MHS News 1/31/2017

Be sure to turn in your December and January community service hours in to Mrs. Glover this week.

Are you junior with a minimum 25 ACT score and a desire to participate in an academically stimulating residential program? If so, you could be a candidate for nomination for Alabama Governor’s School this summer. Interested students should see Ms Allen.

The Montevallo Day of Pageants will be held Saturday, Feb. 11. All entry forms and payments must be turned in by Friday, February 3rd. All girls and boys in grades 9-12 may participate. Applications available in the main office.

Yearbooks on sale for $50.00. Only 65 available. See Mrs. Adams to purchase Sr. yearbook ads are due February 15 to Mrs. Adams. You may pick up an ad form from Mrs. Adams or the main office.

The Coupons for Classrooms coupon book fundraiser on sale now. This is a fantastic book features over $3,500 in valuable coupon offers with over 160 popular participating merchants! The cost of the book is only $25, which includes a code to download the app and have your coupons on your phone! See Mrs. McCaleb or any MHS News team member to purchase. Books will be on sale through February 15.

Attention Juniors: We now have the opportunity to offer free online ACT prep for students. It is a great tool for you to use at home or at school as you prepare for the ACT. If you would like to have a personal account set up, please sign the registration form outside the Guidance Office this week.

Seniors-if you are planning on going to Six Flags your $30 deposit and permission slip is due by Friday at 3. The permission slip is on the Senior Google Classroom.

CHESS NIGHT will be held at Montevallo Elementary School tonight from 4-6:00 pm in the Cafeteria. All community members, beginners to advanced players of all ages are welcome. There will be sections for the various levels of chess with guidance in each area. All Montevallo schools are involved: MES, MMS, MHS, and UM.

*Students: If you took the PSAT and did not meet with Ms. Allen during GPS this week, you may get your score reports during your lunch wave Today. Remember to visit her table.

*Congratulations to the girls and boys basketball team for a great win over their rival team Calera last night. Both teams will play tomorrow starting @5:00 with the girls and 6:30 with the boys. Pep Club members get in free. Come out and support your
dawgs.

*Please support the MHS Model United Nations Team this Saturday by grocery shopping at Lucky’s this Saturday! The team will be bagging groceries for tips and donations this Saturday, February 28 from 9am to 12pm at Lucky’s Grocery Store. All
donations go towards the costs of their Model United Nations Conference at the University of Alabama.

*The WorkKeys assessment will be administered to all seniors today and tomorrow. Seniors should check outside Mrs. Pastor’s door for your test date and assigned lab location. Teachers have received WorkKeys info via email. Bells will be off
*All physical permission forms and $10 should be turned in this morning to Coach Wilcox.

You can participate on Jan. 21 or Jan. 22 in Homewood and you get a free t-shirt! See Ms. Allen today if you are interested.

If you are interested in becoming the next Mr. or Miss MHS please come by the office and get an entry form or see Mrs. McCaleb in room 201. All entry forms and payments must be turned in by Friday, February 3rd. All girls and boys in grades 9-12 may participate.
*The Winter Formal ticket money will collected today& tomorrow at lunch this week.
*Attention Students: MHS will administer the ASVAB for interested 10th, 11th, & 12th grade students on Jan. 19. The ASVAB is a great career assessment for any student, but it is required for students interested in a military career. Interested students should see Ms. Allen.
*The MHS cheerleaders are selling t-shirts for a fundraiser. The shirts are royal blue and will say MHS on the front. They are available in short and long sleeve. The short sleeve will be sold for $15 and the long sleeve for $22. Please see Ms. Ward Ms. Ward or a cheerleader to purchase one.

*The Shelby County Poetry Players and Poetry Out Loud state competitors will meet after school Thursday from 3-4:00 P.M. in Mrs. Hinton’s room.
*Big Brothers and Big Sisters will not be meeting today.
