Happy Birthday: Stiven Martinez

Announcements:

*High School Basketball tryouts for current 8^th grade boys will start today and continue through tomorrow after school until 5:30pm at the MHS gym. You must have a current physical on file to try out.

*MMS Football tryouts will begin today and last throughout the week. See Coach Horton for details. You must be at tryouts to be on the team next year.

*This Friday will be COTS so make sure that you have all of your work turned in so that you do not have to attend Intervention COTS.

*Upward Bound will be meeting with all 8^th graders on Thursday at 2pm in the cafeteria.

*LOT will be on their last field trip tomorrow.

*The MMS, MHS, and Montevallo Chorale will be performing a concert this Thursday night at 7:30pm at the Le Baron Recital Hall at the University of Montevallo.

*On Friday the 8^th graders will be going to the High School for their orientation meetings.

*Congratulations to the student of the week:  Robert Kincaid. Mrs. Moore and Ms. Pressley state that Robert has done very well in school this year, been an advocate for himself, and represented the MMS track team very well.  He also did a fantastic job on his student led conference.

Students not testing will need to be quiet in the hallways during passing periods, get their books for the first three periods, and there will be no bells in the morning.

Chaniya Reed.  She was nominated by Mrs. Colley.  Mrs. Colley states that Chaniya is always willing to do anything that is asked of her with a willing spirit and a smile on her face.  She is a diligent student and represents MMS well in athletics and other activities.

*Congratulations to Evan Zou and Taylor Edwards for being recognized at the Shelby County Career and Technology Banquet.  Evan represented FBLA and Taylor represented FCCLA.

*Congratulations to Aiyana Race and Janie Gray for qualifying for state recognition for the Duke Talent Search.  They took the ACT test as 7^th graders and their scores qualified them for this honor.

Montevallo Methodist Preschool is conducting the 2016/2017 school year registration for the 3 and 4 year old classes.  Registration applications for the 2 year class will also be accepted.  School hours are 8:30am to 12:00pm.  The 4 year old class meets Monday through Friday.  The 3 year old class meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  The 2 year old class will likely meet on Tuesday and Thursday.   You can pick up registration forms at the school Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 12:00, please call the Director to schedule a time, 665-1256.  Or you may visit the website to access the registration form – https://mmpschool234.wordpress.com/parental-info/.    Please call or email the Director if you have any questions, mmpreschool@yahoo.com

* 7^th grade students will test with Aspire this week so do not be absent.  Testing will occur in the morning before lunch.  8^th grade will test the next Monday and Tuesday. There will be no cell phones, smart watches, or other electronic allowed in the testing rooms. Students not testing will need to be quiet in the hallways during passing periods, get their books for the first three periods,  and there will be no bells in the morning.

*The final home baseball game is tonight against West Blocton.

*6^th graders going on the field trip on Friday to the Space and Rocket center in Huntsville need to be here at 6:00am.  The bus will pull out at exactly 6:15am.  Parents need to pick you up between 5:15pm and 5:45pm.  Remember that if you bring an electronic device, the school is not responsible if it is lost or damaged.

*Please do not schedule any doctor’s appointments or out of town trips during Aspire testing.  Testing will be in the mornings only until lunchtime.  6^th Grade Testing will be on Monday, April 11^th and Tuesday, April 12^th.  7^th Grade Testing will be on April 13^th, 14^th, and 15^th.  8^th Grade testing will be on April 18^th and 19^th.

*Please be aware that cell phones or any device that makes noise or has the capability of photography is not allowed in the testing rooms. Any student caught with a cell phone in the testing room will have their phone confiscated and possibly sent to the state department for evidence of cheating.  The child’s test can be invalidated as well. All cell phones should be kept in the student’s lockers during testing.

*It is a current school policy that all Apple Watches or any other watches that are capable of getting on the Internet are banned from school.  Students should leave these devices at home during the school day.

*6^th Graders will be attending the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville on Friday, April 15^th.  Remember that your child needs to be at the school at 6am. The bus will pull out at exactly 6:15am.  If your child brings a cell phone or other electronic device on the bus, it will be his or her responsibility to keep up with it.  The school will not be liable for lost or damaged items. You will need to pick up your child between 5:15 and 5:30 that evening.

*There will be a community chess night for students and parents on Monday, April 18^th at the Montevallo High School Library from 4-6pm.

*Attention 8^th Grade Parents:  Your child is fast approaching the end of his middle school years! He or she will soon begin a new era of his or her life – high school. We are asking MMS eighth grade parents to come together and help plan a grand send off for our students. In the past, the teachers have organized an eighth grade banquet as a celebration. This year’s students are asking for a cookout rather than a banquet.  If you are willing and able to help plan this event, please meet in the school’s media center on Monday, April 18, at 5:00 pm.

*Congratulations to the Chess Team who had a successful tournament this past Saturday. MMS took first place overall. Individual medals went to Cody Curl, Jeffery Green, Evan Zou, and Grayson Fulmer.

*Congratulations to Miranda Martin. Her Science Fair Project won the following awards at The Alabama State Science Fair at the University of Alabama at Huntsville: The Toyota Outstanding Project Award as well as   Second Place in the Math and Computer Science division. She also received a nomination

•   for the 2016 Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars), a program of the Society for Science and the Public. This extraordinary achievement is only awarded to the top 10% of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade participants at the SSP-AFFILIATED SCIENCE FAIR
