It’s now time to recognize our faculty member of the month! The February Faculty/Staff of the Month is……. Mrs. Cissy Johnson!

Information about Mrs. Johnson: Cissy Johnson has been teaching for 26 years, 5 of those at MMS/MHS. She teaches choir and music appreciation at both schools. In those five years, she has been able to secure $46,500 in grants for the program. This year, she is working with our students to produce what we think is our first ever musical. Mrs. Johnson says that car rider is one of her favorite things she does at MMS because she gets to know some students that she does not teach. . . and hang out with the Family Feud star – “Stewart.”

Black History Fact for Today:  Martin Luther King, Jr., original name Michael King, Jr., (born January 15, 1929, died April 4, 1968), was a Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. His leadership was fundamental to that movement’s success in ending the legal segregation of African Americans in the South and other parts of the United States. 

As Black History Month comes to a close, let’s share what we’ve learned and continue to Self-educate ourselves, as well as celebrate the contributions made by Black Americans.  In the words of an Old African Proverb, “Each One Teach One Until All Are Taught”.
