February 15th Announcements

2021-2022 Yearbooks are for sale:  Go to balfour.com/yearbooks and search for Oak Mountain Middle School.  They are $45.

Physical Day:  We are excited to be able to participate in Physical Day this year on February 25th at OMHS. A physical is required for any student who wishes to participate on an athletic team and must be completed annually. Please see the attachment for additional information and requirements. 

8th Grade Parents! The yearbook staff is working on a very special memories page for the yearbook. In order to complete the page, we need your 8th grader’s baby picture as soon as possible! If you would like to share a baby photo of your child, please send it to our yearbook co-sponsor, Scott McIndoe at smcindoe@shelbyed.org. Be sure to include your student’s name with the photo.Please be sure to send a photo by February 28th! We are super excited about this and can’t wait to show you the final result! Thanks so much for your support!

Cheer tryout packets were distributed for all girls who signed up. Please look through packets and start completing all DragonFly documents. Deadline for all DragonFly forms, including a new physical, is Friday, March 4th. No exceptions! Paper forms found in packet must be signed and returned to Coach Chartrand in D-5 by Friday, March 4th.

Phase I will meet on February 22nd until 4:15 and students should bring 3  hygiene items that we will use to create hygiene bags for Vineyard Family Services. 

Coding Club students will meet Wednesday, February 16th in Mrs. Carter’s room D2, from 3 – 4:30 pm. Check your email for reminders.

Are you interested in being a part of the OMMS Book Olympiad team this spring? Even though there will not be a county competition, the OMMS team will read and discuss several books and participate in fun activities after school based on the books. The Oak Mountain Color Run will be on Saturday, March 5th at Oak Mountain State Park. Proceeds from this event will be given to the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB for cancer research. For more information and to register, visit the SGA Color Run website, COLOR RUN 2022 . 

The interest meeting for the 2022-2023 OMHS Visual Ensemble will be held on Thursday, February 24th at 6:00pm in the OMHS Band Room. Anyone interested in trying out for high school Color Guard, Dance Team, or Majorettes, or for middle school Winter Guard or JV Majorettes needs to attend with a parent. Mandatory tryout clinics will be April 4th-6th from 3:30-6:45 and tryouts will be held on Thursday, April 7th beginning at 3:30pm. JUNA will meet today after school until 4:30pm.  

6th grade math team practice is canceled for this afternoon.  

Students that signed up for cheerleading tryouts need to meet with Coach Chartrand and Coach Givan during advisory today.  Check in with your advisory teacher and then report to the cafeteria.

Candy Grams:  The SGA will sell Candy Grams by grade level this week during advisory on the following days:  8th Grade – Thursday, Feb. 10th.  Send some love to a friend, a teacher, or yourself.  $1 each.  Candy Grams will be delivered during advisory the day after the purchase.
