I am sorry to have missed you at Open House. I am currently recovering from surgery and cannot wait to be back at school! This will be my sixth year teaching at Montevallo Middle School. I grew up in Montevallo and am so thankful to be able to work with this great community.

I have so many fun activities planned for our students. In ESL we will be working on our four language domains – speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will practice their writing and speaking skills on a program called Flashlight 360. Each week after completing assignments, students will receive prompt feedback. We will set goals and track our progress quarterly.

In yearbook, students will acquire skills in journalism, photography, design, and layout. Students will use eDesign to create the 2023-2024 yearbook. They will have opportunities to interview their peers and teachers, photograph school events, and write articles. Being in yearbook is a great opportunity for students to see if mass communication is something they would be interested in studying in the future.

¡Bienvenidos a ESL y Yearbook!

Lamento no estar en Open House. Actualmente me estoy recuperando de la cirugía y no puedo esperar a volver a la escuela. Este será mi sexto año enseñando en Montevallo Middle School. Crecí en Montevallo y estoy muy agradecida de poder trabajar con esta gran comunidad.

Tengo muchas actividades divertidas planeadas para nuestros estudiantes. En ESL trabajaremos en nuestros cuatro dominios del idioma: hablar, escuchar, leer y escribir. Los estudiantes practicarán sus habilidades de escritura y expresión oral en un programa llamado Flashlight 360. Cada semana, después de completar las tareas, los estudiantes recibirán comentarios acerca de su desempeño. Estableceremos objetivos y estaremos observando su progreso cada nueve semanas.

En Yearbook, los estudiantes adquirirán habilidades en periodismo, fotografía, y diseño. Los estudiantes utilizarán eDesign para crear el anuario 2023-2024. Tendrán oportunidades de entrevistar a sus compañeros y maestros, fotografiar eventos escolares y escribir artículos. Estar en Yearbook es una gran oportunidad para que los estudiantes vean si la comunicación de masas es algo que les interesaría estudiar en el futuro.

I am so happy to be able to teach English as a Second Language at Montevallo Middle School! This year we will be using Everyday English Plus during fifth period and Language Live during sixth and seventh period to develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

With Language Live students will be able to work on reading skills specific to their needs. Language Live combines teacher directed learning and adaptive online instruction.

Everyday English Plus is a program for students who are newcomers to the English language. Students will gain skills to develop oral language proficiency and content knowledge.
