomb” from last year – a non-fiction book about carsile football – and jim thorpe – and how for a brief bit, a small pennsylvania college/high school ruled college football – i would’ve loved that book in jr high and high school

“first year” – learned about first year babies – part of my job as uncle – basically, it’s a miracle any of them survive:)

“there i go again” – MR FEENEY!!! from boy/girl meets world – william daniels – who was a great broadway actor prior to entering my life in the 1990s – and a great tv actor (st elsewhere) – insightful read – he’s almost 90 years old now – and the abuse he went through as a child actor – great book for gifted kids

“of goats and governors” – history of alabama politics – my mom wanted to read the book – and she read it so quickly i got to read it too – shelby county tie-ins – it was interesting – it was definitely slanted though – and the knocks against the press were just wrong b/c if there weren’t media checks, there’s no telling how much more corruption we’d have in this state…

“the first thanksgiving” – just in time for the day – great, great book about the pilgrims – and how to reconcile thanksgiving with them – basically, they’d be horrified to learn what we’ve done – the author has good insight on how to read history – i honestly would’ve loved a copy to read to the class – good book on many levels

Trick or Treat Reading – a mixed bag…

catching up on the past few weeks…

“I was Saved by the Bell” – good read – anything about one of my childhood sitcoms is bound to be good – and it wasn’t a tell-all like some of those types of books read – the producer of Bell has lived a really full life – from JFK work to working for Pat Robeson in Virginia – so from liberal to conservative – parts of the book read almost like Forrest Gump – the guy was around a lot of history – very enjoyable read

“How to be Right” – math book – complex at times – okay, most all the time – but it was good with establishing how unproven a lot of our ideas are – and how the world would be a better place if more people took math and numbers seriously – i tried to use the book to make a point in my Bible study group last week – bad idea… 🙂

“Accidental Feminist” – the title was a misnomer – disappointing book – it was traditional theory – no new surprises – although, it’s always fun to read a book that’s not for you – like lots of times the author talked about “girl time” – i felt like I was eaves-dropping – but nothing remotely feminist about the book – and I don’t think I can look at adult women the same for a while after the author said that every woman secretly wants to be led by a man (glad they all know where they’re going…)

“ghost” – from the dave and jorja library – awesome book – i have had three of you read it already – will get you in the mood for the PE half-mile – i could see why it was recommended as a national honor book

“Shaken” – tim tebow’s new book – great book – good stories – i’ve even tried to get my dad to read it – i’ve ordered it for the classroom – basically, the book picks up after tebow leaves the NFL – it’s less about him and more about our faith walks – good read
