DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

*Report cards will be given out on Friday

*Math team will practice Wednesday (today) and Friday this week

*The Student Institute Group will be on a field trip today

*The Archery team will compete today

*Scholar’s Bowl Practice will be today after school.  Remember the parent meeting at 4:15pm to discuss the trip to nationals.

*Friday morning at 10:40 the high school football coach (Mr. Wilcox) will meet with all 8th grade boys interested in trying out for high school football next year.

* We want to congratulate the tennis girls on a good game against Helena yesterday.  Although all our girls played much better, Helena won all of the singles matches.  Bella Fancher and Emily Anne Smith did win their doubles match 6 to 1. The team plays a tri-match on Monday at Greystone against Chelsea and Hueytown.  Go lady dawgs!!!

*Baseball has an away game today against Martin at 4pm

*The Soccer Team plays in Helena today with the girls playing at 5pm and the Boys playing at 7pm

*Tennis plays Helena MS at Riverchase this afternoon

*The final Student Institute Group field trip will be this Wednesday March 16th. Participants will check with their teachers for any make up work for that day.  Don’t bring a lunch as one will be provided for you.

*The Archery team will compete this Wednesday.  Wish them good luck.

 *LOT members don’t forget about the City Council Meeting tonight.

*Report cards will be given out on Friday

*The girls tennis team has played two matches so far- one against Helena where Bella and Emily Anne won their doubles match, but all the players fell short in their singles games.  The girls also suffered losses against Westminster on Friday, but played hard against a very good team.  The team will play again on Tuesday at Riverchase Country Club vs. Helena and then finish their season the following week with a tri-match against Chelsea AWAY on Monday and a tri-match against Tuscaloosa and Montgomery teams at the UM courts on Wednesday.  Come out and support your Lady Dawgs.

*Congratulations to the student of the week:  Margarita Ayala.  She was nominated by Ms. Green.  Ms. Green states that Margarita has exhibited the character trait of perseverance.  She has worked very hard this year in both her schoolwork and in her compassion towards her fellow students.

 Tomorrow there will be no school for students. It is  a teacher workday

  • Today is the last day of the 9 weeks so make sure that you get all of your makeup work turned into your teachers.

 *8th Grade math team will meet today after school instead of Friday because of the student holiday tomorrow

*7th and 8th grade Scholar’s Bowl Team will meet today after school

*There will be an away baseball game in Thorsby at 4pm

*No soccer practice today. The girls soccer game has been cancelled and will be rescheduled. The GIRLS soccer team will practice at the stadium at 9:30 on Saturday.

*Tennis will have a match tomorrow at Westminister

  • This week is “National School Breakfast Week”. Anyone who eats breakfast in the Cafeteria, all 4 days, Mon-Thurs this week will be in the drawing to win one of 5 – $15.00 itunes gift cards we will be giving away Thursday afternoon. You have to eat all 4 days to be eligible!!

 Congratulations to the student of the week: Olivia Gilbert.  She was nominated by Mrs. Nelson.  Nelson states that Olivia demonstrated the character traits of service and compassion by bringing extra poster boards to school and giving them to students who needed one.

  • Congratulations to Evan Zou, Dylan Snider, and Alexandria Hays who won individual medals at the Chess Tournament this past Saturday. Overall MMS won 2nd place in the team competition.
  • Congratulations to Miranda Martin who won 1st place in her division- Computers and Mathematics at the Science Fair on Saturday. This qualifies her project to go to the state competition at the end of the month.
  • Congratulations to the Baseball team on their win Saturday 14-5.

*Tennis will have match today at UM against Helena.

*The track team had a great first meet at Pelham, and all of the athletes did a fantastic job.  Rankin Allen won 1st place in the discus and placed 4th in the shot put.    Jazmine Fitts placed 2nd in the shot put.  Ayianna Race placed 2nd overall in the 300 meter hurdles and Amari King placed 4th.  Davion Gilbert, Isa Harris, and Tanijah Summerlin also had fantastic performances in the 100 and 200 meter races, and Ruston Conn had a great performance in the 800 meter and the mile run.

*Please keep collecting Box Tops for Education.  For every 10 that you turn in, you will receive a tardy to class pass.  Teachers will receive a jean stickers for every 10.  The deadline is Monday, Feb 29th.

*Congratulations to the student of the week:  Vanessa Avalos.  She was nominated by Ms. Hamilton and Ms Green.  Vanessa has exhibited the character traits of service and compassion by helping out other students.  She is also a model student with work ethic and behavior.
