October 20th Announcements

Canned Food Drive Collection Underway
The OMMS Phase I Community Service Group’s annual canned food drive to benefit Oak Mountain Mission will run October 18-26.  All canned and non-perishable items are appreciated, but primary needs include canned vegetables and fruits, peanut butter, jelly, and boxed macaroni and cheese. So far the top winners for each grade level are as follows:  6th Carter -38; 7th Alaimo- 25; 8th Tie for Acton and Holmes with 20.  Please bring in as many items as possible. Can your class win the pizza party?

Basketball Teams Aim to Promote School Spirit                                                       

Seventh and Eighth grade boys basketball will host the Homewood Patriots for their first home game on Thursday, November 4th.  Our theme will be WHITE OUT!  All spectators are encouraged to “White Out” the gym with as many white shirts as possible.  Interested students or parents may order an OM basketball white out t-shirt by this Friday, October 22nd. Sign up for OMMS Boys and Girls Tennis Teams

Students interested in trying out for the 2021-22 OMMS Tennis Team, signups are now through Oct. 22. Please follow the link below to sign up. All paperwork must be 100% complete in DragonflyMax by Oct. 22 to be able to participate in tryouts. Registration is now open for the OM Boys Rec Basketball League. The league is open to all 2nd-6th grader boys residing in the Oak Mountain area. Cost is $130/player and there will be 60 spots for each age group (2-4 and 5-6). Player Evaluations are tentative for 10/24. Please follow our Facebook page for updates.

Winter Guard Clinic Begins Today  

Winter Guard clinic begins today at Oak Mountain High School in the cafeteria from 3:30-5:45. You must provide your own transportation. Any student who has not turned in the permission slip, consent form, physical, and $20 clinic fee must turn them in before the clinic begins to be able to participate.

Robotics Team Seeks New Competitors
The window is still open for students interested in signing up for OMMS’s national and world renown Robotics Team.  Students interested in joining the team must complete the interest survey by October 15.  Once it is determined how many students are interested in competing, Mrs. Whitehead will schedule a tryout and a parent meeting.  For those who have questions, please email Mrs. Whitehead at swhitehead@shelbyed.org.  The link to the interest survey is as follows:   https://forms.gle/Xv8iqxAPVkV2wErv8

Spirit Day TomorrowTomorrow we will be on an afternoon pep rally schedule in order to take a student, faculty, and staff photo on the football field during advisory.  In addition, tomorrow will be a Red, White, and Blue Spirit Day with each grade level wearing the following colors:    Eighth Grade — Red; Seventh Grade — White; and Sixth Grade — Blue.

Robotics Team Seeks New Competitors

Canned Food Drive Begins October 18

The OMMS Phase I Community Service Group’s annual canned food drive to benefit Oak Mountain Mission will run October 18-22.  All canned and non-perishable items are appreciated, but primary needs include canned vegetables and fruits, peanut butter, jelly, and boxed macaroni and cheese.

Signup Period Continues for Winter Guard Tryouts                                                    

7th & 8th graders: Winter Guard clinics and tryouts are next week, October 18th-21st, at Oak Mountain High School in the cafeteria from 3:30-5:45. You must provide your own transportation to the high school. If you are trying out and have not turned in your paperwork and paid the clinic fee on MySchoolBucks, you need to do that as soon as possible. Come by Ms. Marzullo’s room in G-6 to grab a packet if you have not already. All paperwork and fees must be turned in before October 18th. Basketball Teams Aim to Promote School Spirit                                                        

Seventh and Eighth grade boys basketball will host the Homewood Patriots for their first home game on Thursday, November 4th.  Our theme will be WHITE OUT!  All spectators are encouraged to “White Out” the gym with as many white shirts as possible.  Interested students may order an OM basketball white out t-shirt.
