Daily Announcement 04 15 2019

*Birthdays: Today to Grey Williams and yesterday to Timothy Waters

* This Friday will be COTS

*Testing begins tomorrow for 7th and 8th grade.  7th grade Science and 8th grade Reading.  The bells will be off for the day.  7th and 8th grade will hold their 3rd periods until 11:10. 6th grade will eat lunch first.  Students must be quiet in all the hallways as we are testing everywhere in the building. Students may NOT bring a cell phone or smart watch into a testing room. Please do not bring any books to the testing room. Students must get their 1st through 3rd period books and materials and then 5th and 6th period materials out of their lockers so we don’t have kids at the lockers except 4th or 7th period. If you do not know where you are testing, ask one of your teachers or check the lists outside their doors. 6th grade will test next week.

*Girls will begin after school work-outs tomorrow from 3 – 5 for both volleyball and basketball.  There will be a parent meeting for volleyball and girl’s basketball players on Tuesday, April 23rd at 5pm here at MMS. See Coach Jett if you have any questions.

*FCCLA is sponsoring, “Cookies for COTS” this week. FCCLA members will be taking pre-orders for three kinds of cookies in the Cafeteria this week during 4th period. You can order 2 cookies for $1.00 and they will be delivered to you during COTS on Friday.  Chocolate Chip, White Chocolate and Macadamia Nut, and Sugar cookies can be ordered. Be sure to visit the order table in the Cafeteria before Friday so you can have a sweet treat during COTS.

*Talent Show applications are now available. They can be picked up in the choir room between classes.

*This is the last week to bring in your gently used books for the Peer Helper’s book drive. It ends on Friday. Make sure that your name is on the books that you donate and either leave them in one of the boxes or bring them to Mrs. Day’s room.

*Soccer has a game today at Calera and there is a track meet today in Pelham.

*Basketball tryouts for Montevallo Middle School Boy’s basketball (current 6th & 7th graders) for the 2019-20 season will be on Monday, April 29 and Tuesday April 30, 2019 from 4:00-5:30 at the Montevallo Middle School gym.  Tryout packets must be picked up from Coach Horton AND turned in by Friday, April 22, 2019 to try out.  You must have a current PHYSICAL to tryout.  No late signees or excuses will be accepted.”

* 8th graders who will be upcoming 9th graders, boys basketball tryouts will be Thursday, May 1 and Friday May 2 at Montevallo High School.”

*It’s not too late to get your yearbook for $30.00.

*Don’t forget the Girls Can Construction Applications are due this Friday for the summer program.

*Cheerleaders are now selling these items: -Bertelone’s whole cake vouchers for $30 just in time for Easter, Scentsy smell goods- Just in time for Spring cleaning and Mother’s Day, and Wristbands that say “We are Montevallo” for $2.00.  See a cheerleader or Mrs. Campbell for more information. *Congratulations to the student of the week:  Jeimy Peraza.  She was nominated by Coach Jett.  Coach Jett states that Jeimy exhibited the character trait of Respecting the Environment when she took it upon herself to pick up trash while walking on the track.

*Girls will begin after school work-outs on Tuesday from 3 – 5 for both volleyball and basketball.  There will be a parent meeting for volleyball and girl’s basketball players on Tuesday, April 23rd at 5pm here at MMS. See Coach Jett if you have any questions.

So please bring in your gently used books for the little children before the drive ends next Friday. Make sure that your name is on the books that you donate and either leave them in one of the boxes or bring them to Mrs. Day’s room. If you don’t have books, you can drop off money to buy books. A donation of two books or $2.00 is a tardy to class pass.  A donation of $3.00 or $3.00 is a homework pass to a class of your choice and  donation of 5 books or $5.00 your name goes on the the No Break List to Break for May’s Break. A donation of 10 books or $10.00 gets you free time in the gym, a tardy to class pass, a homework pass, and the get off the no break list.

*Yearbooks are on sale today for $30.00. They go up to $35.00 next month.

*The 15th annual Keith Adair Memorial Farm Day will be tomorrow at Orr Park from 10am-2pm.  There will be many things to see and do like an Easter Egg Hunt, live music, a tractor/car show, petting zoo, and other activities. It is free admission.

*Next week is state testing for 7th and 8th grade.  Please be here at school and be on time.  No cell phones will be allowed in the testing rooms. *All FCCLA members need to report to Mrs. Day’s room at the beginning of 4th period today for a short meeting.

From April 8-19, you can bring in new or gently used children’s books to donate. Go through your books at home and bring some that you have outgrown. If you can’t bring a book, then you can donate money and the peer helpers will shop for new books to donate for you. Please put your books in the marked boxes around school. You may bring your money to Mrs. Day in the Media Center each morning before school or to her room during first period or anytime afterwards. Make sure your name is on a piece of paper attached to the books or money you give so you will be eligible for the following prizes:
