Happy Birthday:

*Our Scholastic Book Fair continues today and runs through Friday, March 3rd.   Be sure to bring cash or a check made out to MMS.

*Hoops for Hearts will be playing today during PE class.

*Tennis will have a match against Eastwood Middle.

*Today Softball has a game in Calera at 5pm and Baseball will have an away game in Maplesville at 4:30pm unless the rain cancels the game.

*Please continue to turn in box tops.  Mrs. Snyder is mailing some off on Wednesday, March 1st.  Remember for every 10 you turn in, you can earn free tardy to class passes.

*Friday will be break schedule so make sure that you don’t have any tardies or silent lunches this week.

*Today will be COTS and Team Pictures for the Yearbook.  Please listen for the name of your group to be called and come quickly for the picture and then return to class quickly.

*Our Scholastic Book Fair starts today and runs through Friday, March 3rd.  You will come to the library with your ELA teacher starting today.  Be sure to bring cash or a check made out to MMS.

*Anyone interested in the American Heart Association and participating in Hoops for Heart needs to see Coach Jett or Coach Horton for a form.  The Hoops for Heart celebration will be tomorrow in the gym during P.E.

*Please continue to turn in box tops.  Mrs. Snyder is mailing some off on Wednesday, March 1st.  Remember for every 10 you turn in, you can earn free tardy to class passes.

*There will be soccer game today at Prattville Christian.

*Congratulations to the student of the week: Takhishlyn Farrington. She was nominated by Mrs. Lewis. Mrs. Lewis stated that Takhishlyn demonstrated the character trait of respecting the environment and taking care of the school by picking up trash in the hallway without being asked. She also played the role of peacemaker when she tried to stop two girls from arguing and fighting

This Weeks Announcements

*Monday will be COTS and Team Pictures for the Yearbook.  Your child may need to bring a team uniform to school for the pictures.  MMS Ambassadors and Peer Helpers will wear their T-shirts on Monday.

*Our Scholastic Book Fair starts Monday, February 27th, and runs through Friday, March 3rd.  Your child will come to the library with his English Language Arts teacher on Monday.  Please send cash or a check made out to MMS, if you would like your student to purchase something.  For every book they buy, their name will go into a drawing to win $25 of free products from the Book Fair. All proceeds benefit the MMS library!

*Thursday, March 2nd, Tennis will have a match against Helena at UM at 4:00 pm and Soccer will play at Calera at 5:30 pm.  The Baseball team will play at Clanton at 4:00 pm.

*All 8th grade students must turn in their blue class registration forms for MHS next year by this week (if they haven’t already) or they will not get a chance to pick the classes that they want for high school.

 

UPCOMING EVENTS:

*Friday, March 10th, will be a Teacher workday,  so there will be no school for students.

*The Shelby County Math tournament will be on Friday, March 17th.

*MMS Archery students will be competing in the Regional tournament on Thursday, March 16th.

*Report cards will be going home on Friday, March 17th.

*Spring Break will be the week of March 27-March 31.

*Aspire Testing begins for 6th graders April 12th and 13th.  7th and 8th graders will test the following week so please do not make doctor’s visits during this time as students must be at school to test.

*Thanks to the P.T.O for providing the teachers and staff with snacks and pizza last week.  It was much appreciated.

*Congratulations to the student of the week for the week:  Balen Key

*Congratulations to the 8th grade Scholar’s Bowl Team for taking 1st place in the Shelby County Scholar’s Bowl Competition.  William Landers placed 3rd in the Individual All Around. The team will be attending the National competition in New Orleans in May.

*Congratulations to Janie Gray who won the Outstanding Girl Delegate at the recent JUNA competition.

*The University of Montevallo offers a Free Community Counseling Program (ages 5-adult) that is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 pm at the Wallace Center on the UM Campus.  Call Mrs. Lusco at MMS if you have any questions.

*Shelby County Schools in partnership with Alabama Power are sponsoring a Girl’s Can Camp for 8th, 9th, and 10th grade girls interested in construction or engineering in June.  Applications are due by April 17th.  Any girl interested can get an application from Mrs. Fenn-Lusco at MMS or Mrs. Allen at MHS.

*Monday will be COTS and Team Pictures for the Yearbook.  Ambassadors please wear your shirts.  If any other groups have shirts or uniforms make sure that you wear them Monday or bring them to school to change into for the pictures.

*Attention 8th graders:  Mrs. Allen will be here today in your social studies classes to discuss high school registration for next year.  Make sure that you do not lose the forms that she gives you.  You will turn them in next week with your parents and teacher’s signatures on them.
