*Tomorrow we will be on break schedule

*There is no soccer practice today

*There is an FBLA meeting today at 11:30 with Ms Thomas

* 6th and 7th grade students will test with Aspire next week so do not be absent.  Testing will occur in the morning before lunch.  8th grade will test the following week. There will be no cell phones, smart watches, or other electronic allowed in the testing rooms.

 

*Attention all students. MMS is having a talent show this year and if you want to be a part of it, you must audition. There is a sign-up sheet for the MMS Talent Show Auditions posted outside the Band/Choir Room door. Auditions will be on Friday, April 22nd all day in the Band/Choir Room. You must pay $5 per person to audition on April 22nd. Groups must sign up each member. We are looking for all talent! (Singing, Dancing, Poetry, Art displays, Plays, Skits, Instrument playing etc)

*Scholar’s Bowl will meet this afternoon for practice

*Friday will be break so make sure that you do not have any tardies or silent lunches this week.

*Volleyball try-outs for 6th and 7th grade girls will begin today after school.   All girls interested in trying out must have a consent form and current physical in order to stay.

*The Cheerleaders are selling Gi Gi’s Cupcakes as a fundraiser.  The orders need to be placed today and the cupcakes will be delivered the following week.  See a MMS Cheerleader to place an order.

*The Baseball team has a game today at home against Centerville at 4pm

*Congratulations to the student of the week:  Jaxon Butterworth.  He was nominated by Mrs. Burns.  Mrs. Burns states that Jaxon demonstrated the character trait of responsibility when he quickly saw that a student had dropped a cell phone in morning drop off and he stopped the cars to keep the phone from getting run over.  The phone was returned to the student with no damage.

*Congratulations to the Chess Team who had a successful tournament on Saturday. MMS took first place overall. Individual medals went to Cody Curl, Jeffery Green, Evan Zou, and Grayson Fulmer.

*Congratulations to Miranda Martin. Her Science Fair Project won the following awards at The Alabama State Science Fair at the University of Alabama at Huntsville.

  • Second Place in the Math and Computer Science division
  • Nomination for 2016 for 2016 Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars), a program of the Society for Science and the Public. This extraordinary achievement is only awarded to the top 10% of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade participants at the SSP-AFFILIATED SCIENCE FAIR

*There will be no school next week due to Spring Break.

*Please do not schedule any doctor’s appointments or out of town trips during Aspire testing.  Testing will be in the mornings only until lunchtime.  6th Grade Testing will be on April 11th and 12th.  7th Grade Testing will be on April 13th, 14th, and 15th.  8th Grade testing will be on April 18th and 19th.

*Please be aware that cell phones or any device that makes noise or has the capability of photography is not allowed in the testing rooms. Any student caught with a cell phone in the testing room will have their phone confiscated and possibly sent to the state department for evidence of cheating.  The child’s test can be invalidated as well. All cell phones should be kept in the student’s lockers during testing.

*It is a current school policy that all Apple Watches or any other watches that are capable of getting on the Internet are banned from school.  Students should leave these devices at home during the school day.

*The Central Alabama Food Bank will be at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club on Thursday April 31st beginning at 8:30am even though this is during Spring Break.

*Congratulations to the MMS Math teams in their competition this week.  The 8th Grade Pre Algebra team won 3rd place overall.  Vicki Zou came in 3rd place in the individual competition for the 6th grade team.

*Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade Scholar’s Bowl teams who were invited to compete in the National Scholar’s Bowl Tournament in New Orleans at the end of May.

*Congratulations to the 2016-2017 MMS Cheerleaders:  Jaden Moody, McKenna Dubose, Morgan Honeycutt, Allie Honeycutt, Asya Sanders, McKenzie Payton, and Kali Yancy

*Congratulations to Miranda Martin for placing 1st in the Central Alabama Regional Science Fair in the Math and Computer Science division and is being invited to compete in the state competition.

*Congratulations to the Lady Dawg’s tennis team.  Bella lost a close singles matches against Chelsea 6 – 5  but rallied to win the doubles match  with Emily Anne 6 to 1 .  The team also did a great job against Hueytown where Bella dominated her singles match 6-0 and she and Emily Anne also took the doubles match 6 – 1.  The girls will play their last match of the season vs. both Southview of Tuscaloosa and a Montgomery team.  The tri-match will take place at UM and start at 2pm.  Please come out and support the lady dawgs.

*Congratulations to Vicki Zou for placing third in the individual competition at the county math tournament yesterday.  Also the 8th grade Pre Algebra Team placed third overall in the county. All of the math teams did well yesterday.  Way to go MMS Math Teams!
