school cancelled on account of yucky-ness:)

good day to be indoors and resting marathon soreness:)

“Dodgerland” – great, great book – history of the baseball LA teams in 1977-78 – how LA was transitioning into things that would be relevant in the years to come – several narratives woven throughout the story – awesome, awesome book for my history lovers – and baseball lovers – in the classroom

“show your work” – book on creativity – how to jump start something – good, practical advice

more questions on can-ay-dia please:)

happy super bowl day

“home game” – book from a baseball player i grew up watching – story of his family’s generations of playing – good anecdotes – good for my baseball guys in class

“running: a love story” – jen a. miller – her story is my story – in a way – coming from nowhere to running – miller’s story is more personal than mine though – a story of bravery – in more ways than one – another good one for my students

“the basketball tide” – thrift stores rock – found a 1977 alabama basketball book – the author had spoken to some of the first members of the tide’s hoops teams – which amazes me – so just in matters of history, a wonderful book – basketball is definitely the undercard in our state, but this book is a treasure

can we just jump ahead to spring???

love this weather…

“choosing hope” – one of the newtown elem teachers – first grade – she got her kids in a closet and kept them quiet during the shooting three years ago – this is her book – she actually never taught much afterward – she got into problems with her school district – the book was powerful – mostly for me in matters of understanding school policy – there can’t be a uniform way of dealing with a tragedy – the school system didn’t do a good job responding correctly in her case – at all

“greatness in the shadows” – larry doby was the second af-am player in the Bigs – after jackie robinson – the book wasn’t so much a biography as the title – how he was great – and overshadowed – good for the start of baseball season – at least, practice:)

“yes, my accent is real” – raj from big bang has a book!!! it was good – my mom actually read it in like a day – one of the interesting things i’d have loved to explore in class… raj was singled out as the weak person in his theater team’s performance at districts – in other words, the judges thought he wasn’t good- one of several cases in the book where if he’d listened to others, he’d never be where he is today

cold enough to freeze my water bottle…

and yet, no early dismissals…

“hangin’ tough” – great, great book – LOVED IT – loved the concept – a book about an influential album in your life – and why that’s so – my sister would be the other perfect reader for this book

“the only pirate at the party” – great book – it was a great reading week – saw master vic reading this one on monday – i didn’t read as fast as she and Detective – but i got through the book in an impressive speed – and really enjoyed it
