Daily Announcement 11/30/2018

*Birthdays: Kamia Hudson, Trevor Sanders, and Kennedy Reasor

*Announcements:

* Today we will be on an activity schedule for COTS.

*Any student that is interested in trying out for the archery team needs to see Coach Jett for a packet.  8th graders need to return the packet and be ready for try-outs on Monday, Dec. 3 during 4th period.  You will report to the gym and eat lunch with the coaches.  7th graders will try out on next Thursday during lunch and 6th graders on next Friday

*There will be a Christmas Dance on December 14th during the school day. COTS groups will also need to plan their Christmas parties for that day.

*The MMS and MHS bands will be performing their holiday concert on Monday, December 3 at 6:30pm at the MHS Performing Arts Center. Admission is free. Come enjoy Christmas favorites to kick off the holiday season!

*If you had a make up picture done, orders are due back today.

*Monday the basketball team will play at Bibb County.

*The Lady Dawgs DOMINATED the Panthers last night at Jemison 46-9.  The team was led by Teasia Purnell with 10, Hannah Locks and Paige Johnson each added 8, Tabatha Thomas scored 6, and 3 players contributed 4 each – Aliesjha Silas, Camille Holmes and Keniya Simpson for a total team victory!

Way to go ladies.  The BULLDOGS play again in their last AWAY game on Monday in Centreville.

*FBLA/FCCLA members will be on a field trip tomorrow. Permission forms and money must be turned into Mrs. Thomas by the end of the day today. You must also bring $10 for lunch tomorrow.

*Soccer conditioning will continue this today  and Thursday until 4:30pm.

*Congratulations to the student of the week:  Abbigail Bryant.  She was nominated by Ms. Moore.  Ms. Moore states that Abbigail demonstrates the character traits of caring and responsibility.  She straightens up Ms. Moore’s room everyday at the end of the day without being prompted. Ms. Moore appreciates having Abbigail in her class.

*FBLA/FCCLA members, touch base with Mrs. Thomas/ Mrs. Day TODAY if you plan on going on the field trip.

*Students do not leave any food in your lockers over the Thanksgiving Break. Teachers do not leave any trash in your classrooms over the holidays.

*As a fundraiser, MMS is selling Priester’s Pecans. Money and order forms are due on November 26th.

* Congratulations to the lady dawgs for breaking a school record scoring a shut out game of 42-0 last night as they improved their record to 4 and 0.  Teasia Purnell led all scorers with 14, Camille Holmes added 7, Hannah Locks and Tabatha Thomas both scored 5 and Paige Johnson and Siara Kennedy both chipped in 4 for a total team victory.  The boys also defeated West Blocton 53-34.  Both teams have one more game on the road on Thursday, Nov. 29 vs. Jemison.  So, get ready to come support the basketball teams as they start playing their home games in December.  Way to Go Dawgs!!!

*Congratulations to the student of the week: Teasia Purnell. She was nominated by Coach Jett.  Coach Jett states that Teasia has shown tremendous leadership both in volleyball and in basketball by keeping her peers motivated. She shows a lot of school pride. She also took initiative by picking up trash around the school without being prompted by an adult.

*8th grade Scholar’s Bowl Team will meet every morning Mon-Thur in Lab 28 from 7:00-7:30 am starting Tuesday.  6th and 7th Grade Scholars Bowl will meet on Wednesdays after school.

*Today is the last day to turn in any canned goods or toiletry items for Oak Mountain Missions.

*The playoff game at the high school tonight is “Black Out Andulusia”. Students are encouraged to wear black. In order to avoid long lines, the AHSAA has chosen to make tickets available online through GoFan for this week’s game at http://gofan.us/d17fb9

*There will be a home basketball game on Tuesday night against Jemison.

*Congratulations to the 8th grade who donated the most canned goods to the Oak Mountain Missions.  They will receive open seating at lunch today. The two student who brought in the most canned goods was Emily Pennington and Kelston Hodges.  She will receive a free slushie.

*CONGRATULATIONS to BOTH BULLDOG teams again for their victories against Columbiana last night. The boys won 34-26. The girls defeated the wildcats 33-20. Teasia Purnell led all scorers with 8, Paige Johnson was next with 7, followed by Siarra Kennedy with 6 and Hannah Locks with 5. Camille Holmes also scored 4 and Keniya Simpson chipped in 3 for the lady dawgs. Both teams will play again next Wednesday at Rudd. Way to go!

*Today at the beginning of 4th period, there will be a brief informational meeting in the library about Book Olympiad.  Only those who signed up on the list in the library should attend.  4th period teachers, I have emailed you a list of students. Coming to the meeting does not commit you to being a part of the team.  If you have already signed up on the list in the library, come to the Book Olympiad interest meeting at the beginning of 4th period, find out more about it, and see if its a good fit for you.
