September 11 Announcements

All SGA election posters should be removed from hallways by 3 pm today.

If you paid for an SGA class t-shirt and have not yet received it, please go to A-17 during advisory today.

7th graders interested in going on the Washington DC trip (Thursday, February 13 – Monday, February 17, 2020) need to complete the Google Form.  https://forms.gle/j5BiuBSdgC1g8QsXA     If you missed the Interest Meeting on August 27th, visit the OMMS DC blog for Guidelines and Tentative Itinerary that we reviewed at the meeting.   https://podcasts.shelbyed.k12.al.us/omms- dctrip/  There are a limited number of spots available and priority is given to the order when we receive the initial deposit.

SGA Officers and Peer Mediators attending tomorrow’s leadership conference are reminded to meet outside Mrs. Acton’s door at 8 am tomorrow and should be “dressed for success.”

Fall pictures are today during PE classes in the gym!

The signup sheet for Debate Team tryouts is now posted outside Mrs. Taylor’s door, B-14. The last day to sign up is September 13th, and tryouts will be held on September 19th.

Scholars Bowl tryouts for all grades, 6th, 7th, and 8th will be Tuesday, September 17th at 3:00 pm in the media center.  Parents should pick up their child outside the B-West doors at 3:45.   

Need a red pen?  Lost your yellow highlighter?  Can’t find your pencil sharpener?  The PTO will be hosting a WHAT DO YOU NEED WEDNESDAY supply sale during lunch today.  The  plan is to host these sales once a month to give you a chance to purchase any supplies that you need.  Items range from $1 to $3 so remember to bring your cash with you to lunch   today.

Eagle Ambassadors should plan to meet Friday morning 9/13 in D-5 at 7:20 am.

SGA officers are requested to go to Mrs. Higginbotham’s room during advisory today.  They should show their pass to their advisory teacher before going to A-17.

Please remember absent excuses, including doctor notes and parent notes, must be received within three (3) days of the student’s return to school to be considered excused.  Any note   received after three (3) days is considered unexcused.  Also, this year Shelby County Board of Education lowered the number of non-doctor documented and court document absences   to ten (10) per school year.  This number includes all parent note sick, parent note unexcused, and principal permission days. Any days above the 10 not documented by a doctor or a   court   will be coded as unexcused.

EAGLE SPORTS NEWS

Volleyball girls need to report to Coach Gunnels’ room after the bell today. 

Girls who want to try-out for basketball need to see Coach Noel & Coach Dillard in the gym.  Try-outs will be October 7-10th. 7th grade from 3-5pm; 8th 5-7th.  

Oak Mountain Middle School boys’ basketball tryouts for the 2019-2020 season will be held October 4-6 at OMMS. If interested, students MUST sign up with Coach Binkley during P.E. In order for students to be able to participate in tryouts, they MUST have an updated physical and all information on Dragonfly updated. If you have any questions please contact Coach Binkley via email @ rbinkley@shelbyed.org. Tryout times are listed below. Please note that students must be at all three tryouts unless otherwise approved by the coaching staff.  Tryouts dates are: Friday: October 4th, 2019 7th:  5:15- 7:15 am, 8th: 3:15-5:30 pm, Saturday: October 5th, 2019 7th: 4:00-6:00 pm, 8th: 6:00-8:00 pm, Sunday: October 6th, 2019 7th: 2:00-4:00 pm, 8th: 4:00-6:00 pm.

Any 7th or 8th grade student interested in being on the 2020 golf team should sign up using the following link: https://forms.gle/U6FrCoq33YoFmQQc8. Students must complete all AHSAA eligibility via DragonFly Max (instructions for DragonFly Max can be found on the OMMS listsrv and in the daily announcements on the OMMS website). Students should be able to score at least a 59 or below on 9 holes to qualify for the golf team.
