FBLA Update for 2.14.2018

Happy Valentine's Day!

We have been asked if we would like to work the concession stand during the dodge ball tournament next week.  Please complete this form if you are willing to work after school until about 4:30 on Feb. 22nd.  We really only need about five or six members.  I MUST know by the end of the day Thursday (2/15).

Try the form again if you tried earlier.
I have now corrected the setting.  Concession Stand Sign-up

CAR WASH - for March of Dimes - Update
We had 8 of our 25 members complete the form about the car wash.  Only 7 of our members have agreed to sell coupons.  I am not sure at this time if we should pursue the fundraiser to sell tickets.  However, there might be another option to raise funds without having to sell the tickets.  I will update you at the next meeting.

COMPETITION Sign-up - Update
The following signed-up for competition:
Carson
Silas
Michael
Khaled
Niya
Makayla

Please see me immediately to plan for the competition or let me know if the list is incorrect.

Update - 2.5.2018

I want to remind you to go to the FBLA blog to complete the form about the car wash sale and competition.  Only three have completed the forms.

Right now we have two members who said they would sell car wash tickets.  If we do not have more participation than that we will not have the sale.

We took our club photo at the last meeting (last week during advisory).  If you were absent and missed the photo, I will try to call for you tomorrow during advisory or before school to snap a photo of you, so you can be included in the yearbook.

Our next meeting will take place after school probably next Wednesday (2/14), but listen to the memo and watch for a note from me confirming the day and time.

Complete these forms before the 1.30.2018 meeting.

RE:        Club updates & next meeting

Greetings FBLA Members!

I am sure you are wondering when we will meet again.  Between holidays, weather days, illness, and field trips we seem to be having trouble coming up with a time to meet.

As of this writing we are planning to meet next Tuesday, January 30th during advisory.  You will receive your club t-shirt and we will take our official club photo for the yearbook.  Please try to be here that day and be on time to advisory.  We will probably meet in the cafeteria.  Your club shirt is dark blue.  If you did not order a shirt try to wear school colors or dark blue.  We will not take a make-up photo.

After the sign-in and photo we will briefly discuss competition plans, the car wash sale, and other possible activities.

By the time you receive this today I hope to have updated the FBLA blog with two forms.  Please complete them before Tuesday.

  • Regarding the car wash sale to benefit the March of Dimes and the fight against birth defects - We need to know who seriously plans to participate in the sale of the tickets. If we do not have enough members willing to participate we will not do the sale.
  • Competition plans - asking you about your plans for competition.

Sign-up deadline has now passed.

Time to sign-up for FBLA.

12.6.2017 - FBLA News

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, December 13th beginning during advisory and continuing after school until 4:00 (not 4:15) Please have parents pick you up at the end of C hall under the bus canopy.  Members of the food committee will be contacting you to see what you plan to contribute the the party, which will be held that day.

Be sure to bring the party items you committed to bring.  I suggest students bring a soda in a bottle or can in case there are not enough drinks.  We are not wanting cups and ice - - only bring individual serving sized bottles or cans, please.  Students may drop them by my room before school and place their name on them.  I will keep them cool until the party.

Parents should pick-up at the end of C-hall near the gym, so I can make sure you have been picked-up safely before leaving myself.

Students who have athletic commitments should not miss practice because of our meeting.  They can stop by my room or check the blog to see what they missed in the meeting.

Our main topic for the meeting (after the party) will be plans for competition.

Party items should be brought to my room before school.  Any items delivered to school during the day should be marked for FBLA.

Also, please note, while I do try to send out individualized reminders about our meetings and events, I am not able to do it all the time.  Continue to check the blog for updates to be sure you do not miss anything.

Meeting Update - 11.16.2017

Our last meeting was held during advisory on 10.25.2017.  The only goal of the meeting was to provide time for students to work on their FBLA sweatpants sale poster.  It was not technically a meeting as much as it was a work event.

All members should have created a sign promoting the sale of the sweatpants.  All this information was shared with you in your school email.  Refer to your email weekly as the blog is not always the best way to share all our information.

We will meet during advisory on Thursday, 11.16.2017 to tally sweatpants sales and fill any orders we can from existing stock.  We will also discuss plans for our Christmas party.  Those on the food committee need to meet and plan for this event and discuss with Mrs. Graham.

Fundraiser opportunity to raise money for the March of Dimes (or another charity).

We have the opportunity to raise money by running the concession stand during the dodge ball tournament on the 26th.  Discuss this with your parents before signing-up.  Click here for the form.

If you are participating in the tournament you will not be able to help with the concession stand.

If you find out you will not be able to participate after all come back to this form to change your response (in other words, let me know by updating your response to the form).  We will only need a limited number of people.  People who sign-up first will have dibs on working.  I will let you know if you will be working.

 1.11.2017 FBLA Update

Our next meeting will be during advisory next Wednesday (Jan. 18th).  We will be taking our photo for the yearbook.  Remember to wear your t-shirt if your ordered one.  Or, you can wear something yellowish/gold.  Our official shirts are gold this year.  Don't worry about going to get a special shirt if you don't have one the same color.  A mostly plain shirt without large company logos or designs would be better.

We will be discussing upcoming competitions.  Be prepared to sign-up if you are interested.

We have begun selling our sweatpants again.  We need our sales committee to create a few signs advertising the sale.  See the tab (page) link above to view the information about the sale to help you create a sign.

12.6.2016 - FBLA Update

Most members received a note during advisory today reminding them about the party and meeting taking place tomorrow.  This was also on the school memo.  Some students did not receive their letter as their 7th period teacher has changed since we began meeting, and I did  not have the updated teacher listed or time to look it up.

Remember, the party and meeting is tomorrow (12/7/2016) during advisory and concluding at 4:00.  Be sure to bring the party items you committed to bring.  I suggested students may want to bring a soda in a bottle or can in case there are not enough drinks.

We will also discuss and/or vote on where to donate funds from the sweatpants sale.  Here is a link to the ballot and where you can submit other charity options.

Party items should be brought to my room before school.  Any items delivered to school during the day will be sent to my room.  Please be sure you put "FBLA" on the item to ensure proper delivery as other events are taking place tomorrow as well.  ~ Mrs. G.

This week's update - 11.30.2016

Below is what I sent to members today (11.30.2016).  Our next official meeting for all members will be Dec. 7th beginning during advisory and ending at 4:00.

Look for a link below where you can open a form and submit your ideas of what charities you want us to support with our sweatpants sale.  COMING SOON!  (I promise.)

FBLA Members,

We will NOT be meeting officially during advisory this weekHowever, ALL of you should stop by my room today or tomorrow to check the list of party items you signed-up to bring for next week’s meeting/party (or sign-up to bring something if you have not already).   This letter should serve as your pass.

Our Christmas party and meeting will be Wednesday, December 7th.  It will begin during advisory and continue after school until 4:00 (not 4:30) to allow for our members with other team commitments after school to participate at least during advisory.

Be sure you ask/remind your parents about the party items BEFORE this weekend.  You must contribute something to eat at the party.  Any individually wrapped unopened items remaining at the end of the party can be saved to use for snacks at future after school meetings.

Items you may consider bringing:  (32 people in the group)

Paper plates, plastic spoons/forks/knives, smaller cups, napkins, sodas or water (cans or plastic bottles – We’re trying to avoid using cups and ice.), salty items (chips & dip, party mix, cheese crackers, etc.), sweet items (brownies, cookies, candy, cupcakes, doughnuts), fruit, etc.

Please check with me if you plan to bring items needing refrigeration or heating.  I will need to make sure we have space available.

I am updating the FBLA blog today and adding a form for you to submit your ideas for where we want to donate the sweatpants money.  We really need to decide this before Christmas break.

See you in class or at the next meeting/party.

Mrs. Graham

Update from our meeting on 11.9.2016

We will meet the week before Thanksgiving break (this week) during advisory.

We will not meet after school the week before Thanksgiving (this week).

Before you attend the meeting this week be sure to speak with your parents about what you/they are willing to contribute to the FBLA Christmas party so you can sign-up when we meet.  If you would like to contribute money to help buy some items instead of bringing in food you might have that as an option.  Some members of the food committee were thinking of asking for small donations to split the cost of a chicken nugget/finger tray or other larger more expensive food items too expensive for one person to bring alone.  Discuss this with your parents.  Mrs. Graham will not be collecting money.  This will be done between students and parents by their own agreements.

Items you may consider bringing:  (32 people in the group)

Paper plates, plastic spoons/forks/knives, smaller cups, napkins, sodas or water (cans or bottles - no cups and ice), salty items (chips & dip, party mix, cheese crackers, etc.), sweet items (brownies, cookies, candy, cupcakes, doughnuts), fruit, etc.

Our Christmas party and meeting will be Wednesday, December 7th after school until 4:00.  We will begin during advisory for those who can’t stay after school for the after school meeting.  We will be signing-up to bring food items at this week’s meeting.  You must contribute something to eat at the party.

You will be advised of other business from 11.9.2016 at the meeting on Wednesday.

See you in class or at the next meeting. ~ Mrs. G.

11.1.2016 - FBLA update

FBLA will not officially be meeting this week as a group.  I have been meeting with small groups (committees) within class or advisory to get ready for the sweatpants sale.  I hope to meet with other groups Thursday and Friday to plan for our next after school meeting, which will be Wednesday of next week (Nov. 9th).  I will try to look ahead for the months of Nov. and Dec. to set-up meeting dates for everybody, so we all can plan our schedules at least a month out.

We will meet after school next Wednesday (11/9) until 4:30 barring any unforeseen emergencies.

Orders for sweatpants have begun to come in.  People on the sales and distribution committees will be needed to record and fill orders.

People on the food committee, please check the post below.

 10.25.2016 - FBLA Update

Stop by my Mrs. Graham's door to verify your committee(s).  Some committees were overloaded by too many people.  Check the list.

If you are on the advertising committee - Please look at the information on the FBLA blog (click the link above) about the sweatpants sale and use it to create your advertisements for the sale.  Please create posters or signs to advertise the sale of the pants.  See me during class or during class changes if you have questions.  We need the signs ASAP, but certainly by the end of this week.

If you are on the clean-up and organization committee - See me about organizing our existing supply of pants while in my class or before school.  We will not do this during advisory.

If you are on the food committee - Please contact members about signing-up to bring some snack items for our next after school meeting.  Please do not bring anything that will need to be refrigerated or reheated.  Individually wrapped or packaged items will be easier for clean-up.  All we really need are some chips and maybe some cookies or candy to provide a light snack during the after school meeting on the 9th.

10.19.2016 - Meeting update

We met during advisory to update all members on the status of proposed projects and committees.  Plans are being made for the annual sweatpants sale.  Committee members will be called upon to help advertise the event.  Clean-up and organization committee will be called upon to count and organize existing pants that remain from last year's sale.  Sweatpants will go on sale next week.

Our next after school meeting will probably be in two weeks.  (Nov. 2nd.)  The members of the food committee will need to organize snacks, plates, and drinks for the meeting.

9.21.2016 - Meeting Notes (what you missed)

We met during advisory to vote for officers.

9.14.2016 - Meeting Notes (what you missed)

  • Attendance - We sign-in at meetings.  Bring a pencil or pen.
  • Phone use during meetings - After school it is okay to have your phone out to see if your parents try to contact you about picking you up.  But, you should not be photographing, texting, or otherwise playing on your phone during the meeting.  We do not post anything from the meeting on social media.
  • ***Important**
Last call for people wanting to run for an FBLA officer position.  Be sure to complete your speech using the form on the blog.  The leadership members will possibly attend a leadership convention in October.  [Hudson D. needs to see me about her speech.  I don't have it.  All I have is her name.]
  • We will probably meet next week to vote on officers.  We will try to meet during advisory period, but it depends on whether or not Mrs. Graham is needed to help the publications group.  Be sure to listen to the memo and check the FBLA blog for announcements about FBLA meetings.
  • Permission forms and dues - The deadline to turn these items in is this Friday.  See Mrs. Graham if there is a problem.
  • We watched videos about parliamentary procedure.  See the "guidelines" page for links to the videos.  We watched the 1st one and the third one.  Then, we did some role playing to practice how making a motion and an amendment works.
  • We discussed the possibility of upcoming competitive events.  Mrs. Graham will share more about this later.
  • Members played business simulation games for the remainder of the time while others completed their campaign speech for the office of their choice.
  • The meeting adjourned at 4:30.  Remember to have your parents pick-up up down by the gym at the end of the bus canopy so I can see that you are safely picked-up before leaving for the day.  I can't see you at the front of the schoo
