Local scholarships are specific to Shelby County High School and are only available for SCHS Seniors. Each scholarship has its own criteria and students can apply for any and all they are eligible for. All applications are due to the SCHS Counseling Office NO LATER THAN April 27th.

Psi Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc Scholarship

The members of the Psi Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are pleased to announce the availability of (3) $1,000 scholarships to college-bound African-American students one of which will be awarded to a senior planning to enroll in a HBCU fall of the 2018 academic year.

 Scholarship Requirements:

  • College-bound African-American students
  • 3.0 GPA (an official HS transcript included with the application)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Essay

Jefferson State Community College Full Tuition Academic Scholarship

JSCC will award 35 full tuition scholarships to outstanding high school students enrolling in Fall 2018. These are one year scholarships which may be renewed for one additional year provided the recipient meets the criteria. These students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the end of their first semester of the senior year and a minimum of 22 on the ACT. The student must be a U.S. citizen or provide proper documented residency status.

Students may visit http://www.jeffersonstate.edu/financial-aid/scholarships/ to obtain a 2018-2019 High School Academic Scholarship application. A completed application packet should include, a scholarship application, a recommendation letter, a two-page essay discussing “Why the student wants to attend Jefferson State Community College” and a copy of the high school transcript and should be submitted to the financial aid office no later than March 1, 2018.

Scholarships for Hispanic Students

Financial need should never limit a student’s ambitions.
Founded in 1975, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) empowers Latino families with the knowledge and resources to successfully complete higher education, while providing scholarships and support services to as many exceptional Hispanic American students as possible.
As the nation’s largest not-for-profit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, HSF has awarded more than $550 million in scholarships and provides a range of impactful programs for students, HSF scholars, alumni, and parents.
The application opens January 1, 2018, and closes March 31, 2018. Scholarship recipients will be selected in June 2018. For more information visit hsf.net.

ALET Scholarship

Alabama Leaders of Educational Technology (ALET) announces a $10,000 scholarship will be awarded to a public high school senior enrolled in a school system with a delegate member in this organization.  Seeking graduating seniors with a record of volunteerism in the community in both non-school sponsored and extracurricular school activities.  The recipient must attend an accredited college/university or technical school located in the state of Alabama.

Criteria for Scholarship Applicant: 

*    Minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.75 and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year accredited college/university or technical school pursuing a degree in IT or related field

*    Application must be accompanied by an essay (guidelines listed under item 11 of the application)

*    One page resume’ (attachments are allowed for activities, honors and service)

*    Two letters of recommendation as to your character and your ability to meet your scholastic and community responsibilities – one must be from principal and/or counselor

*    Applicant must have the endorsement/signature of their Guidance Counselor/Principal on their application attesting they are a qualified applicant for this scholarship program

*    Application deadline is November 17, 2017 by 4:00 p.m.  Late applications are not accepted.
